To be fed up of Instamums

Hmmmmx100 · 25/08/2017 22:56

I followed a few of the more well-known Instamums but got weary of the constant daily barrage of brand endorsements. I can't relate to people on £100k a year in Farrow & Ball houses. I just can't. So I had to unfollow em all, every one. AIBU to feel a bit miffed that these people are using the idea of sisterhood to make money? They're not our friends, they're just there to sell us stuff that we probably don't need anyway.

I can't bring myself to look at their stories again to check Phillipe...

That FOD looks a right bellend. Thinks he's god's gift, what a nob.

chickaleta · 31/08/2017 22:20

Hmmmmx1000 that actually makes me want to weep tears of despair

Hmmmmx100 · 31/08/2017 22:23

I would like to retitle 'social influencer' to 'freebie blagger'

It just boils my piss to see such rich people getting so much for nothing. You cannot convince me that @ing a brand in an Instagram story is work. It's not. And why should these people get so much stuff for so little when they can actually afford the things they tout? A Miele combo would never be delivered to any of the 400 or so mothers that live on the huge council estate near my house. And they actually need white goods that work/don't explode.

Thank you marceline and bookworm
She's a beauty isn't she. I don't know how we've made it to a decade! Have got ten years of retrospective blogging to do!

Those watches! I wondered why everyone had them on, what is that all about? Are they expensive?
The narcissistic instas make me squirm. I took a few selfies for my personal insta and felt cringey and vain, it's not for me, I've never been superficial. The family ones aren't as bad but being a teenager these days must be horrible.

There are kids in secondary schools across London that have never even been to the beach. Whereas kids of SOCIAL INFLUENCERS get free beach holidays 4/5/6 times A YEAR.

I have to admit I hadn't heard of FOD or Mod until a few weeks ago but it is very commercialised. But heyho let them be and I might keep following cause I'm a nosey bitch!

My Instagram feed is mostly my DDs. I could never have an interiors one. My house resembles an explosion in a toys r us most of the time. The only tidy place is the garden Blush

I can't be bothered to reread the whole post but why can the twee family not be named?

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 31/08/2017 22:33

Oh is the above mentioned The Blogger Who Shall Not Be Named? The one who gets threads she doesn't like pulled?

Hadn't realised she had an IG. Off to check it out for the lolz.

Hmmmmx100 · 31/08/2017 22:33

There's this line: they're making money for themselves and their families, they're not actually murdering anyone so it can't be that bad, people should make good of any opportunity that arises

And the this line: Earn your money by all means but have a mind for those in the majority with less than you, use your influence for the greater good, be humble, be charitable.

I know which line I take.

The reason they are successful is because dumb people and bots folllow them. I know there are people that follow them for the craic but at the end of the day these people would be nothing without their flock followers.

ginteresting · 31/08/2017 22:35

I quite like Mod and Fod, I don't think they show their true life, Its mindless and superficial but it's nice and sometimes I just like seeing nice shiny things. Much rather see their posts than crap on Facebook about people posting about their real life dramas, or out of focus photos that makes me cringe to the core. Mumsnet is escapism for a lot of people too! Il show myself out

nothingontelly · 31/08/2017 22:36

I know someone who does this who isn't famous and isn't getting paid to endorse products! Complete with 100 pointless hashtags. #instashit

Hmmmmx100 · 31/08/2017 22:40

I actually think that Susie Verrill, now we're naming names, has a decent balance of reality/promotion on her page. Yes she is clearly running a commercially driven account but it's not grabby or flashy. She's honest about ads. And it's not all ads either. You get the impression that many of her posts are fuelled by genuine pride and love, rather than being purely financially driven.

I also recall Susie mentioning once in a story that she gives away a lot of her freebies to charity shops, just in passing, not in a 'look at me, I'm ace' way, which I thought was classy of her.

Must admit DH and I spent a few hours pissing ourselves at hunters and heels bedtime routine.

Actually pissing. Lol

BuzzKillington · 31/08/2017 22:45

Not much of an instagrammer - but that midwife with the odd husband makes me irrational.

HeyRoly · 31/08/2017 22:46

I hope the Unmumsy Mum doesn't sell out. I enjoy her on social media, and the whiny post on Instagram about why she wishes she wasn't so principled kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.

I mean, I get it. Who wouldn't want money and free shit for posting on social media? We all have bills to pay. But I personally avoid glossy/saccharine/smug/commercialised Instamums like the plague, so I'd prefer it if she didn't join them.
