Gilmore Girls - Dean

Got my dn to start watching Gilmore Girls so we've been chatting about it.

This has probably been done to death but isn't Dean just an awful, horrible character?

He's possessive, jealous, moody, emotionally black-mailing Rory constantly...

And everyone loves him and panders to him.

In one episode he phones over 20 times in like two hours! And Lorelei encourages Rory to put up with that and even pander to it!!

It actually makes for pretty horrible viewing and I have told impressionable 16 year old niece that she should run very, very far from a boy like that!

Anyway, AIBU?

*Disclaimer: I'm aware there are far more faults with the show. I am also aware that it is entirely fictional, and that I have no life!

I always found jess creepy and borderline stalkerish. Best moment of GG for me is when Luke pushed Jess into the lake. Brilliant timing - v v funny.

I also really love Lorelai's clothes (wish I had her figure) but as a character she is very bratty and Rory seems spoilt. Emily and Richard are the best (esp as she was in dirty dancing - big plus) and I love all the stars hollow residents. I wish Lane had gone on to be a professor or something though.

Dean is Mr Bland. No idea what Rory saw in him.

AIBU to think that Lorelai and Rory's diet is unrealistic for their figures?

Their diet!!! Absolute tosh! As if they'd be that size with the shite they eat!

I was really gutted about Paris and Doyle in the new series. Such a shame.

And YY to Lane. What a waste!

What did people like about Logan? What did I not see in him?

The actor that plays Dean though... Jared Padalecki is the nicest celeb I have ever met by far. Lovely guy :)

Rory and Lorelai's diets were unrealistic - though going my what we actually saw they actualy ate nothing the food was always left behind. Always silly though wasn't it 'we eat junk yet are effortlessly slim with fab skin.

plus the financial side - lifestyle v declared poverty didn't fit

Yes, Lorelai's complaining about being poor would have been more tolerable if she didn't buy takeaways for every meal then find it all in the fridge a few days later and have to throw it all out.

Rory was so spoilt and pandered over for no good reason. I read that her situation in the new series was a product of that. She was told all through her formative years how great she was, so she just assumed she would always succeed professionally and romantically.

What did people like about Logan? What did I not see in him?

I'm not sure, tbh. He's easy on the eye and I liked the Life & Death Brigade stuff!

Lionso you met him?! He seems like he'd be nice alright!

He has a glint. He wasn't as childish as Dean or Jess. He was very much her equal

I completely agree that Dean was awful, the whole 50s wife scenes when they were kitten-sitting for Babette made me cringe.

I don't get why Emily and Richard are popular, I think they were awful. The way they interfered with Lorelai and Luke'/ relationship, undermined Lorelai when it came to Rory. They would have anyone running to the stately homes threads.

I do love Paris, Lane and all the town's residents though. Not getting Logan at all (although I'm only up to season 5 so he may develop further) but currently he's a self-centred, arrogant arse.

I did meet him Madmags. He goes to the Supernatural cons with his fellow cast members. I was lucky enough to go to a small event where you could chat to him for ages with just a few fans, and he is a pretty down to earth guy. I could go on about him but don't want to hijack thread sorry :)

I agree that Logan was more her equal. Plus, he never outright abused her the way the other two did!

Dean was controlling, manipulative and had a nasty temper.

Jess was a total mind-fuck and was very rapey.

Logan was the best of a bad bunch!

Also, at this late stage, I'd like to throw in what a complete twat Christopher was!

I know it's well known that Lorelai didn't get on with Luke in RL, but apparently she didn't get on that well with Rory either.

I wonder if the actor who played Jess knew when it was going to happen. I keep looking at his reaction falling in and it looks totally spontaneous!

I don't think I could cope with meeting Jared Padalecki as I am a little bit madly in love with him It's always nice to know when people you admire on screen are nice IRL though.

Agree his character in Supernatural is 100x better than creepy Dean! He makes a better Sam than Dean

Another thing! Lorelei is actually a right cow when Emily and Richard agree to pay for Yale.

I really don't like her.

I thought Lorelei was the best mum when I was a kid but rewatching now I absolutely hate her. She's awful!

Dean is also super creepy and cringey.
