Kursk - I thought being off grid mento keeping away from social media and generally the internet too.

Fekko · 15/08/2017 19:09

Mento? My spellcheck is going mad!

BiglyBadgers · 15/08/2017 19:09

So as long as your alright that's fine. You think because you are lucky enough to be in a position to live without these things everyone who isn't can just stuff it? Not everyone can live "off grid" (which you are clearly not as you are on the internet as we speak, so relying on services and innovation supported by government funding), some people have complex health needs for example. The fact that you either fail to imagine this or think it is acceptable to just ignore these people's needs demonstrates a self obsession and selfishness I can never and will never understand.

Yes there were taxes before the 16th Amendment.

Maybe I am😊 Either way politicians will do what they do.

If the country descends into civil war I stay out in the woods and let them get on with it 😊

I guess I was born 200 years to late. I would love a homestead a couple days travel from civilization where government and society didn't reach, where my family and I could just enjoy life.

catgirl1976 · 15/08/2017 19:19

Yeah, it would be nice to live on a homestead where nothing affected you.

But what's happening affects other people, you must care about that surely?

(And if it gets really bad it will affect you too - no matter how off grid you are)

BiglyBadgers · 15/08/2017 19:21

With a child mortality rate of over 40% (yup, almost half your children would have died), no car, no antibiotics, no police, no fire brigade, nowhere to get food in the event of drought or blight, oh and no internet. Just to name a few things that might not be so rose tinted in reality.

The idea you live without any support from the Government or benefit from any Government actions is laughable.

orlantina · 15/08/2017 19:23

I talked about the Star Wars saga and the rise of Trump.

There's a quote from Rogue One. It's with Jyn Erso - someone who just wants to get by without getting involved.

Saw Gerrera: You can stand to see the Imperial flag reign across the galaxy?
Jyn Erso: It's not a problem if you don't look up.

Sometime you've got to look up, see the problem and resist.

Kursk · 15/08/2017 19:24

Yes I do care,

Yes in the event that it gets really bad and it starts to involve us DH and I have discussed what will happen if it gets really bad and we have made preparations to defend our property.

badbadhusky · 15/08/2017 19:26

I'd just want it noted that the thread has taken a weird turn. I'm trying work out whether it's a derail or whether I'm missing some highly relevant point.

catgirl1976 · 15/08/2017 19:28

It's gone weird, lets get back on track.

Kursk, all the best to you whatever happens.

badbadhusky · 15/08/2017 19:29

Thanks catgirl.

The Preppers topic is that way >

catgirl1976 · 15/08/2017 19:34

I've been on it Grin DH thinks I'm mad. I hope he's right.

cozietoesie · 15/08/2017 19:34

From a CNN Money piece regarding the recent CEO flight.

"Companies like Lockheed Martin (LMT), which rely on the federal government for lucrative contracts, may also worry about a backlash from a White House that is notoriously sensitive to criticism.

"You never want to get on the wrong side of an administration -- because it has an incredible ability to make your life difficult as a corporate executive," Calkins said.

That's why it's so telling that CEOs are increasingly willing to run that risk."

BiglyBadgers · 15/08/2017 19:41

It is relevant in that it is people like Kursk, who believe they live without receiving any benefits from the state in anyway and frankly see no reason to care about people not in their fortunate position, who at best ignore the dismantling of Government and at worst actively support it. It is people like that who have created Trump and on this side of the pond Brexit as well. It is a delusion that is genuinely dangerous and should be challenged.

But yes, you are right that there is no real point in filling up this thread with this stuff as I doubt Kursk is going to suddenly see the light now. Moving on...

Living off grid means having the means and the wish to access British chat forums 3000 miles away.

What else don't you know Kursk?

I chose today to get through some telly I had in the can, and started with Neil Oliver's "Scotland and the Klan", aired last October.

Turned out to be horribly relevant. This very short article on it can't express the detail, but may be worth a look.

This story is a really big deal, and Americans have a need to know about such things. Where's the media?

I'm not talking about quick news stories, 500 words here, 30 seconds of air there, I'm talking the deep dig coverage.

Local coverage has been very good. Oklahoma City does not take domestic terrorism lightly. They get it.

I have about two dozen media requests in my inbox to talk about the guys with guns in Charlottesville.

I haven't had a single media request about a guy who tried to detonate a 1000 pound bomb.

Id like to think that media doesn't care because the plot failed, but there was even less coverage last year, when a guy from the same 1/2

Movement successfully blew up a car and home in Arizona. 2/2

He's 'Daddy', Pain.

Actually, there's one thing - given the nature of his base. The issue would be proving it. His base would just cry 'Fake'!
