I was cycling and came to some trafficlights. A woman was looking at her phone so I banged on her window and shouted get off your phone. She tried to throw water at me and drove off, would police be interested?

Is it illegal now to have your phone while stationary?

always has been!

did she 'try' and throw water or succeed, as the OP states one thing, but it changes later on. If she sprayed water in your face, technically it's assault, so yes, the police would be duty bound to investigate it. but realistically do you have anything for them to work on? her registration? and was there any CCTV or any witnesses?

ijustheartdietcoke · 04/03/2017 21:54

Sprayed it across the seat, it was like in a sports bottle.

When you can use a phone in your vehicle

If you’re the driver, you can only use your phone in a vehicle if you:

#need to call 999 or 112 in an emergency and it’s unsafe or impractical to stop
#are safely parked

TotalPineapple · 04/03/2017 21:55

YABU banging on her window, she was stationary, looking at her phone was dangerous how (I quite often use my phone as sat nav and check ahead at long lights)?

SWBU attempting to throw water on you, I'd have probably just given you the finger. Though I do know people who are VERY precious about their cars so I dread to think what they do if you banged on their window.

As it stands I'd call it even and wind your neck in next time.

Sweets101 · 04/03/2017 21:55

You wouldn't need witnesses re the water necessarily. Reporting the use of the phone is pointless though.

Now she's spraying the water across the seat. Hmm

Did the water actually touch you at all?

Userone1 · 04/03/2017 21:56

Maybe it was vodka! Report her...did you take her registration?

mnbvcxzl · 04/03/2017 21:56

Bloody hell Mellie have you been living under a rock!?

I don't think the police would be interested tbh.

BillSykesDog · 04/03/2017 21:56

I think if someone was thumping on her window and yelling at her she might have a pretty good argument she did it in self defence.

Sweets101 · 04/03/2017 21:57

Wow she was mad! Did the water reach you?

DrivingMeBonkers · 04/03/2017 21:57

Do you have a cam on your cycle helmet? (are cams admissible evidence ?)

Could you prove any of this if you reported her or would it be your word against hers?

SoleBizzz · 04/03/2017 21:57

Don't bang on car windows then!

CrossCountryRunner · 04/03/2017 21:58

I would have banged the window too.

Selfish cow. Probably checking Facebook.

I got abuse from a lady on a bike who went through a red light as I crossed the road. She was on a bike with a wooden box attached containing three small children. I told her she was a shit parent and got abuse. Really surprised as she looked like a lentil weaving Guardian reader.

I am afraid the cunt word popped out! Very loudly!

MuseumOfCurry · 04/03/2017 21:58

It may well be illegal to check your phone while at a traffic light, but the worst she'd do is not see the light turn green and hold traffic (until people start honking).

You were being ridiculously aggressive and should accept your water punishment IMO.

ijustheartdietcoke · 04/03/2017 21:58

It hit me a bit not loads but went in my face. I happen to take public saftey very seriously!!

RedBullBlood · 04/03/2017 21:59

I actually saw someone once jump out of their car and bang the driver's window at a traffic light. The window completely shattered. I wouldn't risk it myself!

mnbvcxzl · 04/03/2017 21:59

Wow. It is really bloody concerning that some people are still so passive about using phones in cars despite the recent changes. Fucking hell, no one needs to check their phone at traffic lights - if you need it, pull over!

MuseumOfCurry · 04/03/2017 21:59

I happen to take public saftey very seriously!!

You sound like hard work.

Electrolens · 04/03/2017 21:59

If you see someone using their phone and car not stationary take the number plate and call 101 and report. It's a serious offence and now three points on licence

Aussiemum78 · 04/03/2017 22:00

I don't think it's your place to go thumping people's cars and shouting at them. You both sound aggressive.

Userone1 · 04/03/2017 22:00

"She was on a bike with a wooden box attached containing three small child" lol

DrivingMeBonkers · 04/03/2017 22:00

TBH, you must be the first cyclist I've come across who has claimed to stop at a red light.

ijustheartdietcoke · 04/03/2017 22:00

I totally agree mnb! So awful.
