Especially in relation to cleaning.

It started raining and I said to a colleague "oh no, and I've left my washing out" whilst being a little annoyed it wouldn't be dry by the time I got home.

She said, "oh dear now you have to wash it all again!"

Really? Is that the done thing? Do I have to rewash washing if it rains on it? I have never even considered doing this my whole life!

And I've got another friend who can't leave the washing in the machine for more than an hour before hanging it, if it's been longer than that she rewashes it.

I on the other hand can but the machine on at night and hang it in the morning. I've never noticed anything smelling.

Am I gross?

It depends. If it's been torrential then I do rewash but I couldn't actually tell you why. A light shower or two and I'll pop it in the dryer.

It depends on how much rain it got on it as to whether I would rewash. If it was a shower then I'd leave it saturated with rain it gets rewashed. The only time you need to re-wash your clothes is if they get darked on

My hubby is the same, but I like to think he is the odd one and my more relaxed standards are normal

Oh and washing left to long in our machine really smells. When that happens I just do the rinse setting with a bit of fabric conditioner rather than rewashing the whole load.

Heavy rain then I'd spin the washing and hang up again to dry - I wouldn't re-wash, that's just bonkers.

I quite like my washing setting rained on, it saves me ironing it. Mind you, my method of " ironing" is to soak a shirt under the shower and let it drip dry.

I think of washing that's been rained on as having gone through an extra rinse cycle. No need to wash it again!

Heavy rain leaves the washing smelling funny - as in not freshly Lenor'ed - so I'd wash it again. I love the smell of fabric softener and clean washing. But if it was just a few drops of rain I'd not worry.

Yes I'd heard people saying that. I just spin and hang on airer. BUT I don't leave washing in the machine if I can help it. I always buy one with a delay timer on it

I consider it to be an extra wash if it gets rained on. I left the washing out last night not expecting it to rain but the forecast lied and it rained so I'm just going to leave it until its all dry again and then bring it in. I left two pairs of socks on the line for two weeks while on holiday - they got rain washed and sun dried many many times in that time and smell lovely!

However I don't like leaving washing in the machine long before hanging it up. At night I put it on the timer so it should be finishing just as I get up or within an hourish before I get up but if I get up really late or if I put the machine on during the day and then forget about it I usually stick it back on the rinse cycle again to freshen up.

Depends on how polluted the rain in the area is, I'd assume.

Heavy rain means it is actually wetter than freshly out of the washing machine, so it makes sense to rewash if you don't know how to get the machine to make it dry-er without washing. (I'm sure it is possible, but wouldn't know how)

As for leaving the washing in the machine, it does start to smell. I wouldn't rewash it, tbh, but it is annoying.

I would re-rinse washing (with softener) that had been left in the machine more than three hours - I hate that stale smell. Probably wouldn't be as big a deal if I had outside space for drying, but we don't (yet!).

I would rewash it because I live within 1 mile of a filthy coal power station that coughs black dust all over everything.

If it stays dry you can shake everything and the dust falls off but once its got wet theres nothing you can do to get rid of the black streaks other than wash it all again.

Unfortunately I have to use the tumble dryer all year round due to the dust causing asthma problems if washing is dried on the line. I can't wait for the coal power stations to close so I can have lovely fresh line dried clothes

I would look at the washing. If it looked dirty/dingy I would stick it back in the machine, but mostly I would just leave it til it was dry and then bring it in.

I do the same as you wrt washing in the machine. Up to about 12 hours is fine, (overnight, or machine put on in morning and emptied after work) But any longer than that and it does start to smell. That is the only reason I would re wash.

Wouldn't a spin cycle do that?

If it got soaking wet, I'd put it again in the washing machine but just on the spin cycle.
Maybe they don't know how to do a stand alone spin cycle?

I live by a main road and on a flight path so sometimes rained-on washing smells of traffic fumes. It doesn't if it has dried outdoors as the road is a few streets away and the fumes don't blow over the garden.

If I'm somewhere with cleaner air I just leave it out to dry again. Maybe with a spin cycle if it got soaked through.

People are weird - that's why the world is in the state it is.

I just leave it and get it in when it has dried again. I can't tell the difference. My MiL thinks I am a slattern.

I will always rewash. I don't like the smell of rain.

London rain smells funny so I would rewash. Would probably leave it if it was a light country drizzle.

I don't rewash - I see it as an extra rinse.

Surely you can also only do an extra rinse without going through all the washing steps (and waste of water).
