How can you have a tape of something not happening?

Well, experts could probably detect if it had been cut out.

But the mere existence of a tape by the Russians is worrying, IMO, unless it was authorised.

cozietoesie · 17/05/2017 13:07

The Russians taping inside the OO - and 45 unwilling to confirm a practice of routine taping himself?

It won't play well in the heartland.

Surely US can't have another 3 years 8 months of Trump. It is a farce and the President is an abomination. Tick tock tick tock.

Orlantina · 17/05/2017 13:57

Have people ever seen A Clear and Present Danger by Tom Clancy

Basically, the President wants to get rid of drug dealers in Columbia and uses his NSA staff to fight them illegally. The NSA staff cover their backs with memos and have things in writing.

Except Jack Ryan (Harrison Ford). He doesn't know what's going on but finds out. The President tries to get him on side but Jack Ryan testifies to Congress.

Jack Ryan and Comey have a lot in common.

I'll just show you the ending.

ITN lunchtime news just mentioned the impeach word, said it was being discussed openly?

Gumpendorf · 17/05/2017 14:16

I don't think he is, Lweji. It sounds as if he's tired of the game and wants to finish it.

If Putin wants to finish it, he means get to the point where Trump can do his bidding unhampered by all that nasty democratic paraphernalia like investigations, a free press and an opposition. Putin is probably frustrated that Trump hasn't made much progress in that direction.

I was just catching up on Maddow from Monday and was struck by the sequence of events she outlined:
April 30th Trump reverts to old argument that it wasn't the Russians who hacked the election.
May 2 Trump speaks with Putin and Putin asks personally for Lavrov and Kislyak to be entertained in Oval Office.

May 8 Yates testimony
May 9 Comey fired
May 11 Lavrov and Kislyak meet Trump like old friends in the Oval. The meeting was closed to US press and Kislyak was not on any press release so his meeting with Trump would have been concealed if it was not for the TASS pictures. bad move Vlad Just as Kislyak's meetings with Flynn, Sessions, and Kushner were concealed in the transition. Not from Maddow, but I've read elsewhere that Kislyak would be Trump's handler. Trump reveals highly confidential and highly sensitive information.

There's also stuff about the Abu Dhabi prince who was in the Oval on Monday being a go between between Trump and Putin.

All Putin wants is to pull the strings. He probably also wants Trump to do an Erdogan and eliminate his opposition. Erdogan's visit was timely.

And we now know that Trump is trying to shut down the many investigations and wondering about jailing journalists for reporting leaks. Fox is obsessing about the Deep State opposition. It sounds melodramatic but this really is a battle for the Republic.

cozietoesie · 17/05/2017 14:17

The markets are - temporarily perhaps - heading south.

cozietoesie · 17/05/2017 14:20

I don't think it's overly melodramatic.

Embroiled in controversies, Trump seeks boost on foreign trip

Conversations with some officials who have briefed Trump and others who are aware of how he absorbs information portray a president with a short attention span.

He likes single-page memos and visual aids like maps, charts, graphs and photos.

National Security Council officials have strategically included Trump's name in "as many paragraphs as we can because he keeps reading if he's mentioned," according to one source, who relayed conversations he had with NSC officials.

Trump likes to look at a map of the country involved when he learns about a topic.

"He likes to visualize things," said a senior administration official. "The guy's a builder. He has spent his whole life looking at architectural renderings and floor plans."

The President of the United States needs serious government reports to be like one page long and have lots of pictures with his name in it repeatedly.

Absorb that for a second. This make makes decisions about massively complex issues that affect us all. No wonder he's anti-environmental issues, and anti refugees and anti-vax if the man is incapable of even reading, never mind understand a proper briefing on a subject.

Sorry, this is from The Hill: Dem lawmaker will call for Trump's Impeachment on House Floor

AcrossthePond55 · 17/05/2017 14:36

I'm glad someone is actually calling for impeachment, but in reality it's just a gesture. It doesn't require any action or response. No debate, not vote. The GOP's response will simply be 'yeah, whatever, now sit down'.

But at least somebody is saying something.

Roussette · 17/05/2017 14:37

Red Great minds! I was just about to copy and paste exactly that!

It is unfuckingbelievable that DT cannot absorb or even try to read anything unless his name keeps showing up.

Oh that SWAMP act link is marvellous:

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) has formally introduced a bill into Congress that would require Trump to reimburse the government for funds spent on travel to his own properties, such as Mar-a-Lago in Florida and the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, NJ.

Lieu’s bill, the Stop Waste and Misuse by the President (SWAMP) Act, states that Trump’s travel “results in the American taxpayer effectively subsidizing the president’s businesses.” The bill would also require that Trump reimburse the government for Secret Service costs derived from visits to his properties.

cozietoesie · 17/05/2017 14:40

I think that that's the thing, Across. It forces the word back into common parlance.
