To think people underestimate impact of advantages

I think lots of people underestimate the impact of advantages in their life.
So having parents who value education and encourage you.
Having parents who find the best school for you.
Having loving parents who create a loving environment to grow up in.
Getting help with house deposits.
Having a parent who will help you out when things go wrong.

All or some of these things makes it so much easier to have a good life. Yet so many people underestimate the impact.

I was thinking about this thread today when I was out on a kayak.

If advantage is like a tailwind when cycling, then intersectionality is like kayaking on a lake.

There's a head/tail wind to help or hinder. There are also tributary streams/springs which create a flow which could be going with or against the wind. There are other boaters out on the lake who could get in your way, or create a wake. Then there's the tosser on a jet ski who cuts you up and leaves you struggling just to stay afloat.
