I've read that
Blue tin Nivea is a cheaper version of creme de la mer so I've bought 3 tins!

Please can Anyone recommend anything that is as good as the branded version but cheaper?

It's only a label. The ingredients are the same for most things whether expensive or not.

Does anyone think that high end labels are made for you personally in a workshop where the maker is paid lot of money?

No way. They are all made in sweatshops just the label is different.

Get with the program and wise up folks!

creamcheeseandlox · 04/03/2017 18:40

Aldi do caramel wafers exactly like tunnuks. My kids prefer s lot of their cereals to other brands. Their tampons are about 80p a box and just as good as leading brand.

beggin4mercy · 04/03/2017 18:41

But I suppose some people are snobs and if they have the money to fritter away for the same thing but it must have a label. fine, no worries.

This label thing is going to be the next scandal.

missm0use · 04/03/2017 18:44

Meat in Lidl comes from the same farms and butcher as M&S just comes in different packaging! A family friend who works in senior management for Lidl told us!

Bizzybee01 · 04/03/2017 18:47

M&S PURE range us the same as Liz Earle. Apparently made in the same factory. Can recommend their instant radiance hot cloth cleanser.

youvegottobekidding · 04/03/2017 18:48

Just remembered, with dd, use to use pampers nappies, then when ds came along, continued with pampers, until I got wind of Morrisons own very basic ones, so I tried them and they were fantastic, just as good as pampers. This was, about 5 years ago now, came in a yellow packet and something like £1.30 for 20 nappies, but saved us a fortune. If I remember correctly they were only available in the bigger sizes, not for newborns, but definitely worth a try if they still have their basic brand of nappies.

I can tell you that most own-brand cereal - from Lidl through Tesco to Waitrose is actually made by Nestle. In the same factories as Shreddies, Shredded Wheat etc. If you look at the barcodes and the contact information on the pack, it's the same.

I once read a quote from Joan Collins where she said she uses Nivea. A pretty good recommendation even, I thought.

I've used it since my skin started breaking out with Kiehl's moisturiser and really like it.

Bunnyfuller · 04/03/2017 19:00

Asda chilled section curries instead of an Indian takeaway. Way less fatty and really delicious. Team with M and S garlic naan - which is the same as takeaway but only £2!

theonlygeorgie · 04/03/2017 19:01

Aldi Mamia nappies are great.

Next's "Just Pink" perfume smells just like Ralph Lauren Romance perfume... my absolute fave.

Breadwidow · 04/03/2017 19:07

The greeny yellow Lidl cien hand soap smells the same as Baylis & Harding stuff of the same colour, which also smells the same as Molton brown one of the same colour. However, I have now abandoned the lot to make my own from liquid Castile soap, mainly to avoid dry hands

MrDacresEUSubsidy · 04/03/2017 19:08

Definitely recommend Nivea soft - it's my favourite hand cream. I've tried all sorts, including very expensive brands, but the Nivea Soft stuff is the bees whatsits. If you're budget conscious then the big plastic jar is cheaper per 100ml than buying the tube.

I'd also really recommend The Body Shop chamomile silky cleansing oil. It's about £8 or 9 for the bottle but lasts ages and is a wonderful cleanser which turns to milk when you wash your face. Brilliant at shifting eye makeup, great 'slip' and not highly scented. I'd take this any day over Clinque's Take The Day Off or Emma Hardie's Moringa Balm.

beggin4mercy · 04/03/2017 19:12

Label and Brand purchasers are those the labels want.

Get a brain. Sweatshop stuff ends up in high end and low end but with a different label depending if it is for X la di da shop or Primark.

NEVER be bought in by a label or a brand. But then maybe labels or brands mean a lot to some.

cynicaltothecore · 04/03/2017 19:15

I'm a total Lidl convert, but worthy of special mention are ground coffee, Greek yoghurt, fake Leibniz biscuits, fake Jaffa cakes, cooked meats and hand cream (better than Neutrogena).

beggin4mercy · 04/03/2017 19:17

@MrDacres

I am obviously a slut, but use Nivea Soft on my face aswell as other regions!. Lovely and soft. Best kept secret. OOps it's out now!

ssssm · 04/03/2017 19:19

@HelsinkiLights what is the mayonnaise called? I tried one Aldi mayo and it didn't taste like Hellman's :(

Miserylovescompany2 · 04/03/2017 19:26

I just wish Lidl delivered! Started trying their stuff a few years back, now I'm completely converted....if that means going every other day, so be it.

Love their...

Crisps, jam, deluxe range (basically everything I've tried thus far) cereal, probiotic yogurts, hunters chicken (better than any other supermarket) French fries, nappies, baby wipes, fruit, veg...

Not keen on their joints of meat or whole chickens...can't get away with Norpack as was brought up on Lurpack.

I never knew Aldi did makeup? I'm going to have to investigate that one :)

Howaboutthisone · 04/03/2017 19:28

Shameless placemarking!

Fanciedachange17 · 04/03/2017 19:28

Lidl Quark at 75p much better than the Morrison one at £1.50. (Prices last week). Greek yoghurt is lovely and has anyone tried Aldi's little handmade yoghurts that come in glass bottles? 69p each but are so nice (and I use the pot afterwards).
Nettle/Mint or Raspberry tea. Don't buy it. Pick the leaves off plants in your garden, dry them in a very low oven, store in clean Aldi yoghurt pot and you have free tea which is usually organic as well. (Use young nettle leaf in the spring and wear gloves. Once boiling water is on them they will not sting. Makes a lovely soup as well).

Miserylovescompany2 · 04/03/2017 19:28

Oh, almost forgot Lidl's deluxe coleslaw, it's delicious!

FurryLittleTwerp · 04/03/2017 19:54

Tesco Colombian Roast ground coffee is nicer than the Taylors stuff & nearly £2 cheaper per packet.

car5ys · 04/03/2017 20:00

Aldi Corale baked beans are lovely and my family are fussy about beans. They do lots of lovely snacks/nuts well priced and we eat loads of their caramel wafers (tunnocks rip offs). Lacura face stuff excellent. My very fussy cats love their biscuits and my dogs like the earls minty dental sticks but wont touch the pedigree dentistix ones.

Emmageddon · 04/03/2017 20:00

Rescue oil from Home Bargain for a quid is a good substitute for the much dearer Bio Oil.

Tesco Value baby lotion is currently 17p for 500mls and is an excellent make-up remover - decant some into a pretty bottle if you don't want the big white value bottle on your bathroom shelf Wink

piefacedClique · 04/03/2017 20:05

I've always bought robinsons double strength squash but have found both Aldi and lidl's versions to be better and much cheaper. Lidl's antibacterial wipes are amazing, again cheaper and ice always been a massive clothes detergent snob and have only ever bought bold but aldis is so much cheaper and smells just as good. Im a massive Aldi fan and I do the Martin lewis trip that a few posters have mentioned..... try the brand below what you usually buy, if you like it stick if it's not as good go back.
