To be fed up of Instamums

I followed a few of the more well-known Instamums but got weary of the constant daily barrage of brand endorsements. I can't relate to people on £100k a year in Farrow & Ball houses. I just can't. So I had to unfollow em all, every one. AIBU to feel a bit miffed that these people are using the idea of sisterhood to make money? They're not our friends, they're just there to sell us stuff that we probably don't need anyway.

FOD and MODs videos about the video not uploading are even more cringe because it's clearly a video they're being paid to upload! 'It was supposed to be on at 8pm'

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 31/08/2017 10:02

Yes FoD was genuinely angry, not light hearted at all.

Mothervulva · 31/08/2017 10:05

Where are MoD's videos?

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 31/08/2017 10:06

Instastories

Fairylea · 31/08/2017 10:08

On FoDs comments someone has said he was so upset about it not uploading because it's an ad and he's replied that he was just upset that it's taken him hours to make an interesting video etc Hmm Grin

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 31/08/2017 10:11

Oh he's talking bollocksGrin.

Only 700,000 followers? get that in Simon , remind everyone you're popular.

Fairylea · 31/08/2017 10:16

He needs another £5k to get to that 700k WinkGrin oh it's all silly really. I don't think they're bad people, just a bit money hungry but who can blame them really. It's just all so transparent.

Fairylea · 31/08/2017 10:16

5k not £5k although maybe some sort of Freudian slip there!

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 31/08/2017 10:19

I agree Fairy.

Dozyoldtwonk · 31/08/2017 10:43

As a pp said, I think perhaps the constant stream of adoration in the likes, comments and general interest in them can and does get addictive. But surely they must always have to be 'on', thinking about their next Instagram photo 'set-up', the text to go with it, getting the angle right and all that important stuff. Meh. Too much like hard work - particularly if they have day jobs too (which I think in the case of FOD & MOD, they do). Even with the paid help, that's a lot to be constantly thinking about.

finderkeeper · 31/08/2017 10:54

I like some of the much smaller ones.

WilliowGreen · 31/08/2017 11:17

The midwife's blog was lovely but her instagram is just pictures of her on holiday. In one of her pictures she is posing outside the home of a family member (in Cornwall). I saw it and thought that their house! Why is she taking a photo of her kids outside it. Since then it has popped in again in my instagram feed. My relatives should start charging people money.

toddlepip · 31/08/2017 11:31

I've got a few followers on Insta.

I live pretty remotely and like seeing what people in Britain are up to and how my life could have been so different. And I think the people that follow me in Britain find my feed interesting. Which in turn makes my life feel a little less shit sometimes. Grin

It's some gratuitous cycle of envy/admiration/thank god that's not my life.

The instamums that grate on me a little are usually the ones who gingham filter the shit out o everything and generally have 🌿 in their name somewhere. Grin

TheLegendOfBeans · 31/08/2017 12:26

I would truly and honestly love to know how FoD balances both the InstaEmpire and the day job.

If - and I could be wrong here - he works for a consultancy OR an investment bank then from personal experience I know that WORK IS ALL. It's hard enough to balance a small family life with minimal extra responsibilities never mind four kids, several holidays, and his and MoDs InstaEmpire.

I'm also fascinated by any potential conflicts of interest; that popped into my mind when they did an online ad for a family computer system.

If consultancy X provides a service to company Y and it's staff are promoting company Z online, that's CoI right there, no?

I have far too much time on my hands x

FunkinEll · 31/08/2017 12:28

I think said Dad is on a career break. He was at one point anyway.....

sacchetto · 31/08/2017 12:38

OMG the nit ad!

Mothervulva · 31/08/2017 12:51

Thanks classy, still finding Instagram tricky. Guess that's why I'm not an 'instamom'. That and the fact no one would be interested in pictures of my kids watching CBeebies.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 31/08/2017 14:18

Is FoD on a career break?, that might explain how he manages all the holidays.

Mother hours can be lost browsing Instagram, I remember when Insta was just pictures of faraway destinations, ,beautiful scenery etc, very little dialogue and writing underneath the squares. It's got to be the biggest platform of them all now.

papayasareyum · 31/08/2017 14:22

Mod, what's her name on instagram? I can't find her

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 31/08/2017 14:29

Very interesting to see MOD criticising Johnsons on her stories today. That's big brand and she doesn't seem bothered about burning that bridge. A nice flash of integrity.

Mothervulva · 31/08/2017 14:30

Pap, search for Mother of Daughter's and her name is Clemmie.

BumFlapBob · 31/08/2017 14:32

It's fashionable amongst the instamum brigade to be into all natural organic stuff.

Runningyogabooze · 31/08/2017 14:33

Toddlepip what's your Insta name? I'd love to follow you!

My favourite Insta people are those who lead totally different lives to me - Australian farmers' wives in the outback, a woman on Orkney, a pilot, etc.

Caprianna · 31/08/2017 14:35

Running can you give me any ideas of interesting people to follow ? I have a really boring Insta feedSad

Mothervulva · 31/08/2017 14:35

Who is the woman in Orkney? Sounds interesting?
