Help me remember this cereal!

You have been warned!
I was in the cereal aisle recently and suddenly had a flash back to an awesome cereal, probably around late 90's, I used to love and now I have a massive craving for it.
All I remember is that it was squares, they weren't flat, they were puffed up a bit, they didn't have anything inside them like blueberry wheats do, in fact I don't think they were made of wheat, they were more sugary than that. Kind of yellowey in colour.

Oh god they were so good. Probably discontinued now which is fine but it's driving me mad!

Toppas? Which later changed to Frosted Wheats as Ageing suggested?

I loved those, could eat them for every meal of the day!!

dailyshite · 01/08/2017 09:36

Im sure it was oat crunchies - does this look more familiar?

WashingMatilda · 01/08/2017 09:38

daily they really do look like them there tbf.... Were they slightly hollow and 'airy'?

dailyshite · 01/08/2017 09:38

Sorry, just seen that someone has already posted that. Oat crunchies had a really distinct texture, they sort of deflated and melt in your mouth except for the corners which stayed a bit harder.

dailyshite · 01/08/2017 09:38

That's exactly what they were like - airy!

flickerty · 01/08/2017 09:40

Was it these yellow ones in this pic?

LadyPenelope68 · 01/08/2017 09:41

Was it Golden Nuggets, I loved them!

flickerty · 01/08/2017 09:42

As an aside how cool was it getting a toy in your cereal... be it a colour changing spoon/bike reflector.... sigh. Nostalgia ey Smile

Janeinthemiddle · 01/08/2017 09:45

Hidden treasures?

itsonlysubterfuge · 01/08/2017 09:48

Did you have Cap'n Crunch in the UK?

WashingMatilda · 01/08/2017 09:50

flickerty
I'm sure that's them!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are they Oat Krunchies??

OP posts:
WashingMatilda · 01/08/2017 09:51

Gierg · 01/08/2017 09:53

They sell them in Scandinavia as Havre Fras, so if you can't find them any more in the UK, those online Scandi grocery stores will probably have them (for an over inflated price of course :P)

dailyshite · 01/08/2017 09:54

I think that is what is in Flickerty's picture too - they were bloody lovely. Didn't know they still made them under a different name.

blahdblah · 01/08/2017 09:54

It was golden something...

I'd forgotten about toys, flickerty. Wasn't that great!

I can't understand why they don;t put toys in frozen veg. or bags of apples to persuade kids to eat them. A toy is way more appealing than a health benefit ! Grin

itsonlysubterfuge · 01/08/2017 09:55

washing the cereal in Flickerty's picture is Krave

WashingMatilda · 01/08/2017 09:57

It's so weird because the ones flickerty posted and the photo of them in the bowl look exactly like what I'm thinking of, but gierg thats definitely not them, perhaps they changed the recipe?

OP posts:
WashingMatilda · 01/08/2017 09:58

Gaaahhh it's definitely not Krave, they are relatively new and only released in the last 8 years or so, these were mid to late 90's.

Sad

I don't know what they are, they came up on a google search and it's sold at the cereal killer cafe as a cereal cocktail called choco-pottamus (or something!).
I know the exact ones you mean though and they look JUST like this but I have a feeling the ones in the picture might be the Krave cereal which has a choc filling.... argh

flickerty · 01/08/2017 10:01

X-post as I was googling further lol

WashingMatilda · 01/08/2017 10:02

Thank you so much flickerty

Did they come with free gift of pirate themed pairs game? You had to collect the vouchers?

QuizteamBleakley · 01/08/2017 10:04

@Flickerty & @Matilda - that bowl looks like a disgusting mix of Scampi Fries, crappy Cocoa Pops & a Kinder hippo... WTF?! Bet it's yours for £7 a bowl.

dailyshite · 01/08/2017 10:05

It's Oat Krunchies that you are talking about OP - I'm sure and also a little over invested as I'm avoiding starting to write an article

BarnsligRav · 01/08/2017 10:07

Yes I remember! Can't remember what they were called but they were by Quaker.
