To douche with tea tree oil before a smear test?!

Was talking with friends today. I have a smear soon. Just mentioned I was going to pick up some tea-tree oil on the way home. They asked what it was for so I told them I douche before these appointments.

I occasionally do it after sex too. In fact I try not to have sex in the few days leading up to an internal.

They were Shock.

Now I feel weird Blush To me, it's like giving my teeth an extra good brush, flossing, mouthwash before seeing dentist. Just preparing myself, you know?

A lot of women in the US seem to have this as part of their regular routine.

By the way, I've been doing this for a few years now and no gynae problems so far.

Wtaf? You're following the advice of random women on the internet???? Whatever next 😂😂😂😂. Seriously though sounds bit weird/gross/unnecessary

I'm an American, living in the US. While they do still sell douche kits in supermarkets, it's widely known that the medical community recommends not douching at all. I feel fairly certain it's a minority number that still do it.

Tea tree is far too strong. If you really feel you must, just do plain water. My eyes cross at the idea of putting tea tree oil up there!

jbee1979 · 12/04/2017 20:43

I wouldn't douche with tea tree oil, even well diluted, because of what everyone says above about annoying the natural bacteria.

BUT when I was pregnant I went to the chemist for a pessary for thrush and they wouldn't sell it to me. I was demented! After consulting Dr Google, because the doctor was closed over Easter, I read that a couple of drops in a jug of lukewarm water would help. The advice was to pour over the lady bits while sitting on the loo and pat dry. OMG the relief was fantastic and it helped until I could speak to the GP.

The moral of the story is, my lady bits didn't fall off, and it didn't sting, and it helped with thrush - although didn't cure it.

OMG how diluted is this tea tree oil? You aren't using it neat, are you?! You can safely use essential oils, MASSIVELY diluted (as in 1 drop per 100ml of distilled water) to wipe EXTERNALLY to help thrush and cystitis. I really don't think it's a good idea to use them internally. You could really burn yourself, not to mention giving yourself thrush if you didn't already have it.

You must have an asbestos vagina. It would burn most peoples.

Why would you clean something that is self cleaning. You dont douche out your rectum.

It could skew test results.

WillWorkForShoes · 12/04/2017 21:09

patter about how beautiful my cervix is is used on every single one of us

My nurse said this to me. I thought I was special. Now it looks like it was just a line!

QueenofPentacles · 12/04/2017 21:19

I think you are wise not to have sex AFTER an internal for a bit... but as for douching with tea tree, that went out with the Ark. It is too strong and you are not advised to us it there any more.

QueenofPentacles · 12/04/2017 21:20

PS it could alter your test results too, they won't be testing
for Tea Tree!

floraeasy · 12/04/2017 21:26

Do you know what? I never thought about it skewing the results. I thought I might get people saying it's not good for you and stuff, but stupidly I never thought about the results being messed up!!!!!!!!!

There's going to be some very confused nurses having a natter after your test.

"It was really weird Betty, her fanjo smelt of flowers!" Grin

GruffaloPants · 12/04/2017 21:29

WTF? Leave your vagina alone. It isn't dirty. Sex isn't dirty. If you have daughters please think carefully about what this sort of shit tells them about their bodies.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 12/04/2017 21:29

Ooooh OP. That's making me wince just thinking about it.

Please stop tea treeing your nether regions.

SuperBeagle · 12/04/2017 21:31

Verrrrrry odd.

EleanorRigbysNeice · 12/04/2017 21:39

OP, your foof is like a self-cleaning oven. Leave it alone 😐

floraeasy · 12/04/2017 21:49

My oven's filthy.

Weren't Kim + Aggie always cleaning with tea-tree oil? And lemons? Grin

skerrywind · 12/04/2017 21:50

Sounds disgusting OP.

floraeasy · 12/04/2017 21:54

I should spend the time I'll save on douching on cleaning my oven. It's only a tabletop but I'm so lazy!

OP posts:
cherish123 · 12/04/2017 21:58

I did not know the fanny was self cleaning!

GrumpyDullard · 12/04/2017 22:01

If you're concerned about the smell from a jizzy vadge: isn't that what scented pant liners were invented for?

GrumpyDullard · 12/04/2017 22:01

I wish I had a self-cleaning oven. And house.
