Oddly i do not feel comforted by that....

GingerIvy · 06/02/2017 22:29

Every time I see the news articles about them struggling with the lights at the White House, I think of Joe Biden and laugh. All those memes of him and Obama. You could just see one of him messing with them, with Obama nearby saying, "Now Joe...." Grin

Badders sorry...

GingerIvy · 06/02/2017 22:31

Those of you considering a move to Canada, take note... Grin

Badders

I'm sure I remember reading somewhere the advice some old time politician gave about foreign affairs to an aspirant of some sort. (I persist in thinking it was Palmerston except I don't think it was.)

It ended with a final '.....and never get involved in Afghanistan'. Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/02/2017 22:33

I want to know a) where my pay is for my protest attendance and b) why trump couldn't afford more people at the pro trump rally yesterday.

merrymouse · 06/02/2017 22:33

How long is Obama's holiday?

I think he is going to find it very difficult not to be pulled into things once he is back in Washington.

GingerIvy · 06/02/2017 22:35

merrymouse probably why he is laying low. Would YOU want to be dragged into it if you were him?

amispartacus · 06/02/2017 22:35

Well, that will help things

The US abstained on a recent UN resolution. The White House seemed opposed to MORE settlement building.

amispartacus · 06/02/2017 22:37

And a different perspective

www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/02/israel-approves-controversial-settlement-expansion-bill-170206184729444.html

Israel has passed a controversial bill retroactively legalising thousands of settler homes built on privately owned Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank, drawing widespread anger by Palestinian leaders and rights groups.

The Israeli Knesset late on Monday voted 60 to 52 to approve the contentious bill despite warnings by the government's own top lawyer who had previously called it unconstitutional.

Minutes after the vote, The Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) slammed the new law as a means to "legalise theft" of Palestinian land.

Angry Spice was asked about it in a press briefing last week. I'll have to check his tie to see which one.

The White House is going to provide a list of unreported terror attacks to media to back up Trump’s claim, @PressSec says (via pool)

Apparently they're going to be releasing a list of things. I'll see if I can find something I can copy/paste, as I'm far too lazy to type that up.

Badders123 · 06/02/2017 22:41

I'm not sure God would have much to do with trump Tbh
I think he would think he was a dick (in my view God swears a lot - he'd have to, wouldn't he?)

I got this - if someone who attacks someone and they are Muslim, then it is a terror attack.

All attacks involving Muslims are terror attacks. That's the theory...

klassy
I don't know a HUGE amount, but none of that is terribly surprising to me - I'd been assuming he had a lot of bots following him & that it was likely a lot of them would be generated from abroad: in countries where he is popular &/or places where people might seek to exploit his fanbase via scams. Am surprised by just how high the numbers are though. I'd be very surprised if Trump - or someone working for him, at least - hadn't paid for some of them himself.

Am afraid I don't know about the practical side of creating & running them though. It's times like this I miss College & being able to find Someone Who'll Know with a trip to the Buttery. Admittedly I got more knowledge than I did food over the three years (slight issue with their woeful inability to cope with the concept of a vegetarian who couldn't have dairy products... I saw some quite incredible... foodthings... in my time... kept everyone entertained, anyway, guessing what I might be presented with next. Less entertaining was the time they gave me something with milk in, mind you... but I digress... However, my point, to return to our sheep: oh, for a helpful CompSci...) but as trade-offs go, fully worth it. And I had my Forbidden Toaster as well as fruit & cereal etc so I didn't starve. (I know, total rebel, me. I held illegal parties, too. A "party" being 6+ people [including the occupant of the room] congregating in a room in College without permission from College for said gathering. Played oboe AND flute outside music hours in first year [by arrangement with my neighbours, though, am not a monster]. I think I showered outside hours a couple of times. Once I had the temerity to go to housekeeping & ask for a new lightbulb without taking the old one with me, I was that much of a crazy rebel. Obviously I was, quite correctly, treated as if I were the head of the international lightbulb-smuggling cartel that threatens to bring all civilisation to its knees - but was granted a lightbulb nonetheless, with the instruction I must change it IMMEDIATELY & return to them with the dead bulb AT ONCE: with a stern reminder they had my name and room number and I could expect a fine for failure to comply... there was a bloke from maintenance in the office at the same time & on my escaping with my bulb he made a speedy exit because he couldn't hold his laughter in any longer...)

My College were well-represented at the Cambridge protest last week apparently. It's flying the Pride flag for LGBT month that got them abuse from a[t least one] Trump supporter on social media though. A real one, not a bot, sadly...

From pool:

WH Press Sec gaggled for less than 10 minutes on the flight back to DC.
Highlights:

On POTUS assertation of unreported terror attacks : "We'll provide a list later. There's several instances - There's a lot of instances that have occurred where I don't think they've gotten the coverage it deserved."

On travel ban EO: "We're not rethinking our strategy at all...What we're discussing now has nothing to do with the merits of the order....This is just purely on the injunction that the judge issues. And I think we're going to make that case tonight."

"Absolutely not" thinking about withdrawing the order.

On whether there is evidence of jihadis "pouring" into the country: "I'm not going to get into specific information that the president has."

On if terror attacks weren't reported or underreported: "Under reported."
