Labour 'could reverse Brexit'

LovelyBath77 · 29/07/2017 17:16

On the newspaper today the London mayor says he thinks this could happen Confused

But- 1. Labour are pro Brexit
2. Could they call another election?

No, Labour are not pro Brexit.

Jeremy Corbyn is.

There's a difference.

ImperialBlether · 29/07/2017 17:18

What was it Corbyn said - something like 70% of him wanted Brexit. That was just before the referendum.

eurochick · 29/07/2017 17:18

If they'd said that before the election they might have got my vote...

MissBax · 29/07/2017 17:18

No, Labour are not pro Brexit.

Jeremy Corbyn is.

There's a difference

This.

Tilapia · 29/07/2017 17:18

The majority of labour voters (approx two thirds according to the opinion polls) voted to Remain.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 29/07/2017 17:20

I would say labour are as split on brexit as the Torres are, as much of the country is.
Shit situation.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 29/07/2017 17:21

Tories, not Torres the footballer although he might be divided on it too.

ghostyslovesheets · 29/07/2017 17:23

which newspaper? - start there!

Labour are not generally pro brexit but they do support the outcome of the referendum

what they might want is a further referendum based on the actual Brexit deal - you know facts and shit - but ti's unlikely

they can't call an election - they are not in power

there could be another election but not because Labour wants it

ghostyslovesheets · 29/07/2017 17:29

also he is not saying they would reverse Brexit at all

got to love the Daily Fail and it's accurate scaremongering reporting

what he has said is they could stand on a manifesto pledge of not leaving OR a further referendum - which would require people to VOTE -not that they will ride roughshod over the original vote

Violetparis · 29/07/2017 17:33

Corbyn didn't say he 70% wanted Brexit, he actually gave the EU a score of 7 out of 10 when he was asked to rate it on The Last Leg. This was shortly before the referendum.

LovelyBath77 · 29/07/2017 17:41

It is the Guardian

Found the article for you

www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/jul/28/labour-can-stop-brexit-but-only-with-fresh-vote-says-sadiq-khan

OP posts:
LovelyBath77 · 29/07/2017 17:48

Sorry that was a mistake in the OP-it should have said "Labour can stop Brexit".

OP posts:
ghostyslovesheets · 29/07/2017 17:48

they aren't saying they will stop it - they are saying they would get the public to vote for them based on that stance - that's not the same

LovelyBath77 · 29/07/2017 17:51

I'm just quoting the headline...

OP posts:
mummmy2017 · 29/07/2017 17:54

They said they could wipe out student fees as well... lol

JemmyBloocher · 29/07/2017 17:54

Fucking Brexit. The most idiotic thing to happen to this country in many a year. Labour can't and won't reverse it. We're on a highway to a shitfest because a lot of non-economists voted for it. Brilliant.

birdsdestiny · 29/07/2017 17:57

I am afraid that at the moment corbyn and his gang are Labour. Corbyn wants Brexit.

LovelyBath77 · 29/07/2017 17:57

I think f-ing Brexit too and think lots of people do. Maybe that's why they are thinking this Confused

OP posts:
LovelyBath77 · 29/07/2017 17:57

Birds true, not the mayor. Sad

Imho, the only way this could possibly happen would be for Chuka and crew to align themselves with Vince in a coalition and offer an alternative vote to Jeremy based on a reverse Brexit stance.

Chuka and co aren't stepping up though for some unknown reason.

Frankly I think he probably knows that the will isn't there. I wish it was, but it isn't, as exemplified by Zac Goldsmith wining in Richmond in the last election, a previously pro-Brexit constituency.

After 29 March 2019 the game is up because thereafter we would have to basically re-apply to get back in the EU without retaining sterling and without the tax and other concessions we have now. Theresa May won't want to call an election before then, and Jeremy is happy to bowl along until then, because he doesn't want to deal with the dog's dinner that is Brexit. We're buggered in other words.

LovelyBath77 · 29/07/2017 18:05

I see, think you are probably right. If khan / chukka etc were in charge might well be different.

OP posts:
Gemini69 · 29/07/2017 18:07

I couldn't care less about Labour... with Diane Abbot that supports Riots and Corbyn who lies to the youngest Voters we have....

they are SCUM

LovelyBath77 · 29/07/2017 18:09

A more rational Labour may have managed to get us out of Brexit, perhaps.

If there is enough public support for a second referendum or if the current Tory mess keeps going and new election is needed, then why not?
Something as big as leaving EU shouldn't have happened the way it did. It was criminally negligent on behalf of Cameron and I feel we must track the money trail in all this.
In the mean time, if all the youth comes out to vote for Remain side in another referendum and/or election and the result is Remain, it will still be democracy. And a very lively one too.
