To be really angry at this pretentious woman?

She was interviewed on radio about voting in the election, sounded like a young lass. She said "my vote will be based on discussions I've had with my parents".

It's fucked me right off and I feel angry whenever I think about it

I don't get it

FluffyBathTowel · 06/05/2017 14:12

What exactly did you find pretentious about that comment? I don't quite get it.

LadyPW · 06/05/2017 14:12

[confused}

LadyPW · 06/05/2017 14:12

Don't you hate it when that happens!
Confused

HallowedMimic · 06/05/2017 14:13

Do you know what 'pretentious' means OP?

Tw1nsetAndPearls · 06/05/2017 14:13

Why has that made you angry?

ChairoftheBored · 06/05/2017 14:13

Eh?

Shockers · 06/05/2017 14:13

I don't understand.

She said discussed. She didn't say I'll follow my parents blindly to the polling station, did she?

Aren't parents allowed to discuss politics with their voting age offspring?

LemonRedwood · 06/05/2017 14:14

What's pretentious about it and why does someone having a discussion with their parents make you angry?

fruitbats · 06/05/2017 14:15

Why has it annoyed you?

I dont get it?

Maybe her parents are really into poltics but have differing views so its a good all round discussion

Zhan · 06/05/2017 14:17

It was just the way she said it. All smug and snotty.

Her exact words were "my vote will be based on discussions I've had with my parents, not what I actually think".

OP posts:
TheNewSchmoo · 06/05/2017 14:18

Well that's a massive sweeping change isn't it!

LemonRedwood · 06/05/2017 14:18

Why didn't you put the full quote in your op?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/05/2017 14:19

There are billions of women out there. Who are you talking aboutConfused, and more to the point. What did she say

Asmoto · 06/05/2017 14:20

I still don't see why it's 'pretentious' even with the addition to the quote.

LedaP · 06/05/2017 14:21

Did she say that?

Or have you added that in because no one agreed?

Its a bit daft to do that. But not pretentious

ClaudiaWankleman · 06/05/2017 14:21

It's not pretentious. She's had a discussion with her parents and together they have obviously decided to vote for the party that they collectively think is the best. What on earth is pretentious about that?

Zhan · 06/05/2017 14:22

I meant to put the whole quote but I was rushing as my phone was dying. I realise it changes the dynamics of what she said so apologies.

Personally I'm a Tory supporter but my son is a member of the lib dems. I don't agree with his views but I'm glad he has them!

OP posts:
BreconBeBuggered · 06/05/2017 14:23

By 'pretentious', do you mean 'wilfully compliant', OP?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/05/2017 14:24

At least she's voting, the process she uses to decide her allegiance is nothing to do with anyone else.

Plus vox pops are only broadcast if they are particularly inane

user1471545174 · 06/05/2017 14:24

It's not pretentious as such, but she doesn't sound very bright if she can't formulate her own thoughts yet.

Zhan · 06/05/2017 14:25

No she was pretentious in the way that she spoke.
