To be a bit scared - strange man

I come home every lunch to walk my dog, and a few days ago, I noticed a man sitting in his car in my apartment block's car park. I saw him looking at me quite thoroughly, but he stayed in his car.

I went inside to get my dog, and as I was walking out through my apartment building's main doors (which are locked unless you have a key), he was conveniently standing there, and asked me if I knew where "Jessie" lived. I said no, sorry, and walked away.

About half an hour ago someone buzzes my apartment, I say "Hello?" and the man on the other end says "Jessie?". I say no, sorry, you have the wrong apartment.

Ten minutes after that, I get a knock on my door, I look through the spy hole and it's the same man.

All my lights are on so he must know that I'm home, but I didn't answer because TBH I'm home alone and don't want to answer my door to strange men.

It could be nothing but AIBU to be a bit creeped out by this? From where the man was parked, he could clearly see me go into my apartment as the building is made of glass.

Not U at all. I'd be completely freaked!! Call the police. How did he get into the building?

Hmm, I'm not easily spooked but even I would feel unnerved by this. It might be nothing but I would give the local police a call too.

I wouldn't Call the police personally in case he's genuinely just looking for someone called Jessie?! Deffo do not answer your door though

I think it is probably coincidence.

He is looking for Jessie who lives in your apartment block. He asks you about her.

Later he randomly tries all the buzzers looking for Jessie. Yours is one of the ones he tries.

He eventually manages to get in by someone and starts knocking all the apartment doors looking for Jessie. Yours happens to be one of them.

I understand you are spooked but i can’t see what the police are going to do about this.

If you feel threatened then call them.
Similar has happened to me recently and was told I did the right thing and to do it again if I needed to.

He'll be a private detective won't he? Looking for Jessie who's having it away with someone who isn't her husband.

Sorry...I certainly wouldn't call the police, to say what? A man rang my bell, he's looking for someone who isn't me?

Surely he would have known you're not Jessie from the bell he rung at the entrance as it would correspond with your door number. Ring 101 and explain it to them.

Sounds like Jessie has had a lucky escape, what an intense sounding person.

I wouldn't ring the police though unless he came back after getting a flea in his ear whether it's through the door or not.

Not understanding why people would say you shouldn't call the police. Isn't this kind of thing they're there for? Prevention is better than cure, it's better to make them aware now rather than wait for some sort of climax of the man's behaviour. There might be a lady around who's scared of her ex or there might be others in the area who have been creeped out by him who have rung them. Better that they have some info than not know at all.

LOL at all of the posters saying "call the police" 😂😂😂😂 and for what possible reason would she phone the cops? It's someone with the wrong address, unless the OP actually is called Jessie and doesn't want to acknowledge it for whatever reason but even then there would be no cause to involve the police unless she was in witness protection! 😀😂

Sounds stalkerish to me, I'd call the police.

Has a Jessie lived at your address in the past? I'm thinking debt collector or bailiff. Or court summons delivery (does that happen in reality or just in films?)

was he knocking on other doors in your floor too? or just yours?

If he rung your buzzer and u said u wasn't Jessie why knock on same door number ?

He's looking for Jessie.
Either he has the wrong address, or Jessie used to live at op's flat, or there is a Jessie somewhere in the building and he rang all the buzzers and knocked on all the doors.
Be glad you're not Jessie op! Do you know your neighbours? Have you seen any letters with that name in the post area?

Listen to your instincts - sounds dodgy and another reason to report iis that he might have done this before

Take the car registration if you see him again, and then discuss with the police.
