To ask why is everyone obsessed with unicorns?

Unicorn cake, unicorn hair, unicorn drinks...it's everywhere. When did this become a thing? What started it? What's next?

It's a bit odd that adults follow these trends as they pop up. Prosecco, gin and pugs being just 2 "trends" that I can think of in recent years.

It reminds me of year 8 when everyone in my class were obsessed with the colour purple and kickers shoes.

I don't know but if you find out, can you also find out why everything has pineapples on it?

I never really thought about it until a couple of years ago reading the columnist in the Times who was paralysed in a horse riding accident and was in hospital for months and months. Then she came out and was like, wtf, why does everything have cupcakes on it? And I suddenly realised I had about 6 things in the kitchen that had cupcakes on them, and no memory of consciously setting out to collect cupcake things.

Marketing.

The bastards

MrsBadger · 04/07/2017 23:09

I firmly place the blame on the child in Despicable Me.

Bunbunbunny · 04/07/2017 23:10

I blame the squatty potty unicorn

Xmasbaby11 · 04/07/2017 23:11

Don't know but my 3 and 5yo dd are obsessed and practically cry with delight at a pack of unicorn stickers. So I think I like them now as I associate unicorns with their happiness!

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 04/07/2017 23:11

Because they're so FLUFFY!!

justilou · 04/07/2017 23:12

Mermaids are next

Lime19 · 04/07/2017 23:12

Yes we have not had a mermaid trend... good call!

I'm just glad to see the back of those owls!

pieceofpurplesky · 04/07/2017 23:13

I'm still obsessed with purple and kickers.
I also believe in unicorns 🦄

thisonehasalittlecar · 04/07/2017 23:13

Oooh, Mrs Badger I think you might actually be on to something... like maybe the whole hygge thing was because of Frozen!

ethelfleda · 04/07/2017 23:13

It's like that time everything had little moustaches printed on them. Wtf was that all about??

JamButtyLand · 04/07/2017 23:17

England Under21 netball team's mascot for the world youth cup is a unicorn 🦄 I reckon that's what started it. Grin

raspberrysuicide · 04/07/2017 23:18

Yes what are those moustaches on everything all about?

malificent7 · 04/07/2017 23:20

I thought mermaids were in i have a mermaid coloured pencil case

IcingSausage · 04/07/2017 23:21

Mermaids are next

Yes, definitely!

I live in a naice town with a pretty little boutique cafe who have been selling unicorn drinks/cakes/paraphernalia for a while now. They've just started doing mermaid toast. The mermaids are coming.

mikeyssister · 04/07/2017 23:21

Dolphins or fluffy bunnies next

malificent7 · 04/07/2017 23:22

In new look they have mermaid and unicorn glitter(so i have been told! ).

MistyKnightsTwistout · 04/07/2017 23:22

Mermaids are totally 'in'. I keep seeing "I grew up with mermaids" printed on everything. It annoys me.

pieceofpurplesky · 04/07/2017 23:23

By the way it was the 'secret of moonacre' that did it for me

Gingernaut · 04/07/2017 23:24

Sainsbury's are doing 'Team Mermaid' stuff for children. Right down to a baseball cap made of plastic metallic pink fish scales.

They're still doing unicorn stationery though.

Shenanagins · 04/07/2017 23:24

I only started noticing them during indyref where it came up on an American tv programme that it's Scotland's national animal. Thought that was pretty cool!

Xmasbaby11 · 04/07/2017 23:26

Ooh we have a load of mermaid stuff too. Paperchase had an amazing range last year of mermaids crossed with cats. I still covet dd's lunch bag.

BankWadger · 04/07/2017 23:27

For me it's a work place hazard.

I have noticed flamingos are big this year.

mikeyssister · 04/07/2017 23:31

Ikea has amazing pink flamingo glasses
