To be pissed off with the poppies?

《Semi lighthearted》

Live on a row of terraces, with a small area to the front of each property with a little wall round it. Some have gravel, some grass, some nothing blah blah.

One resident appears to have just chucked a shit load of wild flower seeds down in his and honestly, jt lools bloody gorgeous.

BUT. THE POPPIES?!?!?

Since his garden has really blossomed, poppies are springing up all up and down the street. But not in a nice "ooh look at their pretty garden with the poppies in". More a "this street hasnt waxed its bikini line" way. One big lovely crazy 80s bush of poppies is nice. But the stragglers growing out of cracks in walls, along the road edge, out of random pots on other peoples fronts.

Every day I come home and theres another frigging poppy on the street. They truly are the herpes of the plant world. Which is a shame as unlile herpes, they really are pretty.

I just wish they would stay put.

Herpes of the plant world made me laugh!

Although not as much as the "she dislikes wildflowers growing rebelliously in her pavement= Nazi sympathiser" conclusion a PP made.

I agree with the person who said get the whole street on a wildflower craze, it'll look lovely. Maybe get some Ivy and let it loose on everyone houses, it'll be like a fairy tale village (or weird ghost town depending on the lighting)

HoneyDragon · 14/06/2017 20:25

Forget me Nots are cunts too. Honestly, if you stayed still long enough they grow out your cleavage.

PerspicaciaTick · 14/06/2017 20:25

Hunger - if it is your garden, why wouldn't you be allowed?

TheMysteriousJackelope · 14/06/2017 20:26

What on Earth are people jumping on the OP for? You do realize she is talking about a plant that's become invasive on her street? Not the poppies for remembrance day?

I've heard of not reading the thread, but this is ridiculous.

If we are collecting data I like poppies, however my father had an inveterate hatred of hostas for a reason that was never adequately explained. If we visited Wisley we had to avoid the hosta area or he'd go off in a diatribe about them.

CoolCarrie · 14/06/2017 20:26

Lol at forget me nots are cunts!

WarwickDavisAsPlates · 14/06/2017 20:26

Tick if she's renting she might not be allowed to make flower beds in the garden?

PerspicaciaTick · 14/06/2017 20:29

A the OP has found out, you don't need flower beds for poppies, they will have a go at growing in containers too.

Hassled · 14/06/2017 20:30

I have the solution - you'll need to effectively sterilise the poppies. This will mean waiting to spot every seed head as soon as it appears and either shaking the seeds out like they are nature's own pepperpot, or just go for broke and behead them. Next year - no poppies. You'll need to have ninja-like stealth and derring-do to achieve this without widespread judgement from your neighbours and I recommend the cover of darkness. But I'm almost sure it will be a piece of piss.

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 14/06/2017 20:30

Last year DD took it upon herself to empty out all the Poppy seed heads in the garden and walk around the streets near us scattering the seeds

😊😊😊🌷🌷🌷

Haffiana · 14/06/2017 20:30

How about it's a public forum and therefore I don't have to shut because you say so.

No, carry on - you are making such a monumental tit of yourself that will be recorded forever on this public forum.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 14/06/2017 20:31

Surely dandelions are the herpes of the plant world.

I like them... beyond a 200m exclusion zone from my house. Shame about the public park and grass verges. It's a lost cause Grin

SheRaaarghPrincessOfPower · 14/06/2017 20:31

Hmm.. Those flowers look interesting

FurryLittleTwerp · 14/06/2017 20:31

I love self-set flowers all over the bloody place - a local cottage has a buddleia growing out of its chimney Grin

Hassled · 14/06/2017 20:31

The irrational hatred of hostas has made me laugh. Damn those pesky hostas and their evil flowering ways.

StrangeLookingParasite · 14/06/2017 20:33

How lovely.

Sure soldiers who fought for our country hold that sane view.

Wow, that's got to be an eleven on the ridiculometer.
One of these things is not like the other, one of these things is not the same...

2017SoFarSoGood · 14/06/2017 20:33

I am now completely inspired to take a long walk in my neighborhood with a ton of poppy seeds. Thanks for the inspiration OP. I am sorry it is not making you as happy as it is me.

WateryTart · 14/06/2017 20:34

It's a bit early for the poppy police isn't it?

DancingLedge · 14/06/2017 20:34

I really can't understand this. You think they're pretty, but you also require them to be orderly? Why?
We've tarmacked and paved so much of our environment, it gladdens my heart to see nature thriving despite us, and ninja poppies reclaiming the street? Sounds great to me.

SocksRock · 14/06/2017 20:35

furrylittletwerp buddleia really are thugs. They can really damage bricks and mortar if they get their roots into them. I really really hate them.

I quite like poppies though.

HoneyDragon · 14/06/2017 20:35

Just confirmed with dh that errant poppies are dickheads. He served frontline for ten years. He also mows the lawn. So as we were people.

CostaCoffeeRoyalty · 14/06/2017 20:35

These are my favourite poppies 👌🏻

TheFairyCaravan · 14/06/2017 20:35

We've got loads of poppies in our back garden. They look really beautiful and the bees love them so that's a good thing.

redladybird · 14/06/2017 20:35

I love poppies, infact I have a packet of lovely wild poppy seeds I am going to sow!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 14/06/2017 20:36

I like poppies, even growing where they shouldn't. I have an irrational dislike of carnations though, they are bland and come in horrible colours.

Coddiwomple · 14/06/2017 20:36

It is indeed a public forum nostringstoholdmedown but you are ridiculous. Publicly.
