Said by 60 yr old white male school staff to 14 yr old white upper mc boy:

"Take your hoodie down, it's against the dress code - you'll grow up to become a rapper".

It's just nonsense, isn't it?

portico · 13/04/2017 13:32

What's an MC boy?

youngestisapsycho · 13/04/2017 13:33

It's more 'hoodist' really Grin

portico · 13/04/2017 13:33

I agree it's nonsense. Not racist as you have rappers of all ethnic groups.

youngestisapsycho · 13/04/2017 13:33

I'm really hoping it doesn't mean middle class?!

SayNoToCarrots · 13/04/2017 13:34

It's not racist. It's stupid. Rapper does not equate to a particular ethnicity.

Evelight · 13/04/2017 13:34

middle-class?

It is nonsense. But I mean, wtf??

the other thing, these kids, AFAIK, idolize "these rappers". Telling them they'll grow up to be a rapper if they do X (such as wear a hoodie??) is a sure fire thing to get them to do it.

Unpropergrammer · 13/04/2017 13:34

It's questionable. What's so wrong with being a rapper anyway, most of them earn more than I do.

Aridane · 13/04/2017 13:35

isn't he just joshing?

pinkie1982 · 13/04/2017 13:35

Umm no, not racist.
Can we make up the term clothesist??

TheCutOfYourJib · 13/04/2017 13:36

No it's not racist. Rappers exist in lots of different colours!

CakesAreBiscuitsToo · 13/04/2017 13:36

I think it's kind of funny.

Given who said it, it's probably meant to be more classist than racist.

harderandharder2breathe · 13/04/2017 13:36

Stupid thing to say, considering successful rappers earn far more what a teacher earns!

RebootYourEngine · 13/04/2017 13:36

Who said that it was racist?

Evelight · 13/04/2017 13:36

But rapping is associated mostly with black people- at least it used to be. I know there the odd famous non-black ones. But still.

MiddleClassProblem · 13/04/2017 13:36

Not racist. And not much of a threat...

feathermucker · 13/04/2017 13:37

Relevance of white upper mc even being mentioned?!

Not racist.

TheCutOfYourJib · 13/04/2017 13:37

You're being more racist by thinking its racist !

Bringbackpublicfloggings · 13/04/2017 13:37

Sounds like he was trying to tell him off but be cool about it.. maybe.

RatherBeRiding · 13/04/2017 13:37

Think I'd be quietly chuffed if my DS had grown up to be M&M!

Evelight · 13/04/2017 13:38

Maybe he was joking around- I was told the exchange out of context, as in "can you believe what this guy at school said??"

OP posts:
CakesAreBiscuitsToo · 13/04/2017 13:39

Relevance of white upper mc even being mentioned?!

Don't you have to mention the race of a person to discuss racism of their comments?

But UMC not necessary info unless you want to align UMC with "racist"

Evelight · 13/04/2017 13:39

@TheCut: And you're being more racist by thinking that I thought it was racist!!

OP posts:
MiddleClassProblem · 13/04/2017 13:39

So you think he's saying put your hoodie down or you'll become black? Hmm

I'm not sure that's how it works, love. If anything he's being the opposite of racist in not identifying rapping with skin colour unlike you.

kathkim · 13/04/2017 13:39

It's rapperist. Not all rappers have hoodies.
