We must remember this truth: No matter our color, creed, religion or political party, we are ALL AMERICANS FIRST.

No mention of the people killed and injured

7Days · 12/08/2017 22:38

Wouldn't expect KAC to have retweeted that

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 12/08/2017 22:41

Dystopian Scribe @MsKellyMHayes

Part of me thinks, "Don't be afraid. Don't give them the satisfaction." But really, it's okay to be afraid, as long as we keep fighting.
If your fear doesn't halt you where you stand, they haven't beaten you.
No matter how many years I live, I will never get the image of those people being thrown through the air out of my head.
I've been sitting here wondering, why is this cutting so deep? White supremacy kills every day and I am quite familiar with it. But today...
I think it's because I can see it all so clearly & so many people can't or won't. Racist violence isn't just normalized, it's accelerating.
We are living under an authoritarian government, run by people who, on a good day, don't care if we live or die. The rest of the time...
I've stared down walls of cops & private security who would have killed me where I stood if they were sure they could do so without penalty
And now the DOJ has assured police departments that if they do kill us willy nilly, there will be no oversight. Not even the usual weak shit
I won't be at all surprised if the driver isn't convicted. Politicians have worked to legalize what this person has done. They endorse it.
Our country is ruled by violent, xenophobic rhetoric. Police have a free hand. The GOP controls the federal government and most states.
Nazis are marching with torches and killing counter protesters -- and our racist president has (predictably) refused to condemn them.
The Senate recently debated whether it would kill 29,000 people a year.

What will it take for people to realize the gravity of all this?
The US was never a just place, but it is presently morphing into the utopia of those who would destroy me and mine, and maybe yours too.
The exploitation of Black ppl, on pain of death, never went away, just as Native annihilation never went away. But it can always get worse.
Trump just got a five point bump for threatening nuclear war on twitter. It's time to get moving, y'all. Because it's only gonna get darker
Support local groups in your community. Attend organizing and direct action trainings. Study up on liberation movements. Do these things now
Don't wait for the body count to rise. I promise you now, it will. Prob even more so after the president refused to offend his racist fans
If you are white, and you have white friends who don't get it, or aren't active, host a sit down. Get them talking. Interrupt their inaction
If they say they agree, remind them that their opinion, and yours, are not ends in themselves. You have to fight. You have to act. Now.
Don't just speak your words, be them. And when we lose battles, comfort yourself with the knowledge that you didn't just say "what a shame"
There are a lot of things in this world I will never understand, but I understand power. We have it. But a lot of it is dormant rt now.

cozietoesie · 12/08/2017 22:43

I believe that Cory Gardner has called out 45 on the matter?

Bill Kristol @BillKristol
What @POTUS should say: "To racists and anti-Semites who claim to support me, know this: I denounce your bigotry and reject your support."

OuaisMaisBon · 12/08/2017 22:55

cozie, yes, here's a screenshot.
I've given up now, there are still the idiot Trump supporters on Twitter blaming Obama for Charlottesville and everything else. I can't take the vitriol and sheer pig-headed stupidity. Though Bill Clinton tweeted presidentially before the terrorist violence occurred. Obama seems to be keeping out of it (though not his pal Joe Biden) - did anyone else see reports that Obama would be returning to the political fray come September?

We're not on a 17 day vacation, not us. We have meetings and calls! Now where did that golf ball go?...Trump cont.
cozietoesie · 12/08/2017 23:00

There's apparently an unofficial Code of Conduct for ex-Presidents which involves staying out of things?

OuaisMaisBon · 12/08/2017 23:02

At this point, I would be tearing up the Code of Conduct book if I were Obama, but he is a better person than I. Also, Trump's "Presidential" behaviour has been completely without precedent and would warrant Obama straying from the book of manners.

cozietoesie · 12/08/2017 23:13

I doubt, somehow, that he's sitting swinging on the porch chair and sipping one of many mint juleps. Wink

lionheart · 12/08/2017 23:14

Hello HowDo.

I did read about Obama coming back to help with the Democratic election process.

cozietoesie · 12/08/2017 23:22

If I were You Know Who, I'd be staying well out of things until Mr Mueller's first report is in - at least. Smile

badbadhusky · 12/08/2017 23:53

Across - your post at 20.44 is Sad I hope you are feeling better. Have a (hug).

