The video linked to on this tweet is An interview with Congressman Sean Duffy - basically he believes Quebec, Charleston etc. were carried out by individuals acting alone, but Muslim terrorism is always organised.

Good point Pausing :(

MercyMyJewels · 07/02/2017 18:59

Anyone interested in a thread about who is in the Cabinet? Backgrounds etc

Perhaps we need a new topic...

merrymouse · 07/02/2017 19:05

I agree that Trump supporters won't care.

However, how much support did Hilary lose because democrats just weren't energised enough to make sure that not just they, but everyone they knew voted? How many people didn't bother to vote because they though it was six of one and half a dozen of the other? How many voted for a third party?

Is it more important to convert Trump supporters or to encourage the opposition?

merrymouse · 07/02/2017 19:08

Hillary with double l!!!!!!!! Aargh!!!!!!

To encourage the undecided, merry. I can only hope that we reach, as a world, the point where that matters.

I did that puzzle ami and yeah, I automatically assumed it was something else

Feeling proud of myself now - I assumed the same, but thought I better check it first with the 'wrong' answers and realised my mistake. Am I qualified to be President now? Grin

woman, yes, of course - it's a public video anyway!

cozietoesie · 07/02/2017 19:26

'Slowed it down by a day or two', Ginger. That may not be wholehearted back-tracking, I fear.

saffronwblue · 07/02/2017 19:27

Moving so fast as always. A few points from an Australian perspective - the Lindt cafe siege was huge, wall -to -wall repeating for days followed by an inquest and enquiry into the police response.
We are sending our army chief to Washington to ask Donald to take the refugees.
Feel sick about Devos - this may cause lasting damage into the next generations.

Using this doubling down rhetoric is exactly the problem with the Labour party, there is no self reflection as to "why" people voted for trump over clinton, internal polls showed that she was losing the rust belt and yet they thought they could just ignore it.

This underlying theory that if more people voted would have made the Dems win is exactly the same rhetoric that engulfed Labour at the last GE, no self reflection what so ever, the presumption that all the non voters would vote the way you presume is ignorant.

BaggypantsCrimplesnitch · 07/02/2017 19:29

Cussing, it's headed "Uh-oh - does Donald Trump know how to read?" Smile

GingerIvy · 07/02/2017 19:35

cozie I was surprise by the video in which he says to Congress members that actually, no, they have no intention of adding any more countries to it. Of course not - it would interfere with Trump's businesses - but they won't say that!!

GingerIvy · 07/02/2017 19:37

Is there some type of irony that it could be Germany leading a fight against American nazi-ism?

merrymouse · 07/02/2017 19:50

Only about 55% of people voted in the last US elections. True floating voters are increasingly rare. You don't have to assume that all non voters will vote a particular way to realise that sometimes elections can be won simply by getting out the vote.

Populists are good at energising their supporters. No populists ran for election in the UK in 2015.

Clinton did take the rust belt for granted, however she lost because of people who stayed at home or voted for third parties, not because of Trump's power to flip voters.

That depends as "nazi-ism" has become all encompassing to even include a cartoon frog.

Also a recent study kind of suggests its not

Im still waiting for your "balanced" posts....

PausingFlatly · 07/02/2017 19:53

Yep, merrymouse. It's one of the defining features of Othering, that members of one's own group (whatever one feels that is) do things for individual reasons.

Members of the Other group do things because they are Other.

It's a simple as John prangs his car because he's John and bad at corners; Jane prangs her car because she's a Woman Driver.

Guess what. I don't HAVE to post balanced posts. I post what I want. If you want to counter with other side posts, feel free. I don't care. But don't dictate to me what I can and cannot post. I'm tired of you sniping at me.
