cozie only musk and Merck were on the manufacturing committee but the other two were on other committees.

It's hard to get my head around the fact that there are families having to disown literal nazis today. In 2017.

It does not bear thinking about Bath and bigly.

I think it was David Duke who Tweeted that the Charlottesville driver acted in self-defence, how the hell did the man come to that conclusion?
It is comforting to see such an outpouring of anger against ‘isms,

pain we're forgetting about the threat of nuclear war because of the Rise Of the Nazis.

It's totally amazing, this time last year I would have been cursing Trump and Brexit the Movie for being unrealistic Hmm, yet today NK/Nukes has been pushed from the front page due to the Rise of the Nazi’s. I’m stuck between WTF, OMG I’m scared and LOL, Really? REALLY?

DH was pondering if his apocalypse survival plans could be adapted for when the Black Shirts come a-knocking.

Gosh

www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/news/the-fix/wp/2017/08/14/trumps-response-to-charlottesville-was-softer-than-breitbarts-and-infowars/

Trump’s response to Charlottesville was softer than the reactions of Breitbart and Infowars

A Breitbart account of the white supremacist gathering described it as “a torch-wielding, Nazi-flag-waving dereliction of American values” and “a disgusting and unwelcome throwback to segregationist ideas.”

In an online video, Infowars founder Alex Jones said “the white nationalists who hate people who aren't white are idiots, and I decry it.”

Trump's response to Charlottesville is despicable.

luke it is horrifying. I'm looking to indulge the "lol really??" response more today so if anyone can find a link to the whole John Oliver episode (thanks lweji for the clip!), I'd be very grateful.

orlantina · 14/08/2017 17:44

Trump delivering a statement at the moment.

Condemns bigotry and racism. Hypocrite.

orlantina · 14/08/2017 17:45

Very short. Didn't take any questions.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 14/08/2017 17:45

Trump's childish tweet reacting to Frazier's resignation may backfire on him.

Even though most of us MNetters may not be US citizens we are still customers of these companies - so we can still let them know we plan to boycott their products/services if they continue to support a Nazi in the WH.

From BBC News website:
One of only a handful of black heads of Fortune 500 companies resigns from a White House advisory board in protest at Donald Trump's tepid response to the Charlottesville attacks, and the president cannot resist kicking the man on the way out of the door.
While it is a move that is in keeping with Mr Trump's reputation as someone who responds aggressively to any perceived slight, his tweet is politically risky.
Pressure will mount on other corporate leaders to follow suit, lest they be viewed as being soft on racism.
Leaders such as Thea Lee of the AFL-CIO, Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase, Indra Nooyi of PepsiCo and Mary Barra of General Motors are sure to feel the heat from members and shareholders.

I think the rest of John Oliver was on North Korea. Very interesting too

Trump about to speak live.

@Rob_Flaherty summarizes what we are expecting.

We'll live-tweet and live-blog Trump's remarks on this thread.

Trump is now taking credit for the economic gains for which Obama is responsible and falsely claiming companies are coming back to the U.S.

Trump: I would like to give Americans an update on the "horrific attack and violence that was witnessed by everyone"

Trump: "To anyone who acted criminally" you will be punished.

"Anyone"?

Trump:

"Racism is evil"

Then he called out the KKK – but also included a ambiguous reference to "other hate groups."

Aaaaaaaand, it's over.

Trump left and took NO questions.

Aaaaaand Democratic Senator and former governor of Virginia @MarkWarner is on MSNBC saying Trump "sounded presidential"

😩

Lweji · 14/08/2017 17:53

Sorry, the second clip was

(not sure if I posted it or similar earlier)

orlantina · 14/08/2017 17:53

I can't believe he discussed the economy before making the statement.

Actually, I can...

TheNorthWestPawsage · 14/08/2017 17:55

Apparently he's planning on a trip to NY this evening to go to Trump Tower...I do hope he gets a good New York 'welcome'.

Its funny that he keeps claiming economic success, having passed no fiscal legislation. The economy is in fact following the trend from Obama's administrationn.

The stock market increases are actually already factoring in the tax cuts he claims he will make, so there will be no bounce once that actually happens.

So really he's increased share prices, but the real economy is performing as it did when Obama was in office, because of the work completed by 44s administration.

Roussette · 14/08/2017 18:04

Is it just too little too late. He's addressed it now but surely because he's been under immense pressure to say what he just said.

BiglyBadgers · 14/08/2017 18:11

This guy posted a nice thread on Twitter about the Charlottesville marches and now has this short article in the independent. I like the way it explores the 'we will not be replaced slogan' shouted by the white supremacists, saying

But overcome what? If, as Martin Luther King famously suggested, a riot is the voice of the unheard, then what could it be that a mob of the very much heard might desire? I remembered their chants. Apparently what a mob of the heard wants is to not be replaced.

Fascinating, extraordinary — to fight to not be replaced. It suggests this is where they think our culture is heading: the wholesale replacement of Biff and Skip and Chadwick. Which further suggests they believe the position they hold is one they are keeping others from. It necessarily follows that they think holding this position is as good and right as is denying it to others. Thus, privilege acknowledges its privilege even as it pleads oppressed inequality.

This is why villains are stealing the aspect and bearing of heroes: because the heroism and moral clarity of civil rights is something others have, which they do not, and they cannot bear for others to have something that might otherwise come to them.

The civil rights movement fought and bled and died, so that everybody might have a chair at the table. These venomous crybabies want to fight to make sure they sit in the only chair, and expect to have it credited to them as moral virtue.

If I were to name the sickness presently coursing through the national veins, I might name it this way: Too many of us have confused the idea of oppression with that of opposition.

www.independent.co.uk/voices/charlottesville-white-male-supremacist-attack-killing-oppressed-venomous-crybabies-a7893011.html?amp

I think he is right to say that these people are not shouting because they are in anyway oppressed or even diminished. They are not misunderstood or forgotten. They are complaining because there are people opposing what they see as their god-given right to be at the top of the pyramid shitting on the rest of us. Well, as far I am concerned they can just fuck the fuck off!

Donald Trump just hit a new low in the Gallup poll today.

34% approval rating.

Yeah, but Gallup's the wrong sort of poll. Grin
I wonder if anyone is daring to show him these figures? He'll surely be having a toddler tantrum shortly if he sees this? Fake poll and so on.
