To actually wear one of these...

So, against the advice of a few MNers (and arguably my better judgement), I went and bought a "trendy" modern-ish rain bonnet (one of these - www.instagram.com/thebonnit/?hl=en). Got it in the post on Friday and now summoning up the courage to wear it if it rains on my way into work.

While this may have worked for Rihanna, still kind of wondering if I can carry it off on the tube, so in a complete abdication of responsibility, thought I'd let Mumsnet decide...

That said, if you like it and it serves it's purpose I wouldn't give a solitary shit what other commuters thought of me. Do the whole look though and go for the bright lipstick too!

We called them Rainmates when I was wee. Aunties and Grannies would bolt into the newsagents at the slightest hint of precipitation and slap one of these over their shampoo and set.

Do you have 'the look' to carry it off? All down to how you carry yourself I guess. I mean, there's way more dodgy stuff out there isn't there. I reckon go for it, you'll soon know :)

I quite like it.im only 29,but id gladly wear one as i cannot get on with umbrellas at all.

I personally wouldn't as I would look frumpy - but if you do - go for the look ! Red lipstick /retro look and I think it would work !

Every bit of me says no, but I don't know why...such a sensible idea. Won't mess up your hair like a hat. Hands free, unlike an umbrella.

I think it's sad not to be able to wear something because it's associated with grandma's. Having said that I bought something similar but different (not clear but a sort of hat that was navy with white spots). Can't bring myself to wear it!

I saw someone wearing one this morning! She had on a full vintage get up though so it didn't look totally out of place.

I did wonder why she didn't just wear a better coat though tbh.

I would wear it but then I tend dress in a retro style quite a lot, have cats eye glasses etc so I could easily pretend it was part of a 'look'. Wear it! It is practical and you liked it enough to buy it in the first place.

I once bought something similar to try and save my hair after a blow dry. I put it on to go out with DH when he stopped me at the door and said I should wait until he had checked that there was no-one in the street to see me. It mysteriously vanished after it's first outing. Grin

My Mum had loads of these in the 1960s. One in virtually every coat and handbag.

My mum used to have one of those-well, a few!

They were handy to stick in a pocket in case it rained and you had just had your hair set

I would rather wear a hat if setting out in the rain.

I have a dog so am out in all weathers and tbh keeping warm/dry is all that I care about!

I was thinking about getting one of those! But think I'd have to put some real effort into styling it right ifyswim. If you think you can pull it off - go for it!
