LovelyBath77 · 29/07/2017 17:16

On the newspaper today the London mayor says he thinks this could happen Confused

But- 1. Labour are pro Brexit
2. Could they call another election?

It will get exciting once it's stars biting. Won't be good exciting though.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 29/07/2017 19:04

It bites my shopping bill every week.

lessworriedaboutthecat · 29/07/2017 19:24

I'm unsure about Sadiq Khan, I'm not a Londoner so its hard for me to say how well he's doing although I was impressed with his response to the recent terror attacks. A large part of that though is his refusal to get drawn into a twitter beef with Trump.

birdsdestiny · 29/07/2017 19:44

I am afraid I think the centre left of the Labour party are too scared to challenge corbyn. I hope I am wrong but I have been waiting for them to make a move for so long now .

lessworriedaboutthecat · 29/07/2017 19:49

The centre left of the labour party are the people that gave us the Iraq war. voted for intervention in Libya. Did nothing about the housing crisis. Failed to properly regulate the banks. Just about everything we blame the Tories for was continued or started by new labour.

birdsdestiny · 29/07/2017 19:58

Gave us sure start, equal age of consent, minimum wage, good friday agreement. Were actually in power.

lessworriedaboutthecat · 29/07/2017 20:04

I wouldn't say either the minimum wage or the good Friday agreement can be wholly put down to new Labour. Equal age of consent and sure start were a good thing though. The Conservatives gave us a gay marriage and I don't like them much either

lessworriedaboutthecat · 29/07/2017 20:05

Just clarify I don't dislike the conservatives because of gay marriage I support that. Its a lot of their other policies I don't like.

Gemini69 · 29/07/2017 20:15

lol Grin

x2boys · 29/07/2017 20:18

Um I watched an interview with Jeremy Corbyn on the morning of the election results he said Brexit would happen regardless of who was in power.. .

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 29/07/2017 20:34

And this us where Khan will attack him. He's safe as mayor, it will be interesting to watch.

Disclaimer- I'm not a Labour voter, am a remainer.

I do wonder will a remain promise make me vote Labour. Probably not.

JemmyBloocher · 29/07/2017 20:35

Yes, Labour really let the country down on that one. A large proportion of voters who voted for Brexit are Labour heartland voters; working class people who either felt let down by politicians and invisible or basically knew fuck all and voted for it because their mates did. So depressing.

Crispdeficiency · 29/07/2017 20:49

Chardonnay would you feel like voting Lib Dem though? (Don't need to answer obviously; just posing the question!)

Sorry to harp back to Richmond, if Brexit is the biggest challenge facing the UK since the end of the second world world, would this not have been the time to make a protest vote and vote Lib Dem? Clearly that constituency (and the nation) said no - which as a fellow Remainer, I find hard to believe and understand. Heathrow aside, what happened in Richmond is emblematic of what is happening across the rest of the country. Lemmings are heading for the edge of the cliff, and no one has the balls or resolution to stop it.

Crispdeficiency · 29/07/2017 20:59

That should probably read "had" the balls - because it's probably all too late now Sad

Amouselivedinawindmill · 29/07/2017 21:00

I don't understand his comments, I thought a huge swell of support for Brexit came from Labour supporters?

If people wanted to reverse Brexit why didnt they vote for the Lib dems?
I think he is in the classic London centric bubble)

lessworriedaboutthecat · 29/07/2017 21:03

I think most of Sadiq Khan's voters voted remain. London as whole did overwhelming.

LovelyBath77 · 29/07/2017 21:04

Lib dems are in here, due to remain area. Kind of wish Labour had taken on stance as remain party, might have worked for them. Who knows.

Violetparis · 29/07/2017 21:05

I was surprised the Lib Dems didn't do better at the General Election. Everyone I know whose vote I know of voted for the party they usually vote for, regardless of whether they voted remain or leave. People I know who had never voted before voted Labour.

lessworriedaboutthecat · 29/07/2017 21:06

Your right Jemmy dead thick chavs the lot of them. I wonder how they'll all feel when their benefits are cut post Brexit.

lessworriedaboutthecat · 29/07/2017 21:11

Probably all from shitty northern town like Rotherham who get all their news from the Sun and have this weird idea that millions of Muslims are flooding into Europe. Probably think they'll get their kids hooked on smack and rape them lol

Violetparis · 29/07/2017 21:12

More labour constituencies voted leave, but about two thirds of labour voters in total voted remain (due in large to big cities like London, Manchester and Newcastle). Difficult for Labour to manage.

lessworriedaboutthecat · 29/07/2017 21:18

Is that two thirds figure not based on how people voted in the 2015 general election though when there was a large swing to UKIP in marginal seats in the North and Midlands.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 29/07/2017 21:22

I don't know Crisps. I have voted Lib Dem in the past and have been disappointed, I have voted Conservative and have been disappointed. Lib Dem feels to me like a protest vote and I want to be a grown up and not fuck about with protest voting.

But again, Con won in Richmond Park with 45 votes. Apart from Heathrow Richmond would be a constituency hit quite hard by Labour taxes, and a vote for Lib Dem was a vote for Labour in this election, so I suppose the threat of a Brexit in the future was perceived as lower than high taxes now.

I still can't make sense of all political happenings tbh. I feel disenfranchised in a way. I want a centrist, safe, reasonable, Remain party. There's is none, we're swinging too far to the right or to the left for me.

But maybe that's just me.

Violetparis · 29/07/2017 21:22

Yes, the two thirds figure is not based on the most recent election and is an estimate.

Violetparis · 29/07/2017 21:25

Curious as to why people don't see the Lib Dems as a centrist, remain party.
