Pancakes for tea - AIBU or DH?!

It's Pancake Day on Tuesday! Bloody love Pancake Day.
Although, who's BU?
I think stacks of pancakes for tea on Pancake Day (dinner to the Southerner lot) with loads of different toppings, fruit and fillings is perfectly adequate.
DH thinks that's not a substantial tea, and they're perfectly good as a starter but it's not a main meal for the kids.
Am I unreasonable to think "Shurrup, it's Pancake Day!" and continue to fill us all with pancakes or do you do something else as well?

DH is so unreasonable.
I fill myself up to the brim with pancakes. Did when I was a kid as well.

I'm with you but my dh is with your dh so he can cook his own tea Grin and mine won't even see fruit on theirs but lots of melted curly wurly filled pancakes and ice cream should fill them nicely Wink

YANBU Pancakes rule.

Every Pancake Day we say "why don't we have pancakes for tea once a week?"

We've still not had pancakes since last Pancake Day Hmm

We have normal dinner and pancakes afterwards, my DCs don't like them savoury or with lots of toppings and fancy stuff, just a bit of sugar or golden syrup.

Same here. Kids love a pancake tea, but DH says it doesn't fill him up, and asks what's for mains Grin

We also do savoury crepes. I like chicken, mushroom in a creamy garlic sauce wrapped into parcels. Yum.

Plenty of pancakes with a variety of toppings is a perfectly adequate, nutritious and filling meal. It is also once a year (though I should do it more often).

You can do savoury ones followed by sweet ones. Why the hell not? Do that. Then when everyone including him is stuffed to bursting point see whether he still thinks it hasn't been enough.

I hate pancake Tuesday but the dc love it so i will spend my afternoon making pancake after bloody pancake! My dh is like yours every year he says we should have a proper dinner but i just let him sort something out for himself. I love a savory filling, salmon and mayonnaise is my favourite so that will be my tea sorted. As pp say it's only once a year. (thank god)

Pancake dinner is brilliant! I start making them an hour or so before dinner, so that there are stacks keeping warm under foil in the oven, otherwise I wouldn't get any.

First we have savoury fillings: tuna mayo, grated cheese, pesto, whatever you fancy from the fridge. Usually have juice to drink with the savouries.

Then we have the sweet fillings: bananas, Nutella, peanut butter, jam, maple sugar, sugar-n-lemon, sugar-n-cinnamon, sugar-n-cocoa powder, anything else you can think of! We drink tea with the sweets.

Then we are stuffed. Unsurprisingly, as the five of us will have got through about 3" (stacked) of pancakes!

I put lots of sliced fruit out but more often than not they blatantly ignore the fruit and just slap chocolate spread or jam liberally on instead.... Hmm Smile

One ham and cheese pancake each followed by whatever the kids want. Some want an extra savoury one, others go straight to sweet.

I never had pancakes as a kid which is quite strange being as I've a Catholic family so usually follow the various easter type stuff but anyway I was quite surprised the first time I had pancake day at (now) DHs family as it was 'just' pancakes. Bloody brilliant it was too!

I used to always do savoury ones and sweet ones

Savoury would have rare steak and blue cheese with another with spinach, mushroom, ricotta and pine nuts.

Sweet for DH lemon and sugar and then maple syrup (could have more than one of each), me with Nutella and strawberries

Now we have DD we just do sweet and eat them with her as she eats earlier than us and I can't be toddler wrangling and figuring out the savoury timings (DH gets home as she about to eat) but I'm sure we will again in the future.

Pancakes are eggs and milk mixed with a bit of flour then cooked in a smear of butter , so basically they are slightly modified scrambled eggs on toast so therefore perfectly adequate for tea. don't put ketchup on pancakes though.

(next week viques will solve brexit in less than 50 words.)

I don't mind pancakes for dinner once a year. We keep chickens so always glad to use up fresh eggs, as pp said, it's just flour and milk otherwise.

My kids like them with a squeeze of lemon and just a tiny sprinkle of sugar, so it's not too bad really.
