Help me remember this cereal!

You have been warned!
I was in the cereal aisle recently and suddenly had a flash back to an awesome cereal, probably around late 90's, I used to love and now I have a massive craving for it.
All I remember is that it was squares, they weren't flat, they were puffed up a bit, they didn't have anything inside them like blueberry wheats do, in fact I don't think they were made of wheat, they were more sugary than that. Kind of yellowey in colour.

Oh god they were so good. Probably discontinued now which is fine but it's driving me mad!

You can still buy Country Store! Ocado sell it.

I bought some recently but found it too sweet... there was loads of undissolved sugar left in the milk at the end! Bit disappointing as it was my favourite as a child.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 01/08/2017 14:25

I've found my Country Store tribe! That's what I would worry about if I did taste it again, Ignatius Do you think it was you or the recipe had changed.
I am forever trying to recreate the bowl of Bircher muesli I had in Zurich airport in about 1980. I can still taste it now. The brain is a stupendous thing.

ignatiusjreilly · 01/08/2017 14:50

Hoof, I think the recipe is the same, but cereals are generally less sugary these days so it was a bit of a shock!

It was so excited when it arrived... the picture on the box is exactly as I remembered with all the different grains in their little compartments Grin

CarrieBradshaw85 · 01/08/2017 15:00

chex?

ignatiusjreilly · 01/08/2017 15:04

Actually, no wonder I have so many fillings these days... I've just made the connection! I genuinely thought it was a healthy choice too Blush

Kellogg's, you tooth-rotting bastards.

WashingMatilda · 01/08/2017 15:46

ignatus makes perfect sense to me now too!
Make mine neither of those, they didn't have any filling in them unlike me

I think the most likely is oat krunchies and the recipe has been changed over the years.
The only issue is I was convinced that as soon as I heard the name I would recognise it, and that name isn't ringing a bell.
Pretty sure I had then quite a lot as well.
Hmmmmm. Confused

I was thinking of corn pops, these ones don't look as round

My dh has been trying to find what sounds like the same cereal op. He described them as looking exactly like Krave cereal but without the filling. I don't remember the cereal but he's driven me nuts for years trying to find it and trying different cereals.

NorksAreMessy · 01/08/2017 21:38

The PROPER Special K shape lived on in the tiny little cereal packets that you buy as holiday cereal in packs of eight (there is probably a proper name for that )
So whilst the 'grown up' Special K went all big and cornflakey, the tiny K stayed like squashed Krispies

Sidebar: when DC were small, Rice Krispies were known as 'mice dickdies' .

For people yearning for what Special K used to be like before they changed it to the crappy sugary American recipe they use, Waitrose own brand knock-off (Rice Flakes? I forget - blue/turquoise box) is exactly what it used to be like and is completely perfect.

peachgreen · 02/08/2017 13:10

I think they were Golden Oaties too! I remember them very clearly although I don't recognise that box - but everything else fits!

What I think you're thinking of is crispix honey but I doubt you'll ever see this post now 🩷
