Surprised Trump hasn't tweeted about SNL yet...

Superbowl tonight plus an interview on Fox pre Superbowl..

Maybe just maybe this 'ban' and the tweets are the distraction from Wall Street?

Do a LOT of stuff and hope some stuff gets through#

Im just reading through some of the stuff linked by you lovely people and chucking out thoughts. Sorry if the original thing was posted a while ago. It is all moving so fast.

I was just reading the article on 'Why nobody cares the president is lying'. This paragraph attached made me think. It says the Trump gang feel confident that people will just passively consume the fact media. However, surely the rising numbers of people paying for and using MSM sites demonstrate that this may not be the case.

I wonder if when things are ambling along people are happy to just engage in the more outrageous media. It is sort of fun and interesting to get caught up in a good conspiracy theory and feel part of a subculture. However, now things are getting serious people are moving back to the MSM as when push comes to shove they trust them more for the big stuff.

BiglyBadgers · 05/02/2017 08:25

That should be 'fake media' not 'fact media'...

amispartacus · 05/02/2017 08:26

I wonder which right wing paper it will take to make Trump pause for thought....

The Mail, The Express, The Sun?

If the Express has a WTF moment, then Trump must have gone too far. I see Piers Morgan is still licking Trump's arse.

What does serious look like?

I think that when the economy fails, the trade deficit increases, inflation rises etc - people can see that in front of them. That's serious.

I wonder how concerned the average American is about Islamic terrorism or is it just something being stirred up to create a problem that is not a big concern.

Keeping people in fear. I am sure 1984 had a word for that.

(From the tweet by @NYCdisinterest that lalalolly linked above.)

From Fox – Bill O'Reilly's Super Bowl interview with President Trump:

BILL O'REILLY: Do you respect Putin?
PRESIDENT TRUMP: I do respect him but –
O'REILLY: Do you? Why?
TRUMP: Well, I respect a lot of people but that doesn't mean I'm going to get along with him. He's a leader of his country. I say it's better to get along with Russia than not. And if Russia helps us in the fight against ISIS, which is a major fight, and Islamic terrorism all over the world–that's a good thing. Will I get along with him? I have no idea.
O'REILLY: But he's a killer though. Putin's a killer.
TRUMP: There are a lot of killers. We've got a lot of killers. What do you think–our country's so innocent?

amispartacus · 05/02/2017 08:37

I see the Mail, of all the pictures of the march it could have used, decided to pick one saying Trump was a fat cunt. A woman and a daughter had that sign.

I am sure there were many signs to take pictures of - but they picked that one....you'd almost think they were trying to manipulate people and give others an excuse to belittle the marchers.

One thing for sure - there is a whole curriculum around Trump - maths, history, RE, politics, persuasiveness, psychology and manipulation.

Yes, I'm waiting for him to blast SNL.

I think it's more likely Angry Spice will be handed his P45 by Donny off the back of that sketch. He's become an object of ridicule. (For US posters, P45 is the form your employer gives you when you keave a job - needed for your tax affairs & to claim social security benefits.)

I know people have speculated before about Trump and the early stages of dementia. I was just thinking this morning about his rather narrow vocabulary and wondering if it could be a sign. This article looking at Agatha Christie suggests a drop in the vocabulary size and an increased repetition of phrases in her writing was a sign. I think we may look back a decade from now and wonder how he was allowed to become president.

Vanity fair and New York Times pull out of correspondents dinner.

They must know they will get stick for this, but must also know it will be a car crash that they don't have to attend.

There's not much the satirists can do though. He's his own worst imaginable version alive, and his supporters just don't care. I feel like he could literally do anything and would make it through.

I just don't know how to process it!

"The judge opens up our country to potential terrorists and others that do not have our best interests at heart. Bad people are very happy!"

If there is a real terrorist threat, presumably he is capable of closing all the airports and putting the country on high alert (or whatever the terminology is).

I agree that even Spitting Image would have trouble satirising Trump. It would just look like real life with puppets.

CaveMum · 05/02/2017 09:01

Has there been any more on the news that Bannon might need to vetted to sit on the NSC after all, or did that fall by the wayside?

I find the way Trump (likely advised by Bannon) has stopped the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and the Director of Intelligence from attending meetings except at his invitation is frightening.

Oh for a Nancy McNally or Admiral Fitzwallace!

GingerIvy · 05/02/2017 09:03

Expect Trump to do some particularly interesting tweets as their appeal was denied. Further court stuff going on over the next few days.

“We’ve taken a break from the dinner in the past,” Graydon Carter, the editor of Vanity Fair, wrote in an email, adding that he planned to spend the weekend fishing in Connecticut instead.

Mr. Carter, who has feuded with Mr. Trump for decades, was asked whether he had a particular reason for canceling this year’s festivities. “Trump,” Mr. Carter replied, “and the fish.”

Happened in 9/11. Lockdown of the USA. Planes turned round.

That was clearly too little too late, but security was massively improved, as well as monitoring and intelligence.

The point here is that there isn't much more that can be done to improve security.
It's all scaremongering tactics.
