To be really angry at this pretentious woman?

She was interviewed on radio about voting in the election, sounded like a young lass. She said "my vote will be based on discussions I've had with my parents".

It's fucked me right off and I feel angry whenever I think about it

Op YABU to get angry about this comment.

I have tried not to influence the party political allegiances of my children. Because I myself was brought up in a political environment and only slowly had my eyes opened to other's viewpoints by experience and being open to listening to other people's experiences.

But if a young person is asking their parents opinion as they value it I don't see that as a bad thing.

MichaelSheensNextDW · 06/05/2017 15:54

Were you infuriated by hearing an articulate, well-spoken young woman?
Are you projecting an uncomfortable feeling of envy onto her?

user1493022461 · 06/05/2017 16:07

That is the exact opposite definition of pretentious, OP Hmm

FrenchLavender · 06/05/2017 16:15

'Personally I'm a Tory supporter'

Gosh, I am very sorry to hear that. I hope you get better soon.

Last time I looked it was the Labour Party and their supporters who had one foot in the grave and were flailing around in their death throes. I Think you'll find we Tory voters are pretty hail and hearty right now, but thanks for the faux concern.

ilovesooty · 06/05/2017 16:17

Doesn't take much to get you worked up obviously. It must make life difficult.
And how on earth you can ask AIBU when we're not you and mostly haven't heard it anyway is beyond me.

UppityHumpty · 06/05/2017 16:18

Most young people take their parents lead on important stuff. At least she's voting

working925 · 06/05/2017 16:21

How on earth can you be angry??? You must have other things in life to worry about surely???

Imstickingwiththisone · 06/05/2017 16:29

Made me laugh that you were so angry that you had to hurry to post your OP before your phone's battery died!

Then i read another post in response which said their DH is super brainy and knows everything about politics but would never influence someone's decision and also got irrationally annoyed. Seriously why do you think anyone else would give a shite about your DH

ChippersAndRunt · 06/05/2017 16:37

There's nothing wrong with being a Tory. My husband is a Tory. And so are his parents... My father used to be a conservative politican back home... Does this mean I shouldn't be allowed to value his opinion/be a conservative?

And what's wrong with valuing her parents opinion? Or acknowledging that her parents simply know better (in this case)? There's nothing pretentious about this. It actually seems quite humble to me personally...

I don't understand why you're angry.

ChippersAndRunt · 06/05/2017 16:38

*back home (=not in the UK)

It's going to be a bloody tiring election campaign if we get threads like this every day for the next 32 days Grin I don't know. It's given me a bloody good laugh. These vague obtuse OPs always do.

User99573864 · 06/05/2017 17:06

I vote the same way as my parents, we were bought up in similar ways, share similar views on life, is it odd that I have a lot in common with two people whose DNA I share, whose roof I lived under for 18 years?
