To think this petition is not ok

Just that really - a man convicted of possessing indecent images of children has returned from prison and gone back to live at his parent's house. The locals have got hold of this information and have now set up a petition to get him 'rehomed' somewhere with no children. Outer Hebrides?
My view is he's done his time, he wants a fresh start, as long as he keeps himself to himself then just let him be? This petition doesn't sit well with me at all.

How would you feel if you found out he had been around your children earlier in the day? There's no way of asking that isn't inflammatory but that's what people are bridling at.

Yanbu. It's not realistic. We have one on our local estate - though he hasn't spent any time inside as he got a suspended sentence. His defence given was absolutely disgusting. We all know where he lives and can't do anything.

It's a petition, if people wish to sign it they are within their rights to do so.

I disagree. You don't stop being a pedophile or a rapist when you get out of prison. There is something deeply wrong with you and you need to be monitored and kept away from vunurable people.

But you know that and this post is a wind up, surely. Why waste your time worrying about him, there's plenty more pressing issues to worry about.

I have no sympathy for these people I don't care if the petitions unfair, he's done his time... Whatever. I would be furious if he lived near my kids.

Regarding paedophiles or young child pornogrophy, there is no such thing as, " he has done his time, " it's not like burglary, paedophiles will never reform and will always reoffend

Do his parents live next to a school or something?

Where you he possibly live, that doesn't have any children nearby?

Agree with PP - you don't stop being a paedophile once sentence is done. However, they have to love somewhere. It's a tough one.

Actually, I think these petitions serve a purpose.

Will they do anything in terms of him being rehomed? No.

But perhaps it helps people helplessly scared feel like they can take an action, however small.

And perhaps, if he gets wind of this petition, he will know with absolute certainty that he is unwelcome, unwanted, and a blight on decent society.

That's not a bad thing. We cannot become more accepting or tolerant of child abusers. Not with any sort of strand of decency in us.

My view is he's done his time, he wants a fresh start, he is a paedophile. I don't think they can just 'do their time' and then come out and live a normal life Confused he is still a fucking dirty paedophile.

There was a man in the US, I can't remember the exact details, but he had paedophilic desires. He begged and begged the state to commit him to a secure mental health unit as he didn't want to feel the way he did and wanted to receive help, he had younger siblings and was disgusted with himself. In the end he was committed, although he had to battle for it.

Anyway, one of the things I do remember clearly about his case is that he said there is no such thing as a reformed paedophile, and that the desires can be controlled but never erased completely.

The petition serves another purpose too, it let's him know he's being watched and that people are aware.

Well, that's a pretty vile statement.

So, the people who object will be responsible when he rapes/abuses a child again? Nice.

The ONLY one responsible for the actions of this man, is this man.

YABU. I agree with Spider Leggit and Mags he hasn't " done his time" and therefore is now a decent person ,he's a sick fucking degenerate , a danger to children and always will be. I suggest you save your sympathy for his victims .

As for "It doesn't sit well with you" Well paedophiles don't sit well with decent people. With any luck he will disappear and cease to breathe.

It depends on if his Parents fully understand what they are dealing with.

I've always thought that the people who house them should have restrictions put upon them, in regards to contact with children.

Sometimes if you put their name into a system, it comes up"connected to a person who is a danger to children", but I don't think that goes far enough, tbh.

Further psychological work, after the time served, better monitoring and also work with the family (Parents/Siblings), so they can help to prevent re-offending, if the offender is housed, or in regular contact with them.

That way grooming/assault etc via a family connection is prevented.
