Especially in relation to cleaning.

It started raining and I said to a colleague "oh no, and I've left my washing out" whilst being a little annoyed it wouldn't be dry by the time I got home.

She said, "oh dear now you have to wash it all again!"

Really? Is that the done thing? Do I have to rewash washing if it rains on it? I have never even considered doing this my whole life!

And I've got another friend who can't leave the washing in the machine for more than an hour before hanging it, if it's been longer than that she rewashes it.

I on the other hand can but the machine on at night and hang it in the morning. I've never noticed anything smelling.

Am I gross?

I put the kids wet suits out in the rain deliberately yesterday so as not to have to rinse them Grin

Natsku · 28/07/2017 11:21

Well bugger the forecast says its going to rain all day today and tomorrow so I can't leave it out to get dry again as it'll take forever! But no way am I going to wash it again!

Crunchymum · 28/07/2017 11:22

Rewash as I live in central London (In-fact I prefer not to hang clothes outside at all)

I don't leave washing in the machine. I either get it out when it's finished or it goes on a timed cycle to finish when I know someone is home to get it out.

Buggeritimgettingup · 28/07/2017 11:27

We have lovely rain in Yorkshire and I'm lazy so unless it's silin it down it stays to dry off.

lanouvelleheloise · 28/07/2017 11:32

lweji - yes, sorry, that's what I meant - my machine has a quick wash setting of 15 minutes which is basically a rinse. I wouldn't do another cotton load for 3.5 hours!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 28/07/2017 11:45

surely you can also only do an extra rinse without going through all the washing steps (and waste of water) my machine has a rinse cycle as a stand alone, it is basically the cycle of a 'proper' wash that uses the fabric softener. it also has a spin and drain cycle and the very handy 15 min wash function, I luffs my machine (need to get a life Smile)

ghostyslovesheets · 28/07/2017 11:49

fine as long as it doesn't get darked on

I think the washing smells fresher if it's been rained on then dried. It's lost the synthetic smell and is more fresh airy. You have to leave washing in the washer for more than an overnight for it to get that manky smell, unless your machine is elderly. Then again we've got a 10 year old Bosch and it's never really had that issue. Once it's been through the tumble with a softener sheet you'd not notice anyway. But then again I don't match socks... Nikephorus · 28/07/2017 12:02

The rain is full of dirt. Clean washing is now dirty washing. Seems simple to me.

Lweji · 28/07/2017 12:05

The rain is full of dirt

Hmm Where do you live?

CremeEggThief · 28/07/2017 12:08

I would re-wash for heavy rain, but not for showers. Mind you, it's been a good few years since I got caught out with heavy rain, as I am anal about hanging out washing, and I only put it out if there's over a 90% chance of it staying dry!

I always try to take washing out of the machine as soon as it stops and definitely within an hour.

A1Sharon · 28/07/2017 12:13

I am by no means a green warrior but this thread has amazed me! The absolute waste of resources.

soundsystem · 28/07/2017 12:14

I would rewash. I never used to but I do since I moved to London because... I actually don't know know. Because the air is polluted so I think the rain is dirty?!

I don't like leaving washing sitting in the machine so put it on a timer so it's finishing when I get up/get home.

Aridane · 28/07/2017 12:21

It doesn't smell clean I would rehash.

StepAwayFromCake · 28/07/2017 12:26

Unless you live in, or downwind from, a big city, rain on your clothes is a blessing in disguise. It is the softest, cleanest, sweetest-smelling water you will ever find.

Try washing your face in fresh rainwater (leave a clean bowl out to collect some) and see how it feels.

Natsku · 28/07/2017 12:28

My rain water isn't dirty! Might think different if I lived in a big city though.

Aridane · 28/07/2017 12:31

Live in a big city!

Aridane · 28/07/2017 12:32

(Not really raindrops on roses territory)

The80sweregreat · 28/07/2017 12:33

i just re - dry it somewhere ( as i did yesterday when my ds2 said 'oh i didnt realise it was raining mum' when it had been pouring down for a good few minutes over my nearly dry wash and i had just got home)
i would love a tumble dryer, but nowhere to put one.

UsernameInvalid66 · 28/07/2017 12:37

Rain doesn't bother me, seagull poo is the only deal-breaker. I wonder if the washers-after-rain are people who can't get rid of the thought that their washing could have had seagull poo on it which has been washed off, but isn't really clean any more.

TheScottishPlay · 28/07/2017 12:39

Don't mind a bit of rural, N E Scottish rain on mine.

Stepaway, it's good luck to wash your face in the morning dew on 1st May.

NerrSnerr · 28/07/2017 12:42

Mine stays out until it's dry, however long that takes. I'm far too lazy for rinse cycles and the like.

BlurryFace · 28/07/2017 12:43

If it gets wet I just leave the washing for as long as it takes to dry. It's the principle of the thing - this is meant to be summer, damn it! (shakes fist at the sky).

cjt110 · 28/07/2017 12:43

Ahem....What does getting darked on mean?.....