Welcome to our new delurkers. Please stick around & keep posting.

cozietoesie · 12/08/2017 23:56

Across is having to bear some brunt that some of us - not all of the rest of us - don't have to on a daily basis. More Gin and ribena, girl. Grin

AcrossthePond55 · 13/08/2017 00:08

Thanks, bad. I'm feeling better now, thank's to cozie's suggested gin and Ribena.

It just gets so frustrating. I'm heartened to see that a number of GOP VIPs have tweeted and made statements that, if not outright condemning Scrotus, at least rebuke him.

Sometimes I think that the whole GOP is just waiting for him to take that one step over the line, something so egregious that they can all desert his sinking Ship of State and keep their constituents.

Lweji · 13/08/2017 00:15

Trump during the campaign to black voters:
"What have you got to lose (by voting for me)? "

Well... Lots, it turns out. Angry

cozietoesie · 13/08/2017 00:24

A fair old proportion of the GOP, anyway, Across - and they won't wait too long by my reckoning. Did you see that he's been ...........singularising McConnell?

cozietoesie · 13/08/2017 01:09

I 'suspect' that he actually thought he was geeing McConnell up. ( As in his notion of business.) He clearly has no idea what McConnell did for him so rubbing salt into those wounds is not going to help him.

NannyOggsKnickers · 13/08/2017 06:41

Morning All (or not if you're in the states)

Delurking again to say hello. What happened yesterday just serves to underline the fact that Trump exploited far right ideology to get elected but really has no control or understanding of the groups he let back in to main stream politics. And his tweets stink of back peddling and backside covering. But let's not be too specific, Donald. Because you need these guys for your coming apocalypse.

I mentioned a few dozen threads ago an analysis I'd seen that said the mainstream GOP will start abandoning him once his approval dropped three more points. The time is now and McCain has started the charge. Let's see a Republican congress impeach a Republican president.

CaveMum · 13/08/2017 06:47

Read this on Facebook this morning:

The Right is looking at the results of their hate mongering today in Charlottesville while gasping in disbelief.

"We didn't cause this! This isn't what we wanted!" they all exclaim.

When you fought to control women through reproductive abuse, you caused this.

When you fought to instill your brand of religious terrorism as law, you caused this.

When you denied well researched and scientifically proven facts, you caused this.

When you stayed silent in the face of continued illegal redlining, you caused this.

When you denied the facts showing a wage gap exists, you caused this.

When you allowed a hoodie to be a sign of guilt and a reason to enact deadly force, you caused this.

When you elected officials who enacted egregious legislation that laid the bulk of the country's taxes on the poor and middle class while ceding numerous tax breaks to the wealthy, you caused this.

When you said All Lives Matter, you caused this.

When you denied or repealed laws for safe, sane gun safety, you caused this.

When you fought to keep people in love from marrying each other, you caused this.

When you looked the other way as the NFL signed wife beaters and dog fighters yet left a peaceful protester in the cold, you caused this.

When you myopically focused only on emails that were proven time and again to be a nonissue, you caused this.

When you put on that red hat, you caused this.

When you chanted "lock her up," you caused this.

When you decided grabbing pussies was a presidential act, you caused this.

When you laughed as a man called for interference in our election process, you caused this.

When you ignored the disabled and the families of those who died for your rights being mocked, you caused this.

When you decided "anyone but her" was guiding you in the voting booth, you caused this.

When you canonized a man who has nothing but bankruptcies, broken marriages, and failing resorts to his name because he's white and has a penis, you caused this.

When you vilified a public servant who's worked for nearly three decades for people in need, you caused this.

When you voted for a man who is in no way qualified to lead a sing-a-long, much less a country, you caused this.

You caused this when you put party over country and this DOES represent you. This represents every dirty, nasty, self-centered thing about you.

When the historians look back on this era in America, they will not look on you kindly. You will be seen for the villains you are, rather than the victims you see yourself to be.

THIS is who you are.

That's powerful stuff. I do wonder what Trump is thinking this morning.

Meanwhile, he shows his strong use of vocabulary..

badbadhusky · 13/08/2017 07:57

Yeah, not rushing to condemn the violence this morning. I thought there were now 3 dead - caught the news lare last night, but was only half listening.

orlantina · 13/08/2017 08:03

A police helicopter crashed as well. He tweeted about that.
