Had to look up 'fungible' but DH & I have just agreed it is word of the day. Star that journo. Spot on.

Roussette · 19/02/2017 19:00

Whoever does cozie I wouldn't like to be in their shoes! Can't believe he hasn't tweeted for nearly one whole day. He is obviously having great trouble filling the post of NSA

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 19/02/2017 19:00

Sweden asks for an explanation about trump's comments

Roussette · 19/02/2017 19:02

I think I might use that word myself illegitimate! It was Mark Cuban who penned that accurate take on DT.. he owns some famous sports club, is a businessman, philanthropist etc etc. Used to be a DT fan but turned and they had a twitter spat a while back

Roussette · 19/02/2017 19:06

I don't blame Sweden's foreign Minister for going official and asking the US what he means. We may laugh about it (some of the replies from Swedes have been hilariously wonderful) but it is damaging to a country. Who knows if there will be tourists who decide not to go because they think it's dangerous. (Been to Sweden a fair bit in my past so I have a very soft spot for the Swedish people!)

His inaccuracies really affect others.

Roussette · 19/02/2017 19:10

More on Mark Cuban. Talk of him being the next POTUS!

cozietoesie · 19/02/2017 19:10

His inaccuracies might potentially affect the whole world. Sad

cozietoesie · 19/02/2017 19:12

Have you watched the 'Iran Second' video? It's meant to be comic - but it has.......undertones.

AcrossthePond55 · 19/02/2017 19:16

I am overjoyed at Sweden's official request for an explanation!! I'm hoping it's the start of a shit storm of such requests from other countries or official bodies (NATO, UN, etc) whenever he makes one of his 'fake' statements!

I think the normal course when an idiot says something idiotic is to shrug and say 'what do you expect from that idiot?' and 9 times out of 10 you can safely do that. Because normally the idiot in question is not in a position of any power, known to be an idiot to the majority of his/her audience, and his words have no real effect. You can't do that with Scrotus, because he has an audience (his 'fans'), he has power, and he has the ability to make other stupid people do stupid things!

JessiCake · 19/02/2017 19:31

Apologies if this has been posted previously (and with over 10k posts on these threads, I'm sure it has been) but the thing that strikes me again and again about the Trump supporters is that they can't stop going on and on about how they 'won' and HRC supporters/liberals 'lost.'

It seems as simple as that, tbh.

It puts me in mind of my 4yo daughter and one of her friends (in actual fact, a bizarrely spiteful child in her nursery class); any game started by this second child must involve one set against another (usually girls against boys) and the whole thing tends to degenerate into yelling 'WE WOOOOON!' and 'YOU LOOOOOOOOST!'

They are 4.

And, as I say, the one behind ths stuff is an unusually spiteful 4 year old. (physically pushes and intimidate smaller children, stops 'non-friends' from playing with her and her friends etc)

Again. They are 4.

DT's supporters are, presumably, not 4. The fact that they still see this as some hilarious 'we won, you're all sad looooooooooooosers, hahahahahahahahaha,' (quite literally the kind of thing I've seen posted on Daily Mail comments site, when I choose to torture myself with it) is mind-boggling but appears to be true.

I can only deduce that these are people that have been so incredibly frustrated (for good reasons or bad) and so incredibly wound up by 8 years of Dem govt that it matters most to them simply that they won.

I think, too, that many of them might be hiding behind the joy of 'we wooooooon, you looooooooost hahahahahahaha' because it's much more fun and easier to cling onto this than it is to begin to admit the slightest possibility that the man who 'wooooooon' and made your enemies 'looooooooose hahahahahaha' for you is a fucking moron at best, an actual traitor at worst.

I think, too, that this is the same reason they won't engage with the Russia stuff. The mere possibility that you were fucking deluded enough to elect a man who might, just might have been put there by Russia ... horrible thought to have to contemplate. Much jollier to gloat and cackle about the loooooooooosers you somehow seem to think are all sitting around wearing diamond shoes and breakfasting on aborted babies.

amispartacus · 19/02/2017 19:33

You can't say something about a country when you are POTUS without expecting that country to say WTAF?

Can you imagine if he had said that about the UK?

How can he continue to talk about Fake News when both he and his staff are the ones making stuff up about terrorist attacks. I thought only the DM did this stuff. So his supporters are repeatedly told that the MSM are not to be trusted and when they question whether these things are real his supporters just think the media are covering things up.

