Is he actually real? Does he talk a fake language? Can he actually play the fiddle? Why do his women orchestra players wear such extraordinary frocks? What century is he in? What country?

Yeah I might just have to. Got a "bonus" as a once off freelance job so might price him up if he comes back to the uk

MommaGee · 14/02/2017 17:01

£150!!!!!

MommaGee · 14/02/2017 17:13

Before booking fees????? I don't love him £200's worth!

annielouise · 14/02/2017 17:29

Mommagee that little boy's face was wonderful. Andre Rieu seems to give a good show. I dismissed him before but I might listen now. As you say he's made classical music more popular for the masses, which shouldn't be sneered on.

Lehinch · 14/02/2017 17:34

His whole set-up with the disney princess dresses is weird Confused . And his violin playing is awful!

MommaGee · 14/02/2017 17:39

The Best Of Andre Rieu [HD Videos]:

Ok sp perhaps you're classically trained and better able to critique but what's wrong with this?

Also the dresses are AMAZING!!

Terramirabilis · 14/02/2017 17:45

The Spectator on the Rieu phenomenon. The one where he talks about "special ladies."

I haven't read the full thread but I took my DM to see him at Christmas expecting to hate it and I really loved it. I had tears in my eyes at the music all through the evening. I think he takes away some of the snobbery and pomp associated with classical music and has such passion and energy he deserves to be successful.

Chippednailvarnishing · 14/02/2017 17:56

Rieu isn't a phenomenon, he's a cult.

Like Scientology and David Koresh, but slightly less easy on the ear Grin

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 14/02/2017 18:12

just had a look on you tube and watched a video of Sir Anthony Hopkins completely entranced at one of his shows while Andre plays something especially for him Grin

I have to go out this down to his great acting skills Star

Chippednailvarnishing · 14/02/2017 18:19

His eyes are screaming help me Grin

Andre Rieu
EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 14/02/2017 19:05

Poor Sir Anthony Sad

puppetpoppet · 14/02/2017 19:08

I don't know what you saw on YouTube, but Anthony Hopkins actually composed a piece of music which Andre Rieu performed and recorded!

TheLegendOfBeans · 14/02/2017 19:12

This thread is killing me - my DH is convinced Andre is following us round Europe as every time we end up in Holland/Austria/insert anywhere here THERE HE IS - having a concert Grin

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 14/02/2017 19:26

Oh that's why he was looking so ecstatic

TheLegendOfBeans · 14/02/2017 19:30

Also: we're moving to Holland so we'll never escape him now

I'd love to see him live, and I'm 43. I also love the dresses and wish I had one! Grin

MommaGee · 14/02/2017 19:57

He's touring npw / March

bertsdinner · 14/02/2017 20:12

My mum and stepdad love him, stepdad always puts on an Andre Rieu dvd at Christmas. Its not my cup of tea but I dont mind him, and he does put on a good show.
My young nephew is a big fan, too. He got into music ( plays violin and piano) because of Andre Rieu.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 14/02/2017 20:30

Aww love Sir Anthony Hopkins he is looking like a grandad now Smile

BeaLola · 14/02/2017 20:40

My Dad who is 85 loves him. He tends to call me up and remind me when a concert is just about to start on Sky Arts as if I am waiting to watch another one And after its finished calls me to talk me through it all. I have heard the Anthony Hopkins story several times .....

Iflyaway · 14/02/2017 20:43

Does he talk a fake language?

No. It's Dutch.

Bye Bye Brexit. Grin

TheLegendOfBeans · 14/02/2017 20:52

"Dutch is a fake language" sounds like something Donald Trump would say Grin

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 14/02/2017 21:09

I'd never heard of him till my cousin and sister (both 70s, both from Australia) waxed lyrical about him, his amazing shows and sets. Me and dh were just "whaaaat?" Personally, with the amount of airtime he gets on sky arts I think he knows some seriously weird shit about Murdoch.
