I am fat, AIBU?

To show how ridiculous the BMI calculator is... My BMI is 19, yet look at the state of my body fat!

Sick of being told I don't need to lose weight as I'm 'skinny'.

AIBU to think that I am indeed too fat?

I'm a size 8 and reasonable toned but if I hunched over and stuck my stomach out like you have then I'd look exactly the same.

needastrongone · 14/06/2017 15:56

Vlad, bloody autocorrect GrinGrin

gandalfspants · 14/06/2017 15:57

OP I have a similar belly, I'm not overweight (but far from 'fit').

I'm blaming the baby these days (9mo), even though it was there before!

Ratatatouille · 14/06/2017 15:57

I'm not saying that this is what's happening with you, OP, but some posters need to consider the possibility that someone with a BMI of 19 posting a photo from a very odd angle which seems to be the most unflattering that they could manage, and encouraging people to confirm that they are 'fat' could possibly indicate somebody with body dysmorphia/an eating disorder looking for validation. Again, I'm not saying that's you OP. I just think people need to engage their brain before commenting.

I think it's an unflattering angle certainly, but you don't look fat and with a BMI of 19 it's not possible for you to be overweight.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 14/06/2017 15:57

You can't tone up fat, but you can convert it into muscle through exercise. That's probably your best bet if you want to lose the last bits of flab. I think your body looks perfectly healthy though.

Have you had DC? If so be aware that the skin doesn't always ping back, so what you perceive as fat may actually just be excess skin (which is not correctable through diet or exercise unfortunately).

WellTidy · 14/06/2017 15:57

I look like you. I am a size 10, 12 at a push, and my BMI is about 20-21.I am short, and weigh just under 9 stone. Nobody would look at me, clothed, and say I needed to lose weight. But I am podgy, and I am very untoned. I think my BMI comes out at what it does because my frame is naturally very small, I'd say I was a natural size 8. The extra weight that is on me is untoned flab and I would also say that I have low muscle mass as I haven't done additional exercise, above lots of walking, for years.

notanevilstepmother · 14/06/2017 15:57

If you are that bothered do some sit ups.

All female bodies carry some fat, it is healthy and necessary.

It's impossible to say much from the ridiculous angle of that photo, but if your BMI is 19 I think you are not fat.

Virtually all the pictures you see day in and day out are photoshopped and not real women.

TatterdemalionAspie · 14/06/2017 15:59

You couldn't have picked a worse position/angle to take a picture of. Is this so that when you post a proper photo you can revel in everyone telling you how slim you are? Hmm

queen your donut autocorrect fail made me Grin! 🍩

WellTidy · 14/06/2017 15:59

I take it back OP!!. On seeing the pix of you standing up, I don't look like you at all! I have much more of a belly. It was just the camera angle for you, I think.

rightsofwomen · 14/06/2017 15:59

Are you sure your BMI is 19?

PeaFaceMcgee · 14/06/2017 15:59

Ridiculous 34FF boobs on this tiny frame - I'm 5'10" and currently 9st 10. Before the age of 25 I was far more active, good diet and naturally hovered around 9st or just under. I really feel that's my 'norm' but others are a bit horrified as it's 'underweight' by BMI.

OP posts:
rightsofwomen · 14/06/2017 16:01

Ah soz, didn't see the standing up one.

PeaFaceMcgee · 14/06/2017 16:02

Have you had DC?

Yes, 1, 7.5 years ago. But had the belly fat prior to pregnancy.

VeryButchyRestingFace · 14/06/2017 16:02

Your standing pose looks like a perfectly normal, healthy body shape to me. Confused

You're not concave, but that's hardly something to be coveted, is it?

PeaFaceMcgee · 14/06/2017 16:03

I can literally still grab half a handful even when standing.

OP posts:
NewDayDawning · 14/06/2017 16:04

I'd kill for your figure.

You aren't overweight, but perhaps need to tone your tummy a bit?

KatharinaRosalie · 14/06/2017 16:04

'Skinny fat' is a thing - someone with low weight but relatively large % of fat. Instead of thinking about losing weight, you could benefit from weight training, to increase the % of musles and reduce fat.

PeaFaceMcgee · 14/06/2017 16:05

I guess I deliberately chose the camera angle to illustrate how much body fat I still have to lose, despite hurtling towards the lower end of the BMI scale.

Really interested in all your opinions. I have such an odd body that's hard to dress, given the big boobs and I have a scoliosis too.

WoofWoofMooWoof · 14/06/2017 16:06

That's your mummy tummy! Be proud of it she says looking down at her twin pregnancy mummy tummy in disgust. Grin

PeaFaceMcgee · 14/06/2017 16:06

Thanks KatharinaRosalie - I had been thinking weights, but worried of back injury. Was bedbound for 4 months following birth due to disc injury.

OP posts:
PeaFaceMcgee · 14/06/2017 16:07

Thanks Woof Grin

WooWooSister · 14/06/2017 16:08

You're not fat. If you're concerned about your belly then you need to focus on toning/abs/weights exercises.
If people in RL are horrified at the thought of you going down to 9st then I think you should listen to them.

Groupie123 · 14/06/2017 16:09

I agree with you about BMI. It is misleading. People at supposedly normal/low BMIs often are that way because of a lot of fat (rather than muscle) weight. You can improve that though with a strength plan.

notanevilstepmother · 14/06/2017 16:10

Nothing is real...

PeaFaceMcgee · 14/06/2017 16:10

Well, some people woo. Others remember when I was slim and healthy 9st prior to the age of 25 and are more encouraging, but it's technically clinically underweight.
