To show how ridiculous the BMI calculator is... My BMI is 19, yet look at the state of my body fat!

Sick of being told I don't need to lose weight as I'm 'skinny'.

AIBU to think that I am indeed too fat?

Too fat for what? A size zero wetsuit? Yeah probably. Too fat to function? No.

frenboop · 14/06/2017 15:44

IF your BMI is 19 you are fine. Just not hugely toned

Where do the people that post these pictures of themselves get this nice black underwear?

hellobonjour · 14/06/2017 15:44

I don't think the angle you're taking the picture at and the way you're sitting is doing much for you. However if you stood up then it would be more flattering.

I think you look quite normal though Confused

queenunreasonable · 14/06/2017 15:44

I personally donut think you're very fat, I would also say that this angle/pose is NEVER the most flattering so it's hard to say from this photo!

are you a generally healthy person or do you feel like you need a change?

Quartz2208 · 14/06/2017 15:45

Yeah that is a toning and exercise based issue rather than a losing weight issue!

flibberdee · 14/06/2017 15:45

BMI is such a load of codswallop but don't be too hard on yourself. If we didn't have those rolls on the belly we would split apart when we bend over backwards Grin

queenunreasonable · 14/06/2017 15:45

*don't not donut!!! 😂

Newjob12345 · 14/06/2017 15:46

Well you're not skinny, you are a bit overweight. I don't think you've taken it at a flattering angle though!

I don't think you need to lose weight as much, more lose fat.

Iloveanimals · 14/06/2017 15:46

You're not fat. Your position does nothing to flatter you though.

Nancy91 · 14/06/2017 15:46

Yeah you look like you have a fairly high body fat percentage, but everyone looks worse from that angle!

PeaFaceMcgee · 14/06/2017 15:48

Yeah it's the worst angle, but as for 'toning', that is fat there, on top of muscle and I think I have more to lose...

Yes Queen - have led a fairly sedentary lifestyle for 15 years and now started doing 30 mins of exercise a day, plus reduced portion sizes and less snacking.

Have lost half a stone in last few weeks.

If your BMI is 19 you're nearly underweight. You've taken the photo hunched over in the most unflattering way possible that will bunch any fat. How about a picture standing straight up, front on?
Human bodies need some fat on them to live. You need some self esteem, not weightloss.

PaperdollCartoon · 14/06/2017 15:49

NewJob are you really saying someone with a BMI of 19 is overweight?!

ScarlettFreestone · 14/06/2017 15:49

I don't think you need to lose weight either Pea particularly if your BMI comes out at 19.

It's not a flattering angle but you look fine.

If you are unhappy with your silhouette you'd be better to focus on toning up rather than losing weight.

PeaFaceMcgee · 14/06/2017 15:50

I honestly think that loosing this body fat will send me under a BMI of 18.

Will post standing up pic in a mo

OP posts:
ALemonyPea · 14/06/2017 15:51

We'd need to see a standing up,photo to make an informed decision. My stomach does that when I sit down, looks a lot flatter when I'm stood up.

PeaFaceMcgee · 14/06/2017 15:51

But how can you tone up fat?

OP posts:
UndersecretaryofWhimsy · 14/06/2017 15:51

Well, you aren't toned, and that isn't a flattering angle. But I would have a higher threshold for the word 'fat'. I think this is more about getting active than losing weight. If you're highly sedentary then that could do with changing no matter what you weigh. In fact, I'm only averagely informed on this and could well be wrong, but I wonder if your BMI is low in part because you have low levels of muscle mass.

HildaOg · 14/06/2017 15:52

19 is perfectly healthy, you could do with a bit of strength training, a strong abdominal wall will make you look slimmer and flatter but it also prevents back and hip problems in later life.

BreezyBreeze · 14/06/2017 15:52

We'd all look fat at that angle!
Post a pic from a more normal angle

KoalaDownUnder · 14/06/2017 15:52

Almost anyone has rolls if they hunch over like that, though!

needastrongone · 14/06/2017 15:53

OP, give us your measurements for BMI if you don't mind.

My BMI is 20, I'm 5ft and 7st 5. I'm very slight cos I distance run, and do look lighter than you, so that's strange. Not comparing promise, just confused.

Self esteem is a brilliant thing, well done on your weight loss. Being fit and toned helps tons with that. Smile

VladmirsPoutine · 14/06/2017 15:54

Well, how tall are you and how much do you weigh? Confused

PeaFaceMcgee · 14/06/2017 15:55

Oh, the bra is a Curvy Kate and pants are Tesco to who asked :)
