Pancakes for tea - AIBU or DH?!

It's Pancake Day on Tuesday! Bloody love Pancake Day.
Although, who's BU?
I think stacks of pancakes for tea on Pancake Day (dinner to the Southerner lot) with loads of different toppings, fruit and fillings is perfectly adequate.
DH thinks that's not a substantial tea, and they're perfectly good as a starter but it's not a main meal for the kids.
Am I unreasonable to think "Shurrup, it's Pancake Day!" and continue to fill us all with pancakes or do you do something else as well?

We do a three course pancake dinner...
Starter is goats cheese and beetroot chutney
Main either spinach has ricotta crepes or cheese and mushroom crepes covered with a tomato sauce and more cheese then baked
Pudding is classic lemon and sugar

We have pancakes all year round though.

PurpleDaisies · 27/02/2017 11:00

I would warn anyone thinking of a dinner of nostalgic findus crispy pancakes that they've changed the recipe and are now almost inedible. I was really disappointed when I had them recently.

dowhatnow · 27/02/2017 11:04

We're having savoury and sweet ones. DH is bvu.

ExplodedCloud · 27/02/2017 11:07

I'm in the if you aren't full, eat more pancakes camp.
If I'm feeling grown up I do pancakes stuffed with spinach, gruyere and mushrooms baked in cream for me and DH

TheLittlePaperbagPrincess · 27/02/2017 11:13

We had pancakes with golden syrup yesterday. We,will have them today. We will also have them tomorrow.

ThoraGruntwhistle · 27/02/2017 11:13

You have tons of them as your actual dinner/tea, with many different fruits and toppings. If we have fruit salad accompanying the pancakes, it makes me feel less guilty about the crap dinner. Yes I know fruit is full of sugar but it's got vitamins and fibre and shit so there.

RhodaBorrocks · 27/02/2017 11:17

DH IBU. Pancakes for tea* is what it's all about! I've already told DS we're only having Pancakes for tea tomorrow. He did his happy dance and dabbed a bit. Grin

*Southerner who says tea. Let's blame Northern XP for that

AmysTiara · 27/02/2017 11:19

Your DH is being completely unreasonable Shock

Aebj · 27/02/2017 11:21

Omg thank you so much for the reminder. I love pancakes.
Might be the best mum in the world tomorrow!!!

TheLittlePaperbagPrincess · 27/02/2017 11:24

In fact, LTB.

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 27/02/2017 11:26

We have a normal dinner (maybe a bit smaller than usual!) then pancakes afterwards. Usually lemon and sugar or maybe fruit and ice-cream or something.

I think we'd all be hungry if we just had pancakes and we do have quite a few!!

LynneJones · 27/02/2017 11:27

why not combine savoury and sweet, like when n holidays in the U.S. (IHOP)
so panckakes with syrup and fruit with some bacon and egs on the side.

that way its definitely a meal !

CFSKate · 27/02/2017 11:29

Grin You may be right. Definitely unreasonable behaviour on his part. Glad so many think the same!

For those that struggle with pancakes or maybe only need to do a small amount Ikea do frozen pancakes which you just blast in the microwave that are not bad! i have them as a quick pud for DS as he loves pancakes and its often not worth making a batch for 1....my ikea food bill is now higher than my tealight/useless crap bill though!

PurpleDaisies · 27/02/2017 11:33

Sorry astro. Grin
If it helps I was rubbish at pancakes and I only learned to make them when I lived with a friend who was a fantastic cook. She taught me the baked crepe recipes because thet were her favourite meals. It was like having a free cooking course!

RedBugMug · 27/02/2017 11:36

yanbu
we have small ones with smoked salmon and creamcheese & horseradish as starters
thin ones with chicken & pesto
then fruit fillings for dessert

AwaywiththePixies27 · 27/02/2017 11:39

We don't have pancakes for tea. But that's mainly because I have two children with bottomless pits and it'd never fill the pair of gannets up Wink

We have them for pudding instead.

The DCs have an aunty who makes the best pancakes on pancake day. Complete with homemade strawberry sauce and fresh strawberries and lots of other yummy fruits.

She's away in Ireland this week. Rude!

Hulababy · 27/02/2017 11:39

Used to love pancake day as a child - tea was just a whole load of pancakes with fillings - pretty much all sweet too. Don't think I came across savoury fillings until I was an adult!
It was once a year and a fabulous treat!

Dd has been out at a drama activity every Tuesday for the past 9/10 years so never really had pancake day as such here. I miss it!

Astro55 · 27/02/2017 11:45

Purpledaisy

I was feeling smug at buying fresh lemons.... Grin

Talkietalk · 27/02/2017 11:47

I remember a similar thread from last year - its all good

YessicaHaircut · 27/02/2017 11:56

We're going to have one savoury one each (grated cheese, garlicky mushrooms and spinach, topped with a fried egg). Then as many sweet ones as we can manage! I've got lemon and sugar, and Nutella, bananas and squirty cream to go on them. DH is working tomorrow night so we're having them tonight. Cannot wait!

gluteustothemaximus · 27/02/2017 12:04

We only do the sweet version here. Lemon and sugar, and tonnes of them.

We also have a queuing system, I keep cooking, and they keep queuing.

Can't wait to announce 'pancakes for tea' and hear the kids go 'yay!!!!'
