I've read that
Blue tin Nivea is a cheaper version of creme de la mer so I've bought 3 tins!

Please can Anyone recommend anything that is as good as the branded version but cheaper?

Quark is basically sieved cottage cheese.

piefacedClique · 04/03/2017 20:11

And I wouldn't buy nappies and wipes from anywhere other than Aldi now... l literally pissed money away buying pampers!!!!

car5ys · 04/03/2017 20:13

Oh and Aldis salted caramel "magnum" style ice creams (3 in a box) are delicious, just had one after my dinner

piefacedClique · 04/03/2017 20:13

Apologies for the typos I've been enjoying lidl's much cheaper Hortus gin! 😂😂😂

grace9892 · 04/03/2017 20:17

Placemarking

I have creme de la mer and Nivea. The make my face feel and look the same. The cream de la mer is just for show haha

GladGran · 04/03/2017 20:25

Astral is tons better than Nivea!

Catscatsandmorecats · 04/03/2017 20:27

Another vote for Aldi nappies and wipes, so much better than the others and half the price.

Their ketchup is great as is the mayo, and the baked beans.

Also Aldi triple chocolate Magnum type ice creams are AMAZING.

Boots No7 Radiance Under Eye Concealer is exactly the same as Touche Eclat. I used to know a chemist who worked for Boots, and worked on creating the No7 version. And it's £10 cheaper.

THirdEeye · 04/03/2017 20:30

Lidl's version of cheese strings are great according to DD and are half the price to the main brand.

Also, lidl's frozen dessert selection (raspberry tarts etc) is excellent and so much better than Tesco's finest versions. They also cost so much less!

DementedO1 · 04/03/2017 20:34

Time delay didn't contain metrixyl which is the active ingredient in no7 perfect and perfect so they were absolutely not the same.

highinthesky · 04/03/2017 20:34

The Crem de la Mer / Nivea example reminds me of something from childhood. May mum was a fan of EA products but when her SIL visited she would inspect everything and hinted that it could be given to her, or else liberate it without asking.

So when my mum filled up an empty bottle of eight hour cream with baby lotion and my aunt declared her love for this product, she was happy to gift it Grin

highinthesky · 04/03/2017 20:37

FrancesPow - hasn't Joan Collins had numerous facelifts? I wouldn't be too quick to give credit to Nivea.

littlestlily · 04/03/2017 20:39

Waitrose effervescent multi vitamins have exactly the same vitamins in the same doses as berocca, and are around £1.50 as opposed to £5

bakedbeansandtuna · 04/03/2017 20:44

Personally - and I know not all would agree - but basics weetabix is nicer than the brand 'brand' weetabix and the 'actual' weetabix.

BUT corn flakes need to be kellogg's ! :)

mrscantona7 · 04/03/2017 20:44

I second boots natural collection cosmetics, exceptional price & quality. The mascara & eyebrow kit are fab.

I love all Costco Kirkland products, yes they may be in bulk, but the quality is brilliant.

Does anyone know of a perfume that smells like Marc Jacobs Daisy? Thanks

AYankinSpanx · 04/03/2017 20:55

Love this thread.

I've got my doubts about the Creme de la Mer/Nivea though, or at least it's not true of it's effect on everyone. I only use CdlM periodically, but when I do, I actually do a double-take of myself in mirrors Grin as it makes such a difference to my skin. I forget it's on and wonder why I suddenly look a lot better than usual. I only wish Nivea really did do the same!

ELF HD powder is incredible. It's a dupe of Make Up Forever's version, but about 1/4 of the price.

TapStepBallChange · 04/03/2017 20:56

Aldi Swiss Mountain Chocolate bat is like Toblerone only 100x better, it's more densely packed than the old toblerone, never mind the rubbish new one and tastes amazing.
The Aldi liquid hand soap is a great alternative to Molton Brown, especially the orange one

AYankinSpanx · 04/03/2017 21:00

Tesco 85% dark chocolate is nice than Green and Blacks and half the price. True.

lidoshuffle · 04/03/2017 21:14

Mrs Cantona7 M&S Butterfly is a Daisy bootleg.

Re the insurance

I always thought all that mattered was who the underwriters were

So in the example given then yes they are both written by Allianz so will be the same

Happy to be corrected

clarabellb · 04/03/2017 21:15

*underwritten

I've just discovered KIKO, Milano make up too, visited their shop in Bradford Broadway Shopping Centre last week. Agree their lipsticks and cream stick blusher are great, 70% off when I bought mine.

I prefer Sainsburys "Kit Kats" to the real thing.

mrscantona7 · 04/03/2017 21:29

Thanks Lido!

notbobmarley · 04/03/2017 21:42

Get farrow&ball paint colours mixed by b&q valspar. They have the colours stored in their computer plus the paint is scrubbable.

Swapped shopping at Waitrose for Lidl saved a fortune and not missed anything. I like their q10 night cream also it's dirt cheap £1.70ish so put it on really thick in winter.

Anything that's not very processed I just buy the absolute basic - pasta, flour, oats. Lidl spaghetti 20p a pack and no different to any other spaghetti
