Interesting comment from Mattis. My brother is retired military; he says that while you won't find too many lefty Democrats in the services, there is a strong culture of adherence to the Constitution and to the notion that the military is there to protect the nation from outside threats, as opposed to meddling in internal national affairs.

cozietoesie · 19/02/2017 16:45

That's reassuring, Across. I was thinking of you and yours - and others - when reading the reports that were coming in.

Lweji · 19/02/2017 16:45

In the last few weeks Mattis seems to have held his own and not a part of the mad crowd surrounding Trump, regardless of previous misgivings about him.

That Colbert Press Conference sketch was comedy then, but we've been watching real cases now. Shutting people down, keeping the sound down on questions, ignoring questions, and so on.

cozietoesie · 19/02/2017 16:46

Indeed.

Me, too Across. Hoping that all is well with you and yours.

This is great.. just catching up on my Fortean Times and turned to this page.

In brief - it's not saying he is a genuine alien from outer space but more he is the physical embodiment of what UFO's symbolise. Namely, "terrors unleashed by the disintegration of a society that has lost its confidence in its ideals."

Whitley Strieber has said that the "coming of the UFO means the curtain to the temple has been rent, and culture is about to undergo profound change."

Substitute 'Trump' for 'UFO' and you're not a million miles off the mark Grin

Politifact's measurement of Trump's lies so far - 4% truth.

At least Mattis has read some books. Apparently he had (still has?) a huge personal library. I'm sure I read somewhere he is also a firm supporter of the 2 state solution to the Isreal Palestine crises.

Donald Trump hasn't filled 94 per cent of federal positions a month into his presidency

It seems it's not due to delays, but simply that he has not nominated people for these roles.

They're all holding emergency talks to come up with a credible explanation.

Yes, I think that Mattis qualifies as a bona fide intellectual. Let's just hope that he is able to last in this administration because I do think he might be a moderating influence.

CussingQuim · 19/02/2017 17:41

Someone on twitter said he just misheard/mispronounced Sehwan, does that sound likely?
