AIBU?

To think current fashion is f*cking hideous?

Probably BU but I went shopping the other week as I needed a few tops. I saw:
Bright yellow playsuits
Hideous tops with the shoulders cut out
Skirts that look more like belts
Jeans with so many rips that they are indecent
Tops that aren't even decent (too short)
Cardigans with no sleeves (why, you wear a cardigan if it's cold surely)
AIBU to think that it's hideous and nobody would want to be seen dead in it?

See, I like cold shoulder tops (sorry) for several reasons: I have nice shoulders but also not nice bingo wings. I am also usually sporting several bruises (from karate) which just aren't attractive. Add to these two the fact that I get very hot very quickly and sweat a lot (good god I'm lovely Grin) and the cold shoulder top= a bit of coolness when I need it.

However. When you pair a cold shoulder top with frills, and get this monstrosity www.topshop.com/en/tsuk/product/stripe-ruffle-shirt-6167050?geoip=noredirect&cmpid=ppc_pla_UK_ip&utm_medium=cpc&tsrc=vdna&istCompanyId=38aa0d7f-6514-4cb3-bbdc-df0d32d48b7f&istItemId=xitwwpmral&istBid=tztx&gclid=CJXY-YXVldMCFaIL0wodC30FEg&gclsrc=aw.ds it's definitely time to take a step back...

PoorYorrick
I'm a skinny jean fan but recently bought a pair of flares - flares! - from TKMaxx. Lovely cut, low rise, baggy bottoms. Viva la 90s and my baggy indie phase.

Bell bottom sleeves (no doubt made from all the spare bits of fabric from cold shoulder tops)

I loved those combats with a bit of pretty embroidery on, so nice to wear! And straight leg trousers, so flattering on me. Just glad I'm old enough to not be bothered by trendy clothes any more. ( tho I do like to look nice ) Smile

Agree - the cut out shoulder tops are hideous and they are EVERYWHERE

I was in town today and thought that I was frumpy for not buying these clothes. I walked past H and M and questioned why anyone would dress the window mannequins in such durgey crap. Very uninspiring. I thought it was a sign I was truly getting old (I'm 34). I ended up buying some sensible shoes from Clarks in the end.

I have got to the point that in my mind, only anyone under 25 cares about fashion and the rest really could not care less from what I see around town. I rarely see anyone over 25 that looks like they are from a magazine, although some ladies do nail the very casual look. If I ever buy anything remotely dressy it remains firmly in my wardrobe unworn. Having a 2 year old means no nights out and no dressing up.

I've given up now.

I've also been looking for a lightweight summer jacket. I came across a denim jacket with frilled sleeves

Denim should never be frilled

Learn to make your own clothes. Sooo much better if you can get the time. You can pick patterns that you actually like and that suit you regardless of what fashion happens to be providing this week. Plus you can use actual nice fabrics that don't itch and won't fall apart so fast. Less stress and probably cheaper in the end than having to keep replacing last season's worn out tat with whatever looks least rubbish this season.

Saw what I thought was a very pretty top (it had butterflies on and everything!). When I tried it, it had hideous puffy sleeves from the elbow to the wrist

Bought a hideous t shirt with rips everywhere. One of the rips was exactly at the height of my flabby belly area. The colour was a kind of corset pink. Doubt I will ever wear it again.

And only thing worse than those nasty cut-out shoulders is those hideous "harem" pants that made the wearer look as though they had filled their nappy!

The cut out shoulder thing is HORRIBLE.

Thanks, I needed a laugh ! That shirt Shock

This is why I find myself increasingly enjoying John Lewis. They have their own brand clothes which seem sensible from my experience to date. I know it makes me dull and middle aged but I don't care ! Gin

PoorYorick I've been buying this pair of jeans from Gap for over a decade. Skinnies look awful on me too (tall with big hips and bum) and these are the most flattering comfy jeans ever and don't look tooooo mumsy. I feel your pain!

So disappointed was I at what was on offer, I resorted earlier to buying three men's t-shirts so I have something vaguely new/summery to wear. No frills, no peplum, no rips, no sign of sleeve weirdness going on. Not sure what I'm going to wear Out Out but at least these'll do for some stuff I suppose. Feeling your pain OP.

My wardrobe is stuffed to the gills and I haven't noticed the latest trends became I'm much more likely to find stuff that suits me in a charity shop.

I made the mistake of opening the link for Country Collection Shock . I'm not quite ready to rock that look!

OK anyone looking to buy a nice pair of jeans, I got a great pair from fatface recently, they are straight leg, nice shade of blue and sooo comfy! I am living in them.

But yes there is an awful lot of tat in the shops at the moment.

What IS it with jackets at the moment? Choice seems limited to sweaty plastic biker jackets, bomber jackets in lurid prints or hideous floppy 'waterfall' jacket monstrosities. Sigh.

I was just about to post a thread about exactly this.

Going into Next at Christmas was like walking into a production of Abigail's Party. Fucking awful 70s fabrics and dreadful styles.

Quite like the light denim though so I popped into New Look earlier for a shirt. I could only find cold shoulder monstrosities and this...

I mean, WTF? What bra would possibly work with this? The model actually looks embarrassed

To think current fashion is f*cking hideous?

Haven't been able to buy a new top in a long long time because for ages everything seemed to have such a big neck and I don't like that. It's left me only able to go in somewhere like J D Sports which is well out of my price range normally

Holy fuck. That is more Topshock than Topshop. If I wore that, the most likely remark from my OH would be "WTF. Have you lost your mind? You look like some bizarre hipster t*".

Which is why I might consider wearing it to his christmas party.
