Actually, when we post polls, we tend to post more than one. It's interesting to see the variety of responses. Your point?

GingerIvy · 06/02/2017 19:27

It's like he's Sally Field, holding that Oscar, crying "You like me, you really really like me!" Except she was sincere.....

amispartacus · 06/02/2017 19:27

Again, this self bias is astounding, no one takes the Express seriously, absolutely no one, until it seems that it can be used as a yard stick of public opinion to bash

The Express poll was taken as an example of manipulation and spin.

Any poll needs to be checked carefully - who was asked, how were they chosen, what were they asked.

That's why critical thinking is so important - open, honest and transparent facts.

You see it ALL the time on MN - people quoting data, facts and statistics repeatedly - but you need to go to the source.

Totally agree, but MN seems to take some polls at face value when the narrative suits... hence the outcry on here regarding the last GE and Brexit

It was used as an example of how the media can manipulate people - why do YOU think the Express used that headline?

PausingFlatly · 06/02/2017 19:29

Um, are people now going in circles agreeing with each other?

That way paralysis lies...

Destinysdaughter · 06/02/2017 19:30

Are pp going to watch the program about Fake News on C4 tonight? Will be interesting!

amispartacus · 06/02/2017 19:31

otally agree, but MN seems to take some polls at face value when the narrative suits... hence the outcry on here regarding the last GE and Brexit

Of course people do - there should be no outcry.

But you would agree that inaccurate use of polls can be dangerous? Such as the Muslim example - which the Sun and the Daily Mail apologised for - but by then, the idea was out.

Looks like the USA is off to war....

We are not "MN". We are individuals. We've been tossing a lot of information around, looking at whether or not it may be valid, and trying to keep a pretty even keel here. I hardly think it's fair to add up the entire population of MN together and blame us for your maths in that regard.

I think you'll find that there are some of us on either side of the brexit issue here. We've discussed it (threads ago) and agreed to disagree and not get into a huge debate about it, as we didn't want to derail the US discussion. We still don't want to derail things.

Russia demands apology from Fox News for Bill O'Reilly calling Putin a 'killer'

As Trump pretty much agreed with him (certainly didn't argue the point), why aren't they demanding an apology from Trump as well?

The USA is off to war and wants its Allies to join in - at least that's my interpretation.

Given Trump's attitude, I can't see that going down well in Parliament..

Actually, the single thing DT has said that I even halfway agree with is that all NATO members should pay their fair share.

Yes, but Obama said it too. Nothing new there.

However, those countries aren't the only ones to benefit from NATO membership. Their membership serves US strategic interests, or it has in the past.

GingerIvy · 06/02/2017 19:37

Have to agree ami

CaveMum · 06/02/2017 19:38

I'm heartened by the pots on The Independent's Facebook page, including this one:

"Dear People of Great Britain,

Like America, you don't need anyone to tell you of your greatness. You even have it in your name! This is the very reason why most of us in the USA, if we were to be in the Speaker of Parliament's shoes, would do the same. We wouldn't allow Opengroppenführer #POTUS45 to speak either.

There is one small request we would like to ask of you. Would you please be so kind as to keep him with you for the next four years? We ask you to please help us out with this one small favor. In exchange, we are willing to offer you Kansas as a small token of our appreciation.

Thank you ever so much!

Sane America"
