Is he actually real? Does he talk a fake language? Can he actually play the fiddle? Why do his women orchestra players wear such extraordinary frocks? What century is he in? What country?

I know a 15 year old boy who loves him. He genuinely thinks he's a wonderful entertainer and has been to see him live more than once Grin

I completely understand the op's confusion. It's a bit like the music hall TV shows they used to put on in the 1970s; you know it isn't really the olden days, but it's impossible to fathom how it could be made in modern times and look so like it's from them days, but not. I'm sure I saw him back in the 1980s on TV in a foreign hotel room at 3am, and it was all exactly the same as it is when I've flicked past his recent show on Sky Arts. Yet he's still in the 1880s Confused

My Mum's friends travelled from deepest Devon to Brussels on a coach to see him. I was a tad concerned as I thougth she was going to suggest I had them over and offered them tea and biscuits, as I am just outside Brussels!

Could you imagine how much money you'd make selling tickets for a Daniel O'Donnell and Andre Rieu concert combo...

ShatnersBassoon · 13/02/2017 22:22

Or 'Andre Rieu Fiddles With Cliff'.

CMOTDibbler · 13/02/2017 22:22

My 80 year old dad loves him. My 75 year old mum used to totally hate him, but her dementia is now bad enough that its the only thing she'll watch.

But as it gives them pleasure, AR can be as weird as he likes Smile

FIL 70 drones on about his greatness

MrsToddsShortcut · 13/02/2017 22:51

He did not exist. He simply did not reside in the same universe as me. And then, during an episode of Neighbours, Paul Robinson proposed to his girlfriend Rebecca by paying Andre Rieu to play an inpromptu 'gig' (or Jig) as my mum insists on pronouncing it) in the middle of Ramsay Street.

And then, he was everywhere. It was as though Ramsay Street had acted as some weird portal to the Andreverse and he skipped through. And now he has taken over. I swear, prior to Neighbours, I had never heard of him!

CotswoldStrife · 13/02/2017 22:59

I first heard of him years ago when someone described his orchestra as the one with the Disney dresses . He has a Strad worth millions allegedly, but is not one for the purists as he plays excerpts of music (he describes it as the interesting bits, I think!) rather than the whole piece.

I read an article recently, and yes that also said that the orchestra is devoted to him and that he pays for those dresses!

CotswoldStrife · 13/02/2017 23:00

Forgot to say - the concerts I've seen on TV seem OK, they sometimes do have elements in that are unexpected though!

Crumblevision · 13/02/2017 23:01

I would 😂. Bet he is absolute filth.

nurseblonde · 13/02/2017 23:03

My Nan in law LOVES him and goes to every concert. I find it hilarious! Every Nan loves him!

Sweets101 · 13/02/2017 23:03

He looks like the bad guy from Ghostbusters 2

Haha! I knew I recognised him. Have YouTube'd him. Am loving it bit pissed

TheFrenchLieutenantsMonkey · 13/02/2017 23:09

He's like a human Zebedee off The Magic Roundabout...he just 'boings' everywhere!!

Wait, what? Stefan Dennis conjured him up? I feel like the earth has changed direction.

crazypenguinlady · 13/02/2017 23:14

My Gran who's in her late 80s utterly adores him. She has all the DVDs and CDs, and a few books. She even stays up until early hours of the morning watching him yet again on repeat. I love to tease her about him (she is very witty herself though so all good). It reminds me of someone with an all consuming teenage crush 😂

muhajaba · 13/02/2017 23:23

My Grandma loves him too, if you go round her house when she's watching a show she gets really grumpy because the pause buttons broken

MyWhatICallNameChange · 13/02/2017 23:25

I do not really know anything about Andre Rieu except my kids violin teacher played in his orchestra, so I guess he must be real. Or she's made him up too. I wonder if she's met Stefan Dennis?

TizzyDongue · 13/02/2017 23:26

He's not actually in our dimension, Sky Arts is actually a worm hole and watching it at certain times leads you into a parallel universe that's made up of our past (80s mostly). The dresses are all sourced from student university balls in 1984

Could you imagine how much money you'd make selling tickets for a Daniel O'Donnell and Andre Rieu concert combo...

Not sure that'd be safe. I can see riot police being deployed: possible armed response.

TizzyDongue · 13/02/2017 23:29

muhajaba its possible her pause button is broken as she used it too much when pausing to think Bad Thoughts about Andre's lovely flowing love locks (like a galloping pony's mane)

muhajaba · 13/02/2017 23:47

Tizzy I just woke my husband up laughing - yes I think you're right Grin

NarkyMcDinkyChops · 13/02/2017 23:52

I've just read this whole thing completely bemused....until I realised I had mixed up Andre Rieu and Andrea Bocelli somehow.

Confused Grin Gin
