I hope someone is following his Twitter account.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 17/05/2017 02:26

I think the GOP is turning. I don't know how the end will play out though - his core base are fervent supporters and there aren't any "current" polls as new, harmful information against the administration is being uncovered thick and fast.

ohfourfoxache · 17/05/2017 02:28

That's my gut feeling too Cozie - I think his ego is too monstrous to allow him to resign. I think he'll have to either be dragged kicking and screaming or in a box.

I just wish there seemed to be more progress on impeachment (unless there is something else that could happen?)

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 17/05/2017 02:28

This was at the weekend and so much has happened since then!

Erick Erickson @EWErickson
Scoop: GOP polling over the weekend shifted against them in Montana and Georgia. National GOP starting to worry.

cozietoesie · 17/05/2017 02:29

I suspected that they'd conducted polls.

CaveMum · 17/05/2017 02:29

Wow, watching the Sally Yates interview and she's just said that it's her understanding that the Department of Justice was told not to inform/consult her on the Travel Ban EO Shock That's the acting AG of the USA being deliberately left out of the loop by the Wdministration.

She says the first she knew of the EO was when a deputy in her office called her to say he'd seen something online.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 17/05/2017 02:30

But on the flip side (although we know how reliable the white House is):

She is incredible.

ohfourfoxache · 17/05/2017 02:31

Fucking hell, is information like that really being restricted Ear? So the public really aren't getting to know about anything negative?

TheClaws · 17/05/2017 02:31

Trump underestimated Comey bigly. His own arrogance is undoing him. How can you seriously try to outsmart an FBI Director with decades of experience? Clue: don't.

cozietoesie · 17/05/2017 02:34

No. I fear that some sectors of the US population only tune to Fox & Friends. They're presented with a completely different story. (And if they watch Infowars.....................)

ohfourfoxache · 17/05/2017 02:35

That really is quite terrifying Sad

Sarah Westwood @ sarahcwestwood
.@FoxNews reporting on the air now that they can't get a Republican member on the air right now to defend Trump

It seems that he's done so much already that is questionable at the very least, and yet he's been sworn in and he's still there?

Trump is a useful idiot for the Republicans. They were happy to have a blind eye as he was doing all their dirty work that they have dreamt for years of doing. They enabled him.

The issue now is Trump is no longer in control of the crazy house and public opinion even in people who voted for Trump has collapsed.

Trump was never popular but people were prepared to "give him a chance". Trump is now starting to turn toxic to the Republicans rather than be an asset to them and attention and calls for leadership are starting to fall on their shoulders because Trump is effectively no longer running the show as the crisis spirals out of his ability to contain it.

Basically the net is closing and there isn't much place else to run. Trump still could survive but if the pressure doesn't let up and the media keep on the right story rather than allow Trump to distract with smoke and mirrors which is what he's done this far, then something will give. It's this mastery of the art of distraction that has allowed him to survive this long. Create another outrageous story and the media loose focus on the real story. Now the real story is so outrageous it's becoming impossible to take your eyes - or the media column inches - off it.

As I say, it's still possible Trump WILL survive yet. But the tipping point of no return is either close or we have now passed. It's all down to what the Republicans do next. Not what Trump does next. Which is a big change.

All In w/Chris Hayes @allinwithchris

Even by the standards of the chaos and drama of the Trump presidency, it has been a remarkable nine days. t.co/tMeHYKy89s?amp=1

cozietoesie · 17/05/2017 02:39

I just tuned in to Infowars, actually. In the interests of mumble.

Strewth.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 17/05/2017 02:39

Yes I think you're right red. He has been dealing with each crisis by creating another but it's unsustainable and I think it's on the brink of collapsing under the weight
of all the scandals.

ohfourfoxache · 17/05/2017 02:43

I got the impression that he did exactly the same with Hillary - ie whenever there was media coverage about her, he made it all about him by making some ridiculous statement or bonkers move.

So what is the general Republican feeling about Pence? Is he supported or is he just too close to Trump for them to see him as a viable option?

cozietoesie · 17/05/2017 02:44

Oh he's viable all right.

And he wants the job, I think.

cozietoesie · 17/05/2017 02:46

Must go to bed.

RedToothBrush · 17/05/2017 02:46

Source close to WH says DC outrage directed at the president over Comey memo may be useful with his supporters: "Only helps us."

Certain people close to Trump want civil war or unrest.

The whole Fox Deep State thing plays to that. If the CIA or FBI or any other agency move against Trump they think conspiracy. Therefore civil unrest.

Then stuff like could martial law be declared. If it is, would people follow orders? What would happen.

Bannon on record as staying he wants complete chaos. And if course if Russia really are involved, so do they - it's text book strategy and similar to Ukraine. Infiltrate, stir up domestic feeling, let it explode.

IC also aware of this. This is why what Republican party do important. They want to break them to minimise risk of that type of thing.

Trump will not resign. Now will he allow himself to be arrested. Remember he has private bodyguard loyal to him and not the state. If state come for him you have a volatile situation right there.

Don't underestimate how dangerous the current situation is. It's been deliberately constructed in this way to protect Trump from cheques and balances as he considers himself above them and the law.

ohfourfoxache · 17/05/2017 02:46

Oh fuck - I've not heard good things about Pence. Please tell me he's better than the current clown?

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 17/05/2017 02:47

Will the fact that as the head of the transition team, he was informed by Elijah Cummings about flynn and still maintained he was misled be enough to bring him down?

RedToothBrush · 17/05/2017 02:49

*Nor will he allow himself to be arrested.

YESTERDAY: Story is false

TODAY: Story is true, Trump conduct "wholly appropriate"

Laurence Tribe @tribelaw
No surprise there: the "true/false" distinction is a social construct in a Bannon/Conway/Trump world dedicated to deconstructing everything
