TBH, I'd say Scrotus is more elitist than simply a racist. If you have the big bucks and can do him a deal, he wouldn't care if you were purple with pink stripes or worshiped the flying spaghetti monster. Conversely, you could be as white as the driven snow and attend church every Sunday, but if you aren't in a position to benefit him, he'd as soon run you over as look at you.

TheClaws · 14/08/2017 03:52

I'd agree with that Across. People, apart from his very immediate family, mean little to him I think - they are simply a means to an end, or pawns to be moved around and tossed aside when they're of no further use.

I posted this on another thread earlier. This is less than 10 years ago but feels as if it's from a bygone era. It's shocking how quickly the world can change. Warning: it may make you cry.

AcrossthePond55 · 14/08/2017 04:28

That's it Claws. He doesn't 'see' race/religion per se because he really doesn't see a person at all. We're all just 'ciphers' to him.

LukeCagesWife · 14/08/2017 06:54

I think he is a complete bigot and racist. I've not seen any black people around him, not even security, admittedly I may have missed them. Oh bar Ben Carson.

I get the feeling that he may use the odd rich black person as a 'token' but he has very set views about PoC in general, take his smearing of the US born judge being biased because the judge is of Mexican origin, I.e 'other'.

I've not seen him acknowledge the difficulties and historical disadvantage of African Americans. However they were recently used nicely with blaming immigrants for their economic inequalities.

I think his hysteria over Obama is directly related to his being a black man who dared to think himself equal.

TRump talks about helping rust belt workers (coal, manufacturing etc) but I find him silent about urban poor who are more likely to be PoC.

He has ignored police shootings but tells police to rough up suspects? The racist psyche automatically imagines black suspects.

I am a PoC so maybe over sensitive to this but but the racism is there very discreet and coded but there.

BiglyBadgers · 14/08/2017 07:33

Not particularly discreet lukecageswife. Pretty damn clear I would say. I do, however, agree with the others that it is not just black people he thinks are inferior. Also women, poor people, in fact anyone who isn't him. Race is his most obvious prejudice right now because he is surrounded and supported by white supremacists, so I'd happily advertising that one from the rooftops.

Basically he is a despicable excuse for a human being on all counts. Angry

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 14/08/2017 07:34

I think he is a racist too and I think it was ingrained into him by his father.
I also think he shares Bannon' s views on American identity, specifically that it is white Americans who share a Judeo Christian heritage who are the 'real' Americans, which is why he, a former Democrat, was so against President Obama.

Pence has finally condemned the racists and bigots by naming them. Bit late really but has been done nonetheless. I can only speculate that the toddler in chief is having a tantrum and refusing to do the right thing.

BiglyBadgers · 14/08/2017 07:34

I'd = he's

Roussette · 14/08/2017 07:34

I agree LukeCagesWife. His racism is ingrained and goes back a long way. He wouldn't, after all, sell or rent his properties to black families (he was sued more than once for it and lost) and he now surrounds himself with racists. He may try to hide it but it's there. You can't change the way you think just because you've become POTUS

He won't condemn these white supremacist groups and says he won't condemn them because 'he doesn't know enough about them' and this was only last year. If that isn't endorsement (albeit concealed) I don't know what is!

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 14/08/2017 07:35

Agreed, he is despicable.

LukeCagesWife · 14/08/2017 07:38

I agree Bigly, I also think he is a bigot too.

Not entirely sure how a Jewish SIL fits but I think that's because he is wealthy and his little girls husband Hmm. He pretty much ignored the Holucaust Rememberance didn't he?

PerkingFaintly · 14/08/2017 07:48

I agree, Luke. And I also agree with those saying we're all just ciphers to him.

I suspect his ciphering of people of colour is different from his ciphering of white people. He'll have absorbed the racist psyche from those around him all his life, so even if he's never troubled himself to think about other human beings, that psyche is there.

Lweji · 14/08/2017 07:51

HAPPENING NOW: people gathering at a confederate monument in #Baltimore to, "show solidarity with anti-racists in #Charolettesville" #WBAL

And that is the good thing about racists coming out of the woodwork. The backlash.
I just hope there's enough of it.

This reminds me of some comments by Trevor Noah that the US had never really dealt with their racism. It wasn't talked about.
I wonder if a good result from the Trump's presidency will be that the US will finally have to face and call their racism out.

I'll see if I can find the clip.

orlantina · 14/08/2017 08:04

The fact that he uses twitter to name and shame people, to attack people and to make points about Islamic terror speaks volumes when he doesn't use it.

His ONLY twitter use yesterday was a single retweet.

The DOJ is opening a civil rights investigation on the car attack in Charlottesville

And we all know that any accusations of racism will be called ridiculous by Sarah Sanders...

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 14/08/2017 08:08

lweji yes that's the one very faint silver lining about all of this - it helps people realise what they value (of course in some cases, that means being more open with their racism/misogyny etc).

Some backlash:

Roussette · 14/08/2017 08:10

Yes. Hoist with his own petard comes to mind.

He uses Twitter to bleat, whine, condemn, and to angrily call out anyone or anything that annoys him. Then when therre is silence on something very crucial, that silence speaks volumes.

He can shout and scream on twitter more about NKorea than he can about violence by hate groups in his own country, yet he thinks people won't notice. Oh yes they do

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 14/08/2017 08:15

Elizabeth Picciuto @epicciuto
Trump was more willing to call his country's intelligence community Nazis than he was to call actual Nazis Nazis.

This is madness. VA Gov McAuliffe says police didn't engage because they feared the armed racist militias with semiautomatic weapons.

We're not on a 17 day vacation, not us. We have meetings and calls! Now where did that golf ball go?...Trump cont.
orlantina · 14/08/2017 08:22

Some obvious questions for him or Sarah Sanders

Why does he use twitter to specifically condemn people but doesn't use it to condemn the killing of a protestor by white supremacists?

No doubt she'll side step that question

orlantina · 14/08/2017 08:25

police didn't engage because they feared the armed racist militias with semiautomatic weapons

That is seriously fucked up.

Meanwhile remember that photo from a while ago. If ever there was one rule for some people and another rule for others...

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 14/08/2017 08:27

Yes orlantina someone on twitter wrote that he condemned the non existent and made up attack in Sweden more harshly that he did nazi attacks on his own watch.

This attempt at "secretly signalling" to his base while pretending it's business as usual is bullshit and patently failing.

orlantina · 14/08/2017 08:36

You know how ISIS recruit by telling people to look at how people like them are treated by authorities in their country. You've only got to look at the dramatically different way different groups of protestors are treated by the police and authorities in the US to see how easy it could be to recruit people to take more radical action in protest against such differences in treatment.

Maybe other protestors should carry assault rifles?
