Woman threw water at me

I was cycling and came to some trafficlights. A woman was looking at her phone so I banged on her window and shouted get off your phone. She tried to throw water at me and drove off, would police be interested?

Well you never know user, it might have been Ronnie Pickering.

SparklyUnicornPoo · 04/03/2017 22:44

I would report her, they might not actually do anything about the phone, especially if she denies it but spraying water on you is technically assault so they will likely talk to her and probably give her a lecture about using her phone, which might make her think a bit more in future.

I would like to say I'm shocked at the posters who can't see whats wrong with it but the number of idiots I've seen pull off at the lights while just quickly finishing whatever they are doing on their phone, or looking at their bag quickly to put the phone away is fucking ridiculous. It's dangerous and stupid and I've seen a few near misses.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 04/03/2017 22:45

People seem to get very get up about their property being touched. I think if someone is on their phone it isn't such an extreme response to tap on their window. Depends how hard a tap though - banging aggressively won't help and only make yourself look like the dangerous one.

Sweets101 · 04/03/2017 22:45

OP is off on her bike righting the wrongs of drivers everywhere. Watch out justheart's about

cheeeeselover · 04/03/2017 22:45

Well I'm just glad then that the op happened to be there and save us from this dangerous water squirting driver. Goodness knows what could have happened if they had just put down their phone when the light changed and driven off.

kierenthecommunity · 04/03/2017 22:46

Do you think it's dangerous to maintain conversation with your passenger at a red light?

well, no. talking to someone doesn't involve you focusing your sight into a small area away from the windscreen. unless you're staring at their crotch or something, which is all sorts of other type of wrong

Toska · 04/03/2017 22:46

Well done OP and I hope you're OK, report the fool. Of course it's fucking illegal to use you phone when you're stationary.

Maybe invest in one of those head cameras to keep yourself safe.

WankersHacksandThieves · 04/03/2017 22:47

So if I was stopped in a traffic jam and couldn't pull over to park because already at standstill I couldn't use my phone to call someone to pick up my dc from school?

well, no, you couldn't. just because it inconveniences you doesn't mean it's some how less illegal.

Although, if you were completely at a standstill for long enough then applied the handbrake and turned of the engine and removed the key, you could use use your phone or at least make a call using a hands free device and then turn everything back on again and continue in the jam.

kierenthecommunity · 04/03/2017 22:48

spraying water on you is technically assault so they will likely talk to her and probably give her a lecture about using her phone

well they might if they had a clue who she is. has the OP every answered the Q about having her VRM? Hmm

Userone1 · 04/03/2017 22:48

lol billdog do you know who I am!

Sweets101 · 04/03/2017 22:49

DD shot me in the face with a toy off her mag the other day AND I told her not too. That's all manner of crimes, car jacking, assault, conversation at the steering wheel. If she wasn't 4 i'd report her.

Sparklingbrook · 04/03/2017 22:51

How much water actually made contact with the OP?

Sweets101 · 04/03/2017 22:51

No kieren she hasn't, it's a moot point really without the registration.

Bunnyfuller · 04/03/2017 22:51

youd have done better to hop off your bike and take a pic with your own phone! The police will need proof.

Userone1 · 04/03/2017 22:51

I'm so driving with a water pistol from now on!

Or maybe a toy mobile phone! Are you allowed to look at a toy?!

Sweets101 · 04/03/2017 22:52

I'm betting 2 drops. On the nose.

RedBullBlood · 04/03/2017 22:52

It's gone from looking at her phone to using it. I don't wear a watch and will often check the time on my phone while at a traffic light. Takes about one second. Is that technically 'using the phone'?

cheeeeselover · 04/03/2017 22:53

LucilleBluth · 04/03/2017 22:53

Busy body bastard!

Sweets101 · 04/03/2017 22:54

No user ! Plus you have the added risk of passengers using them against you. Bottle of water is the best if you want to be incognito about your anti car-jacking devices

Man10 · 04/03/2017 22:54

I wonder about this...

"(1) A person is guilty of an offence if he:
(a) uses threatening [or abusive] words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour, or
(b) displays any writing, sign or other visible representation which is threatening [or abusive],
within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby."

kierenthecommunity · 04/03/2017 22:54

technically I'd say yes. you'd be really really unlucky to be actually caught doing that though

well, unless the OP cycles near you maybe

Userone1 · 04/03/2017 22:54

I'm so inventing a toy mobile phone that squirts water

mnbvcxzl · 04/03/2017 22:55

Who has a car without a clock?

WankersHacksandThieves · 04/03/2017 22:55

Probably. They are recommending that you put your phone in the glovebox or, if using it as a satnav, it should be in a holder and programmed with a pre planned route.
