AIBU?

To think current fashion is f*cking hideous?

Probably BU but I went shopping the other week as I needed a few tops. I saw:
Bright yellow playsuits
Hideous tops with the shoulders cut out
Skirts that look more like belts
Jeans with so many rips that they are indecent
Tops that aren't even decent (too short)
Cardigans with no sleeves (why, you wear a cardigan if it's cold surely)
AIBU to think that it's hideous and nobody would want to be seen dead in it?

I want sleeveless linen tops that cover my bum! Not in the major shopping centre by me! There are some online but I hate the faff of sending them back as they never look like they do in the picture! I feel your pain!

Haha this is the third thread on MN about this at the moment ( one started by me ), so yes I agree with you! Hopefully when the clothes don't sell, the shops will get some decent stuff in...

YANBU. Horrible bright colours, horrible sweaty polyester fabrics. Agree with PP re bad taste nights.

Cold shoulder tops are just horrific

Stepping into topshop today is like stepping into it in my teens! I hated most of it then. Could be worse have we had the satin dresses and wrapover skirts yet, worn with cropped jersey vest top?

I'm older than you op and not worried about being labelled frumpy so my shops have changed I'm now firmly in the fat face, monsoon and Boden camp and I don't care. Comfy jersey dresses and long skirts with Cami tops. Suits me just fine. Grin

Totally agree. Luckily I tend to live my life in jodhpurs or gym clothes so don't have to pick through all the hideous, shapeless polyester shite that is fashion at the moment.

I hate it when they look nice from the front then you check the back nod find some cut out bit which would show your bra, or a hideous bright gold zip or something on an otherlovelynlovely work suitable dress, but the gold zip makes it trashy and not suitable for work!

Problem is, clothes seem to have been stuck in a rut for a good few years now and I guess since the purpose of fashion is to sell units, sometimes the designers have to change things up which they certainly have done this season! Only problem is, it's hideous. Don't they realise that most women who have money to spend on clothes are older and not a size 8...?

YANBU, I feel the same. Hate going clothes shopping now, it's all hideous, so I shall be reduced to trawling the charity shops until someone with some sense starts selling decent clothes again.

Totally agree. Wide leg trousers calf length? Hate cut out shoulder tops. Hate frayed edges. Embroidery is ok to a point but it's hideous. Nothing has shape. No sophistication! I'll be in my old unfashionable outfits for now!

This is why I shop designer on ebay - second hand prices are often cheaper than the high street as well. Designers like Nicole Farhi have a signature look and don't stray too far from it.

agree trinity, obvious zips are bloody horrible & as for day-glo orange/coral tops - WTF's that all about? - looks cheap & nasty Hmm

men's fashion's not much better - thank goodness DS19 hates those silly skinny jeans - they all look like Max Wall Grin

Yes, I agree destinys. High street clothes have been awful for several years. Funnily enough, there have been some really strong looks for blokes over this period, but the womens'....meh. I went into New Look the other day wondering if the Epoch of Meh was over, but no. More of the same.

Trousers either half-mast or parsnip shaped. Great. My legs are already parsnip shaped, I want clothes that help me disguise that unwelcome fact.

I agree. What's with all the awful cut out shoulder tops? And don't get me started on bloody peplums and ugly flappy bell sleeves on everything.

You've never seen anyone wearing a short skirt? Hmm

I'm 40 and in December, I bought a pair of hot pant dungarees. So there.

Cold shoulder tops are horrible though, but not sure why I think that.

Apart from shoes and jewellery I haven't brought anything new for ages, I do look but rarely find anything I like. Find tons of stuff in charity shops tho! These days I only wear things that I know suit me, fashion comes and goes but if you have your own sense of style, that doesn't date really.

It's all to draw attention from the sharpie Groucho Marx eyebrows

^^ This. And horrendously heavy make up. It looks awful in real life but I assume the aim is that it looks better on instagram etc.

Hot pant dungarees? More fool you! Grin

Totally agree. The cut out shoulder thing is awful, and those awful fussy sleeves! Coco c must be spinning in her grave.
I find Zara has stayed relatively sane. And toast, obviously, but that doesn't really change. For the rest I'd torch it

I keep seeing what look like ok tops but when you hold them up the material is so thin it's practically see-through. I don't want to show my bra or have to wear a vest top under a top in the summer.

I'm doing the 'buy no clothes for a year' challenge and from recent trips into town feel no urge AT ALL to buy anything. It's quite liberating really because everything in the shop windows is horrible. I'm sure it wasn't always like this, I feel like the retailers look a bit desperate...