So glad Sweden are calling him on this.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 19/02/2017 19:35

across I feel the same way. Hopefully this is the point where organisations, countries, named people call him out on his inaccuracies and hold him accountable! It's all very well saying he's pandering to his core supporters but if he insists on peddling known falsehoods, he should expect some comeback!

cozietoesie · 19/02/2017 19:36

I think his 'deep heartland' are lost, Jessi. The rest? Not so, I reckon.

amispartacus · 19/02/2017 19:44

The BBC news was interesting tonight.
It stated that former Swedish PM has tweeted about the statement Trump made last night.
It stated that people on Twitter had ridiculed Trump's claim and that no terrorist / incident happened in Sweden on Friday night that should have worried Trump.

It's true facts. Not fake news. It's not positive news for Trump. But it was something he said that is worth reporting.

BiglyBadgers · 19/02/2017 19:50

I may be overly optimistic, but i think I am starting to notice a general shift in how people are dealing with him. It is like we are passing out of the 'hey he's just trump being trump' stage and into a new 'now we actually need to deal with this fucker' phase. There appears to be a more serious response on news media now when trump's people start calling everything fake news rather then the interviewer just looking bemused and letting them get away with it. Sweden going official is also a sign of this new trend of treating him more seriously.

I think everyone had sort of assumed things would settle down and stop being so crazy after a few weeks, but now a month on and it is just getting worse it is sinking in that they need to find proper strategies for dealing with him.

cozietoesie · 19/02/2017 19:51

ami

Sorry to have to point out but this is a world where a sizeable proportion of the population - particularly of Americans - believe, without possibility of persuasion otherwise, that the moon landings were faked, that a plane did not hit the Pentagon, that the US government actually blew up the Twin Towers itself etc etc. I wish the Swedes luck - but .I think any outcome will matter little to the 'heartland'.

woman12345 · 19/02/2017 19:51

Trump was right, but not in the way he thinks:
Three suspected neo-Nazis were arrested in January after a Gothenburg Asylum centre became the target of a homemade bomb attack, leaving one person seriously injured
www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/donald-trump-terror-attack-claim-sweden-neo-nazis-refugee-centre-florida-rally-a7588516.html

Again ami I still wonder who the audiences are for these statements(written by Bannon presumably), wonder if it's a set up.

BiglyBadgers · 19/02/2017 19:55

I am finding the BBC news reporters on the radio hilarious. Whenever they do a Trump story they sort of get this slightly stilted voice like they are trying so, so hard to remain neutral but just want to let go. The 6 music guy earlier was particularly noticeable, I could practically hear his internal voice shouting 'what the fuck! Is this guy on glue?!' while he was carefully reading a studiously factual report on the rally Grin

woman12345 · 19/02/2017 19:58

I think any outcome will matter little to the 'heartland

And it's easy to trick some people who might not know very much about the world outside their country. He retains his persona as protector in chief for a lot of people I imagine. He seems to be channelling a sort of rogue Reagan homey ness.

But the lack of appointments and Fox calling him out show a shift. It's going to have to be managed carefully. If I was the mother of mining sons I would be heart broken if he was forced out.

cozietoesie · 19/02/2017 19:59

At least, Billy, they haven't taken to saying things like 'Jean has a long moustache' yet.Wink

cozietoesie · 19/02/2017 19:59

Sorry. Bigly.

JessiCake · 19/02/2017 20:02

Badgers, I agree. I am really hoping there will be a coordinated shift from the -lying fake news-- media into some serious defence tactics. Not defence of themselves but defence of free speech and a free press.

How anyone can not think it's beyond terrifying that a man who must be fully aware that the media are going to be the ones responsible for reporting (please God) his criminal associations with Russia is getting up every 5 minutes to tell the entire world that the media are liars.

Oh, and the judges too, of course. Lest we forget that the judiciary will be the ones (please God) prosecuting him.

His attempts (sadly more than mere attempts) to de-legitimise press and judges are horrifying.

Isn't this precisely the tactic abusive spouses (usually husbands) use when trying to convince people they are in fact the one being mal-treated? Smear their spouse (usually wife) to everyone they know so that when the spouse (wife) finally finds the courage to say she's leaving or tell someone about the abuse, she is doubted and made to look like the baddie and everyone believes the lying shit-sack of an abuser instead?

JessiCake · 19/02/2017 20:03

Ugh sorry, strike out fail, that was meant to read lying fake news media

Roussette · 19/02/2017 20:03

But woman everything I read says that it's going to be impossible to open all the mines again... it says he'll need a time machine to do that as natural gas has taken hold.

I'm prepared to be corrected, I know little about it!
