To be fed up of Instamums

Hmmmmx100 · 25/08/2017 22:56

I followed a few of the more well-known Instamums but got weary of the constant daily barrage of brand endorsements. I can't relate to people on £100k a year in Farrow & Ball houses. I just can't. So I had to unfollow em all, every one. AIBU to feel a bit miffed that these people are using the idea of sisterhood to make money? They're not our friends, they're just there to sell us stuff that we probably don't need anyway.

Picking up your phone and just filming yourself doing something and sharing it with strangers is just absurd really isn't it?? I was just looking at the midwife story and she is talking into her phone and fod is having instagram hassles and it just struck me as so bizarre and intrusive to normal life it is to be filming and sharing the whole time. They must feel live in two parallel universes the whole time: online and offline. I can't imagine it.

Delatron · 30/08/2017 22:24

It's the world we live in though, many of them get paid a fortune for a job they've created out of nothing so I kind of think 'good for them'.
If you don't like them don't follow them.
I like Does my bum, she's nutty but funny and clearly a good journalist.
ChloeLovesToShop is a bit perfect but I have warmed to her and you can't berate someone for being attractive. Like TheFrugality and PinkHouseLiving (more interiors but she's very funny).
I like seeing in to their lives, they hit the shops and film it, saves me doing it. They're a source of fashion inspiration..

Don't quite get the hatred. Any annoying ones I just don't follow...

Dozyoldtwonk · 30/08/2017 22:55

MOD has now taken to advertising nit combs, on behalf of Boots Confused

I read her blog whilst pregnant with both DCs and some of her content was so original and inspiring, particularly the birth stories she featured. I feel she is really selling out now and moving far, far away from her midwife roots which is sad when it's such a privileged profession (IMHO) and she could really be doing more to promote positive birth experiences and so on.

BlueIsYou · 30/08/2017 23:21

Not sure she qualifies as an 'instanummy' but there's an Insta lady who, of course very sadly, lost her infant son a while back.

She doesn't stop sharing freebies and I had to unfollow her when she kept on complaining about Mr Shouty every bloody day!

The man seems working class and just going about his business, all whilst she insta stories him working after a spot of posh pub lunch and chilling with her pug.

I really quite like the home that made me, although she seems too cool for me Grin And I never quite understand how she managed to have candles at lower eye level with two small children about!

ElspethFlashman · 30/08/2017 23:38

Doesmybumlook40 seems to be having a bit of a shit time at the moment. I'm glad that she finds Instagram a place of support. I guess it's good for that, for feeling you're not alone. I quite wanted to give her a hug today, tbh.

MakeItStopNeville · 30/08/2017 23:39

I guess the reason they do it is because it's very addictive receiving lots of likes and positive comments. MoD and DoD are crazy exposing their kids to this level, imo, but they're not my kids and it's not my business. I just don't follow them anymore.

They remind me a little of YoungHouseLove (a US diy blog), whose kids couldn't fart without it getting a mention at one point, to the detriment of the actual diy part. Then they suddenly quit altogether (apparently after a couple of scary real life encounters) and are now back only talking about DIY and never show their kids. But then, without the kids, DoD's instagram would be non existant!

I hate follow a few of the previously mentioned instagrammers but I do genuinely find the flex appeal one funny and her baby is cute! There's no way I'd buy her book though or the midewife's! I find her quite unpleasant but I flicked through her book at work and it was absolute garbage.

timeisnotaline · 31/08/2017 00:59

Bit of a shame I've got to page 12 and maybe one person has bothered to say that whatever you think of flex appeal woman, it is great to see someone unashamedly supporting it, when many of us could do with more flexible working.

absolutelynoway · 31/08/2017 06:30

Yeah, time, it's great. It's just a crying shame that the main company associated with the campaign are utterly inflexible to work for...

Whoknowsbest1 · 31/08/2017 07:30

I don't know much about the flex appeal but obviously it's a laudable idea & working life should be more a lot more flexible. However is it just a thing on social media or real life too?

WipsGlitter · 31/08/2017 07:31

Who wants s the flex appeal one?

A lot of the houses are very similar - muted tones, tasteful peonies, etc etc!!

MoonPower · 31/08/2017 07:35

Turn your Instagram off.
Don't worry about them.
Get on with your life Hmm

Whoknowsbest1 · 31/08/2017 07:46

Is anyone actually influenced to buy something? I always wonder that with fashion bloggers. I get that an 18 yr old might be very influenced by Kylie Jenner but a 30 year old?

Delatron · 31/08/2017 07:52

Their influence is huge, hence the courting by all the fashion brands. Quite often they'll link to something on a post and it gets sold out very quickly. Brands can track this back to the post.. It's a whole new way of marketing and advertising.

ElspethFlashman · 31/08/2017 07:58

Yes, I am occasionally. I say occasionally cos I have a hefty amount of impulse control and rarely spontaneously buy anything. But Esther Coren got a moon and stars necklace last week and fuck me I WANT IT. I've put it on a notepad list and if I still dream about it at Christmas I'll buy it for myself.

Whoknowsbest1 · 31/08/2017 08:00

I personally think a lot of it is smoke & mirrors. You have some users with 100k followers but their posts get maybe 300 likes & 10 comments. I reckon there is a lot of bots.

However if Kate Middleton can wear a dress that goes onto to sell out no matter if it's nice or not I can see how just getting the exposure on insta would help brands shift products.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 31/08/2017 08:02

FoD was very pissed and irate off last night because his video wouldn't load , must have been the Nits ad.

ibuiltahomeforyou · 31/08/2017 08:03

I've unfollowed both MoD and FoD, the nits were the last straw! Grin

coffeecow · 31/08/2017 08:03

I followed and eventually unfollowed quite a few of these. I recently followed mrs meldrum and she posts so often it must be akin to a full time job! But nearly all her posts feel like ads to me even though they don't explicitly say so.

WipsGlitter · 31/08/2017 08:11

Oh I unfollowed Mrs Meldrum I found her real annoying for some reason!! She came across as such a princess. Although I see she's had a really tough time recently with her third daughter being born.

Also that nit comb MOD is using is crap. Nitty gritty all the way!!

langkaw · 31/08/2017 08:22

Oh the nit advert! They are slowly morphing into this family:

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 31/08/2017 08:26

Mrs meldrum....and mr.... are now both full time youtubers! He actually gave up a good oil rig job to do this full time

So it must pay well

Fairylea · 31/08/2017 08:29

I do wonder what the girls, particularly the eldest one, think of having their heads "de nitted" on instagram. I know my dd would've been so embarrassed - she would have absolutely hated any of her friends seeing something like that.

ElizabethLemon · 31/08/2017 09:12

Hahaha the nits ad, oh lord.

Pappawasarollingbone · 31/08/2017 09:30

Nits.... Give me strength.
Amazing how many people reply with helpful suggestions not figuring out they are adverts.
It's an AD they don't want your nit advice!
