Interesting article destiny. I have been struggling to work out what Owen Jones' issue was. While I agree that the rape accusations are shocking I saw no evidence that the SWP had any larger part than usual in the protest. They were there, but just doing the standard handing out of stuff alongside a huge number of other groups. I also noticed this in the article:
"Of the ten member committee members in charge of Stand Up to Racism (whose president is Diane Abbott MP), only Weyman Bennett, is a member of the SWP."
So it sounds like even in the one group Jones is saying is a front for the SWP there is only a single SWP member on the board. Maybe he knows stuff we don't, but it doesn't seem all that convincing. I think this is an unhelpful over reaction from Jones and comes across a bit like he just wants his protests to be the most bigly and best protests ever.
I confess I have often found Owen Jones rather holier than though in the columns. He has a habit of rounding on people and groups he feels do not meet his exact standards of perfect leftness. So I may just be biased in my feelings about this issue.
