Is he actually real? Does he talk a fake language? Can he actually play the fiddle? Why do his women orchestra players wear such extraordinary frocks? What century is he in? What country?

I'm 30 and love him (not as in fancy the pants of him - as in love the music the gowns the whole escapism of it). Does that make me an old biddie then? Confused hate using that word.

Personal taste and all that.

As you were Mumsnet

Chippednailvarnishing · 13/02/2017 23:58

He reminds me of Michael Flatley.

And that isn't a complement.

Chippednailvarnishing · 13/02/2017 23:59

Compliment even!

AwaywiththePixies27 · 14/02/2017 00:06

For clarity, I meant the good chocolate biscuits with your cuppas not the infamous Mumsnet ones.

He appears to be a good egg. He cancelled a whole show last year when one of his musicians fell ill.

TisMeTheLadFromTheBar · 14/02/2017 00:09

Apparently, his violin is insured for over a million and he is minted so he can be as odd as he wants! I really enjoy his At home for Christmas show. At least you get value for money for his shows. Most musicians are lip syncing nowadays so you are literally paying a lot of money to watch them mime to a cd

MrsToddsShortcut · 14/02/2017 00:09

I suspect Flatley of travelling through the same portal.

TisMeTheLadFromTheBar · 14/02/2017 00:12

Away He cancelled last year because he got ill himself. He got a very bad virus and it nearly killed him. He is very dedicated to his music. I watched a documentary about him a while ago.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 14/02/2017 00:31

It was one of his musicians that had a heart attack. Although he easily could have also been unwell himself yes.

MommaGee · 14/02/2017 00:56

Jelous of all those who have seen him!!! Hes awesome and his musicians make me want to learn to play the violin so I can have a new frock for every show too!!

I'm poor so I make do with seeing him at the cinema LiveArt things or on the telly.

On one a couple who'd just got married came and had front row seats and he sang to them. I cried a little cos I'm mushy and a little cos I was jealous.

I'm 35, its very cool to like him so there!!

ellenanora5 · 14/02/2017 00:57

By the way I just presumed that Andre was someone I was supposed to know all about but I wasn't listening that day, like Miriam's brother who married what's her name, up the road, remember her, first husband was a wastrel, thought he was all that, you do, they had a cat, of course you do it was black and white......and so on

MommaGee · 14/02/2017 00:58

MommaGee · 14/02/2017 01:17

AwaywiththePixies27 · 14/02/2017 07:47

MommaGee have you seen the one where he invites the young girl up on to the stage? I think she plays the flute and is brilliant.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 14/02/2017 07:52

I think this is it. m.youtube.com/watch?v=253aGgk7NSE

DianaMemorialJam · 14/02/2017 07:56

I'm 23 and I think he's great Blush

MommaGee · 14/02/2017 11:01

Missed that one. I'd love to go see hom live outdoors. Will watch now

EverdeRose · 14/02/2017 11:07

I was dragged along to a concert of his a year or two ago by an older relative, It was amazing.Everyone was dancing and singing along.
I fell in love with him that night and have tickets for when he's next my area.

WiltingTulip · 14/02/2017 11:24

I made my D.C.'s watch one of his shows on tv because they both play strings and I hoped it would inspire them.

They said it was "pretty good" but only watched 15 minutes.

My parents (mid 60s) love him and have seen him live, I'm not sure how I feel about him but the crowd seems to have fun so I may go next time 🤔

Werkzallhourz · 14/02/2017 11:38

I took my 86 year old gran to see him one Christmas a few years ago. She absolutely loved it. The orchestra played some wartime classics and she sang along.

And he does put on a great show. It is really entertaining, particularly after a few glasses of wine. Grin There's a lot of audience engagement, and a really fun, party atmosphere.

I think the reason why he is so successful is because his shows are so culturally accessible. What he has done is take the ethos of the Last Night of the Proms and turned it into a series of concerts where the audience is bound to know and love at least a few of the pieces.

I think he's making the world a better place. It was lovely to see my gran's face after the concert; she was so thrilled by it all.

MommaGee · 14/02/2017 11:41

I think the show aspect is what it is. He could stand up there and play to the same standard but in a very traditional detached sense and he'd be nowhere near as popular. I also want tp go tp last night of the proms

AwaywiththePixies27 · 14/02/2017 16:53

Aww. MommaGee isn't that little boy adorable bless him? Very good too!

If you can go, go. A dear friend of mine saved up to see him and she loved every minute. A tad expensive yes but worth every penny apparently. Her favourite memory from the evening was when everyone got up and started dancing in the aisles to the music. Including her and her friend Smile
