Gilmore Girls - Dean

Got my dn to start watching Gilmore Girls so we've been chatting about it.

This has probably been done to death but isn't Dean just an awful, horrible character?

He's possessive, jealous, moody, emotionally black-mailing Rory constantly...

And everyone loves him and panders to him.

In one episode he phones over 20 times in like two hours! And Lorelei encourages Rory to put up with that and even pander to it!!

It actually makes for pretty horrible viewing and I have told impressionable 16 year old niece that she should run very, very far from a boy like that!

Anyway, AIBU?

*Disclaimer: I'm aware there are far more faults with the show. I am also aware that it is entirely fictional, and that I have no life!

Yanbu.

Dean is a horrible character. His emotionally abusive to Rory, basically stalks her several times and makes her think she'll never do any better than him.

I've never understood why the rest of the town liked him, apart from luke of course, the only one not fooled by deans shiny hair.

I love a gilmore girl thread.Grin

Yes! Luke is the only one with a bit of sense.

I was always quite partial to Logan. I'm ignoring the Netflix series

All of her boyfriends were emotionally absusive swine. Even Paul!

Dean also had unfortunate hair and a collection of terrible leather jackets.
Rory treated him like shit with the whole Jess thing.

Rory didn't cover herself in glory but I really don't blame her! He was suffocating her!!!

And they were just kids, which made it worse!

And, while I'm ranting, Lorelei was quite horrible to a lot of people! I love her but she was soooo self-involved.

I always loved Jess. Logan was ok but I think he brought out the worst in Rory. Grown up jess was the perfect match for her.

I know. I feel embarrassed at how much I used to like it considering how awful Lorelai was.

I'm not keen on Rory or Lorelai, they're both people I'd hate in RL. I mainly watch gilmore girls for luke and the weird town folk. Grin

Grown up Jess was much better. I loved how he called her out on her shit when she dropped out of Yale.

Which reminds me...the way they all act like she's permanently 8 really bugs me! She's quite the spoiled brat, actually.

Jess was my favourite too. Dean was horrible to his wife, cheating on her with Rory, who was a complete brat.

Logan was very pretty, though. And I do think he grew to really love her, more than she loved him.

I'm very pleased she didn't just give everything up to marry him.

Dean had literally NO redeeming features. None.

I think that Luke is also pretty horrendous. I know that he does a lot for other people, but the amount that he shouts at people must make him awful to be around - plus, it would give me a headache.

The only thing that annoyed me about Luke is when he extended the apartment for Jess, he kept it open plan!

Do we all agree the series lost it in season seven thanks to the creators fall out - or was it before then? Rory became increasingly.

TG for Sukie and Paris! Although there could have been less pregnancies!
