AIBU?

To think current fashion is f*cking hideous?

Probably BU but I went shopping the other week as I needed a few tops. I saw:
Bright yellow playsuits
Hideous tops with the shoulders cut out
Skirts that look more like belts
Jeans with so many rips that they are indecent
Tops that aren't even decent (too short)
Cardigans with no sleeves (why, you wear a cardigan if it's cold surely)
AIBU to think that it's hideous and nobody would want to be seen dead in it?

I don't dislike skinny jeans
But I'm pear shaped so I can't wear them. Some of my upper thigh is too big to get in the right size. My sister is apple shape so can wear them with a long top. I'm not overweight.

Actually this thread has made me realise, there are a lot of people wearing skinnies who don't want to aren't there?

Also don't like leggings for the same reason I don't like tights - I get eczema. I need a bit of room - so my only option is harem pants?! No.

I like the cold shoulder tops, and the flowy, ridiculously long skirts, and the floppy sleeves, I have been dressing like it for years, what I don't like is that its now fashionable, because now a) I'm not the only one snapping it up in the charity shops and b) I saw a really stunning young girl in the same outfit as me earlier, she looked a lot better in it than i do.

I'm glad it's not just me! I am fat and fifty plus so look like shit in clingy, frilly, cheap clothes and that seems to be all there is at the moment. God knows what I am going to wear if things don't improve soon

I've accepted I shall be living in pyjamas Angrywas pregnant last summer, and now 2 sizes bigger than any of my previous summer clothes and also trying to find anything to breastfeed in is near impossible! Think some of the gappy shoulder tops are almost ridiculous enough to whip a boob out through the shoulder hole Hmm

I'm not entirely sure what's wrong with the dress QueenOfThorns posted earlier either?

Oh I just thought
Is that another reason for wearing PJs outside - other trousers all skinny cut?

Ankle skimmers are just the right full length for me cos I am short.
Zara seems ok here in SA, but we are into autumn now so our stores are gearing up for the cold.

I've made the mistake of optimistically shopping for new clothes in 3 different shopping centres, in 3 different towns in desperate hope of finding some new clothes for work.

Every single top had something missing (shoulders mostly) or was a ridiculous colour, was square shaped, cropped, transparent or had a frill over the bust or hem - not flattering on anyone at all, but particularly if you're large of boob and thick of waist already.

Every single shop had some variant of the above, like they're all competing for the worst item they could stock.

Even dresses... 'bardot' style, clingy 'bodycon' in some sort of hideous polyester lace or that weird thick polyester 'scuba' fabric that could stand up on its own but yet managed so highlight vpl and the side/back tits bra overhang. And if not the horror described above, then just a square in a hideous print, sometimes with a ruffle or random patch of mis matched fabric to add interest to the squareness of it all.
I don't want to look like I've forgotten half of my clothes, links I'm naked or that I'm a piece of lego.

I think baggy/bootcut/flare type jeans are long overdue a comeback. Skinny's have been in for at least ten years now.

I don't do fashion. Just wear a few casual basics. Just don't see why I would buy something just cos someone says is on trend! (To make money when we already have perfectly good clothes)

I really want manufacturers to take note of this and produce wearable, flattering clothes in good colours and fabrics. And yes, we know what these should look like - it's style we want, not fashion.

Someone who did this season after season would make an absolute fortune.

Even shops that start out with a basic, stylish remit go rogue within a few years and start producing polyshit in weird shapes and colours.

MaidOfStars There was nothing wrong with it in 1978 when I wore it, now I'm not convinced!

"It's like going out in your tights, everyone can see every bit of flab in your legs
And if you don't have flabby legs?"

Almost every woman has some kind of shape to her legs, some kind of bulge around the calf, knee or thighs. If not, fine I'll accept that a size 6-8 is OK in skinny jeans.

"My skinnies are skinny, not Lycra/thin/skin tight. They are jeans made of denim that are cut close to the leg, not spray on."

A lot of the most recent ones are "super skinny" and they do look sprayed on. A lot of them also don't stay up properly.

Yes, but if your old clothes are past their sell by date and you have to buy new clothes, you can find yourself with no choice other than something in fashion now.

The terrible fabrics revolt me - and they have the cheek to be not cheap too, despite being made of horrible crap that must be centimes/pennies per metre. It feels hideous too, and is smelly.

Even if you dint do fashion - neither do I really - I have to actually wear clothes....so when I go out and can only get patterned crazy or crazy cut, it's a problem.

So you can't be shapely yet have no flab? Not all small people are matchsticks Grin (not that there's anything wrong with the matchstick look).

yanbu, I couldn't agree more. I've spent a lot of time in the last couple of weeks trying to buy some basics, shopping on-line and in actual shops, and all I managed to buy so far is one pair of trousers, and even they are an odd pink colour, but they're the least weird I could find.

I explained that what I meant by "shape" was that some parts of our legs sort of stick out with extra flab, thighs for example. I just feel that when I'm wearing my skinnies I'm in one of those school nightmares where you realise you've forgotten to put your skirt on, but still have some tights. They just leave very little to the imagination.

This is why I mainly shop in non-trend shops like Uniqlo.

The whole 90s fashion craze is bizarre though; giving me high school flashbacks! I probably still have some of the originals.

I've never seen a Uniqlo shop in my life, nor half the shops mentioned on here even though I've shopped in cities that are well known for their shopping opportunities.

I think there is an island somewhere that houses all the fashion non selling items from the 80s and 90s and they just keep sending out batches of clothes every year in the hope that someone eventually buys them.

Walked into Top Shop this morning and immediately spotted bright yellow miami vice type jacket and embroidered jeans. Walking further in there was a cute mini. We didn't buy it as I have the exact one hung up since 1987

There is (was?) a Uniqlo in Coventry. Just to give a measure.

Not one in Manchester (my current location) that I can think of.
