Woman threw water at me

I was cycling and came to some trafficlights. A woman was looking at her phone so I banged on her window and shouted get off your phone. She tried to throw water at me and drove off, would police be interested?

Fucking yes! Report the mad bint.

RedHelenB · 04/03/2017 21:46

Were there cameras?

whatonaschoolnight · 04/03/2017 21:47

Yes, report.

RedBullBlood · 04/03/2017 21:47

Probably not. (You waited long enough for her to open the window, chuck water then drive off?)

ijustheartdietcoke · 04/03/2017 21:47

dont think so?

Sparklingbrook · 04/03/2017 21:47

It's not really your job to go banging on windows and laying the law down.

ijustheartdietcoke · 04/03/2017 21:48

not really Red coz she wound down her window I thought she was going to shout back and she sprayed water in my face instead

MellieMGrant · 04/03/2017 21:49

You what? If I was stopped at traffic lights and checked my phone and some mental cyclist banged on my window I'd probably chuck something worse than water at them.

Is it illegal now to have your phone while stationary? I haven't driven for a while. Even so you were oddly combative.

ijustheartdietcoke · 04/03/2017 21:49

Yes it is illegal!!

Vanillamanilla1 · 04/03/2017 21:49

what sparkling said

Userone1 · 04/03/2017 21:49

Yea I'm struggling with why you would be banging on someone's window!

If you were that bothered just take registration!

antimatter · 04/03/2017 21:49

£200 fine for her and 6 points on her driving license...

SuperTrumper · 04/03/2017 21:50

Mellie - yes it is illegal. Engine needs to be completely switched off for it to be legal. I learnt that on a course Blush

Sweets101 · 04/03/2017 21:50

Why ask MN? Ring 101 and ask them.
Banging on people's car windows isn't a great idea. Where you riding in the middle of the road or did she spray it across her passenger seat? She must have been pretty cross to do that.

Giraffe31 · 04/03/2017 21:51

Yes I would report her. It is illegal to use your phone with the engine on even if you are stopped at traffic lights, parked up or in a traffic jam. As long as the engine is running it is against the law

Sweets101 · 04/03/2017 21:51

actual rules here

The rules are the same if you’re stopped at traffic lights or queuing in traffic.

Userone1 · 04/03/2017 21:51

Is it illegal to start banging on someone's window when they driving!

HelloCanYouHearMe · 04/03/2017 21:51

Mellie i believe, but will wait to be corrected, that yes - at the lights with your engine running, it is still illegal to check your phone.

you should be pulled up and engine off

Sparklingbrook · 04/03/2017 21:51

Your thread title is somewhat misleading.

TheFairyCaravan · 04/03/2017 21:52

So, in the space of 5 minutes you've said she threw water at you, tried to throw water at you and sprayed water in your face. 🤔

Which one was it? Confused

DrivingMeBonkers · 04/03/2017 21:52

Yes, even if at traffic lights, however that doesn't give you the right to thump her property.

www.gov.uk/using-mobile-phones-when-driving-the-law

It’s illegal to use a hand-held phone or similar device while driving, or riding a motorcycle.

The rules are the same if you’re stopped at traffic lights or queuing in traffic.

Sweets101 · 04/03/2017 21:52

She won't get in trouble for being on the phone on your say so, she might be in trouble re throwing water at you.

Sparklingbrook · 04/03/2017 21:52

I was told it's engine off and keys out of the ignition too before using a phone. But I am not a police officer.

WorraLiberty · 04/03/2017 21:53

With no witnesses, the police can't do anything so it wouldn't be worth them following that up.

Also, you're seriously at risk of getting your face punched if you're going to bang on cars and shout 'get off your phone' at people.
