MOstly It's no more difficult to spell the truth as it is to spell lies. I cut him no slack on what he tweets. As far as the paperwork released to the public - we all know HE's not typing it, so I expect proper spelling. Surely they're not all dyslexic in the WH??? (And before anyone thinks I'm dissing dyslexia, I have a child with severe dyslexia)

Ginger - I think we are on the same side. I did say the problem was him not owning it (if indeed that is the problem) and saying "okay so I need to work on getting my information by having people read to me, rather than winging it based on last night's Fox TV". There is no excuse for not doing this.

You can only beat lies with evidence.

If someone says you didn't do something, you show them you did.

If someone still says it's not true, they are gaslighting you. We know what gaslighting means.

And if they use 1 bit of evidence to make a claim, then they should be prepared to listen to other bits of evidence that counter that claim.

Human beings are very good at finding evidence that supports their beliefs and really struggle to find and look for evidence that goes against it.

MOstly No, I agree with you. I'm just fucking steaming over DeVos at the moment, sorry. She quite happily stood there and said she thought it should be left to states to decide whether to follow the federal law about children with disabilities having a right to a suitable education. She's also right up there with Pence on the LGBT children - they need to be "cured." And not in a nice way. It boggles the mind.

I didn't say reading was a prerequisite for intelligence and would never think that hedgehog. I said surely it's a prerequisite for being able to be a president, and I still feel that way.

(Maybe that's really judgmental and disablist of me, and if so I'm genuinely sorry. Maybe I wouldn't feel that way if it were coupled with more obvious intelligence in other ways, or clear admission and obvious ways of tackling it.)

It's important because intelligence personnel fall for this. Find the evidence that helps and ignore / don't test for alternate hypotheses.

History tells us that can make massive fuck ups. I fear Trump would fuck up because he wants to believe.

I suspect that 'under-reported' or 'not reported', or the vague accusations of media conspiracy theories to cover up the overwhelming scourge of terrorist attaks (sic) just means 'Donnie fell asleep and missed the 24 hour rolling news for those three days'. But to be fair, American news is, um, known to completely ignore anything that doesn't happen in the good ol' US of A. That's not the same thing as accusing the entire european media of a cover-up though. It will be interesting if it does cause the US reporting to develop a slightly wider outlook...
On the reading thing, I said at the beginning of last week that he was really struggling to read the autocue, and wondered whether there were issues with his reading ability. It didn't seem as though it was an unfamiliarity issue, more that he was just struggling with the actual words. I notice it more as I am teaching this semester, and am surprised by the number of (university) students who struggle to read out loud in class. Agree with others that this is not linked to lack of intelligence or suitability for the task (I mean, how great would it be to have a world leader who was absolutely open with a learning difference like this, and what a fantastic opportunity to build confidence in young people and make huge (yuge?) headway with research and support?) Admittedly, it's not much of an opportunity in this case, (gah) but it could be in another.

There'll be guns in schools before the year is out, I reckon. She was very pro-guns in schools. Because, you know, grizzlies.

So disheartening.
